I went to the new US Bank stadium. It's was so outrageous. Everything mentioned about the new raiders stadium describe the Viking stadium. I have no problem with these stadiums if there privately funded. The NFL thinks thier entitled to public funding.
@@lukebartlett5678 Actually, the Patriots are the only team in the NFL that can prove they are profitable for their city. When they moved from Boston to Foxboro in 1971, the town had only two rules: 1) No baseball; and 2) The Patriots had to add a surcharge to every ticket sold, and pay it to the town. Interestingly, Schaefer Stadium was privately funded: only $7 million, and it showed. It was both the best and the worst stadium in the NFL: excellent nightlines, perfect for watching football; but it was mostly cold aluminum benches, a dirt parking lot, and not enough restrooms.
Legit. The NFL owners were furious that Buffalo opted to renovate their stadium than push for a new facility several years ago, because other cities might start to balk at the huge price tags they have to pay. Nobody wants to be the one that took a step back. The same thing happened in Canada when BC Place was being renovated. They built a temporary stadium out of modular bleachers for the CFL and MLS teams, which actually looked pretty decent from a distance, but the other CFL and MLS teams were anxious for them to move out as soon as possible. They didn't want their cities to see what could be built for $14.4 million and wonder why they need to spend a couple hundred million themselves. (though they did have a point, because while it looked pretty neat, Empire Field was just an aluminum skeleton with tarps for walls. There was no real structure, or any facilities built in, and it wouldn't have lasted as a permanent structure)
That $5 billion price probably also includes building the entire neighborhood. You mentioned it at 10:54, but you probably need to elaborate on that part. A lot of the stadiums are including that in the total construction costs (adding malls, amusement parks, offices, condos, etc.)
That $55 million for the Metrodome didn't include air conditioning. The 1982 Twins played without air conditioning. It was nicknamed the swelterdome. They had it installed for the 1983 season.
First, go to stadiums like the L.A. Colisium or the Rose Bowl. They are relatively simple structures and thus cheaper to build. Modern stadiums are FAR more complex with far more amenities. Add-in heaps of Government and environmental regulations(and Luddite opposition) and the costs skyrocket.
Me and my buddies are laughing all the way to the bank, it’s crazy what people are willing to pay for these things. Works out well for the local Ironworkers and other tradesmen though.
That ad needs to be ran on tv, I’m glad I found this channel because I also have a stadium fetish, and the lawnmower 2.0 is one of my best purchases to date.
I was actually thinking about stadiums to myself today and was thinking it would be pretty nifty if someone built a stadium that did actually serve as hotel, and have connected to a shopping center.
Enjoyed the insight and commentary, amazing comparison costs. Apparently a good view doesn’t get it anymore, neither do simple scissors as opposed to the Manscape mania....hmmm scissors still work 😅 Thanks for the post 👍
My problem with this is that I see no reason why stadia should use public funding especially if the said team isn't going to pay rent on use of it. Sure it's great that your team gets a fancy new stadium, but why should the average person pay for it when these franchises are making millions if not billions a year? It's fucked up, in my eyes, that teams extort the city they are in for a new billion dollar stadium by threatening to move because they know how much pride them willing brings to a city. At least in Europe if a club wants a new stadium they use their own money, because that's what should happen, they also really don't pick up and move to another city (expect AFC Wimbledon/ MK Dons). I just feel like higher taxes for years to come to pay off a billion dollar expense that the city doesn't own doesn't make sense. Like half the time the city and team split the expense but it's still the team that makes money on gate receipts and any other events held in there that aren't related to sports, i.e. concerts. Now if you told me that Pittsburgh was building a $3 billion stadium for the Steelers and the team was paying a yearly lease on it until they own it and they don't make money on any non football event, I might be down. But honestly, I'm still paying for Hinez Field and PNC Park and PPG Paints Arena and I'll probably still be paying for them when each team inevitable gets a new stadium
"Millwrighting; whatever that is"(8:05)!!! HAHA, best slam in the whole video. Let me put it this way, if you need something to work, they make it work (the people who will read and understand a manual).
This is why for the World Cup in South Africa, the government knew that the stadium building costs would be astronomical and that after the events, the stadiums would mostly remain empty or unused. So what did they do? They had a few stadiums that were almost like pre fabricated, shipped, assembled, then disassembled afterwards and sold to another permanent location. They pretty much rented a stadium for a summer LOL
Started watching your videos about a month ago and I really really like the commercial you did for the manscape stuff. Thank you for all the great videos I too have a fetish with stadiums.
They Cost so much and most of these Football stadiums (with a few exceptions) are only used 10 to 15 times a year...not very good ratio of cost to use....for that cost the event numbers need to increase dramatically...
They really should simplify. They put crazy architectural designs, materials, and a lot of technology so that makes the cost expensive. Like 2020 Tokyo olympics original stadium was canceled.
The relatively modest Carrier Dome in Syracuse was built for $25.63 million in 1980, $80 million today, but replacing the air-supported roof with a rigid structure is cost $118 million. To build a new stadium would cost about 4 times as much, and that would be on the budget end.
Paid for largely by NY State the Carrier Dome has been a great investment to bring economic activity to Syracuse although college football is better played outdoors. That looked like the Checkerboard in St. Louis being torn Down, once hosted NCAA Basketball Finals, went to a college hockey game there in late 70s.

And all of the cost of those extra "bells and whistles" will be paid for in the first 5 years through marketing deals to sell advertising space and corporate level rentals of half of the luxury boxes. Every city will also agree to public funds, as the labor costs alone will funnel right back into the city's economy.. and thus boost local sale taxes if not local property taxes. It's become big money and major economic boosts for these cities, even if only for a 3-4 year term during construction and initial operation.
The vet did have a jail and a judge and court in session during game time for all the D&D's and fighting arrests made haha better than a marble floored luxury box
