Always appreciate your enthusiasm and energy and I always find your vids entertaining. I'm a 71 yo runner in rural Idaho and am very jealous of the Park Run scene in GB.
Cheers Reilly! Greetings from across the pond, I think it’s awesome that you found my videos in the first place, that you enjoy them is even better! Yeah, the parkrun scene is great here. It almost guarantees a constant, supportive community for anyone who wants to be part of it.
Thanks Paul! That’s awesome re. Kielder! The marathon weekend in October? I’m yet to run it but it looks like a great time. That weekend I’m running Glasgow to Edinburgh though!
Sounds great Reina! I quickly looked it up and found that it’s known as the world’s most beautiful marathon! I reckon it will have quite a few ‘look’ moments to say the least! Good luck!
Another fab video - thanks Al. In terms of things lal peppers are doing this year, I am retiring in April and am wending my way back to North Yorkshire from Dorset by a very devious route, about 500 miles - should be fab. From one of your (many) Catterpeppers.
Thanks Phil! As in you’re going to walk / run 500 miles over a period of time?! Welcome back to the North’ish though! Ha, I was pleased with ‘Caterpeppers’ when it popped into my head!
I'm going to run my first 50K and I'm 45 :) I love being able to try new things :) Thanks for all your fun videos, you have such a great presence! And the UK has so many amazing races, it definitely makes me jealous.
Thanks Carrie Ann and good luck with your 50k! What event is it? Yeah, new things and that spirit of adventure is a big thing for me! I’ve turned it up to 11 for 2024, it’s going to be a fun one!

Happy New Year. Really enjoyed your videos throughout 2023. I did my first marathon back in October so at some point I will have to scratch that Ultra itch. After watching your videos I reckon there are a couple that I could do. 😊
Happy new year Al, thanks for all the great content over 2023. Me and the wife just signed up for the Wall (3rd time) focus on big mileage and elevation incoming
Ah, just missed you! I was up in the North east visiting family at Christmas and did the ‘double dene’ on 23rd/25th. Surprisingly, Denton Dene had more elevation than Jesmond, but that last downhill is mental (and tough on the legs)!
Ha, the double Denton Dene, the DDD! Shame our paths didn’t cross, I need to check out Denton at some point soon. It’s a fast finish isn’t it. As it was my first time, I had no idea when to push!
Happy NY and happy running Al!Another great video. My running plans for 2024 are… to run my first ever marathon (London!) and run another one 5 weeks later 😮 (Edi). Wish me luck!
Happy new year to you too Andrea! Wow, you’re aiming high target wise! Awesome. I think 2024 might be the year I tackle a marathon too. Edinburgh could be an option actually.
Hi Al, I've got my 1st marathon in Sunny Gateshead in May and thought I may as well sign up for the Wild Deer Ultra in October. Hope to see you at a few other races around the North East too. HAPPY NEW YEAR mate!
@AlPepperRuns Its ran by Runthrough events. They usually do a 10k and half from Gateshead stadium, around Gateshead and Newcastle quayside. This year they've added the marathon aswell. 5th of May if you fancy it
Mint vid, thanks Al. That is one Brutal course! last time I did it it was full off puddles, and of course those hills! Makes Gateshead seem like a joy haha. My goal is to carry on the great momentum I set with my increased mileage and fitness in 2023, to try and get back to running similar times I used to pre-covid. So hopefully .... sub 25.30 5k sub 54 10k and I would love a new HM PB, currently 1.56.24, but that could be a stretch too far happy New year sir 🙂
Happy new year! Sounds like you had a great 2023 so you’ve just got to keep it up! Power through the cold start and by spring you’ll smash your targets! Keep me posted with how you get on!
Another great video! My goals are to try and improve my 10k time (current pb is 47:30), doing the Newcastle 10k in a few weeks which will be my first 10k race. Also want to improve my 5k/parkrun time - current best is 22:30 at Leazes. Doing the Ultra North 25k (searching for videos on that is how I found your channel!), which will be my first trail race and 2 half marathons (Edinburgh & GNR). Been running for about 18 months, after 20ish years of very little exercise and really have the bug now!
Thanks Dan! They’re some impressive PBs! Wow! I have the Newcastle 10k on my radar however haven’t signed up yet. I’ll no doubt do Ultra North though so will see you there if not before! Glad you found / enjoyed my video on it!
Happy new year Al. I’ve only got the 2 runs signed up for so far this year, Tyne bridges to boundaries 50km in march and having another crack at the Cowshed backyard ultra in April. Main goal this year is to crack the 100 mile distance at some point so keeping an eye out for an event to chalk that one off. Think Greener miles running may have a 24hr track event planned for July at Chester le street which I quite fancy. All the best mate 👊🏻
Happy new year! I’m doing Bridges to Boundaries but didn’t sign up to the Cowshed in time. I might try and pop along to spectate if I’m free though. A 100 miler is one of my goals, I’ve ran 110km but never got to the 100 mile mark. I haven’t heard of the Greener Miles track event but it sounds fun!
Looks like a few places have become available on the cowshed BYU if you’re interested. Tried to talk my brother into giving it a go but he’s not having it 👎🏻
@@IanMcalpine-ep9fc haha, I’ve just signed up to Manchester marathon which is the day after! Might be a busy week if I try and sneak an ultra in as well. I’m considering popping along to spectate for a bit though.

@@AlPepperRuns Bowland is new this year. The ultra scene is really picking up on this side of the Pennines. Fylde Coast Runners have got a handful of new ones too. I will be tackling their Kendal to Preston 50 in May and the Tower to Castle in September
Another great video Al, Now as I have just retired my hope this year is to break the 1 hour mark for 10K , did this back in 2017 , but due to life work balance etc , times have drifted away , so thats my goal , with a few races already booked up like the Snake lane 10 Miler(February) , and the Northallerton 10K (May) hope to catch you at one event this year Al , keep on blogging .
Cheers John and I wish you all the best with your retirement! Yeah, maintaining a ‘normal’ work / life balance can be tough, let alone adding any sort of consistent running routine into it. I haven’t heard of those races so will check them out and hopefully see you around!
If that works for you then that’s good to hear! I find that one size doesn’t necessarily fit all when it comes to personal experience though. Here’s to 2024 being entirely within that 80% ‘good’ bracket!
