This word has really lost all meaning. Not only is it an alternative to making someone look bad by calling someone is a 1930s German while not even knowing what it or Italian bundle of sticks are; it really is a pathetic defense for awful behavior. Like people using disabilities as a shield for being bad people. After seeing this behavior for 8+ years, it really is tiresome. Especially when this playbook stopped working a couple years ago.
@@strategicperson95 Yeah... I've been tired of this 20+ years, this was popular while I was in highschool. I came to the conclusion that I'm not an *ist or a *phobe, I just hade everyone equally.
True but if you bring negative publicity to a brand or product you work with the brand/product holder in question has a right to protect there IP. I am getting tired of the excuse from some that 'they don't have characters that represent them' when they do in fact they just typically aren't the MC which is all its about narcissism simple as.
If anybody ever talks about "authentic casting," just bring up Darth Vader and reboot Kratos. Two iconic, beloved roles which wouldn't have happened under that twisted standard. That should shut them up fast; especially since those are light-skinned roles played by dark-skinned actors, and the notion of stopping that would probably give them a heart attack.
@@117HaseoExactly. If they *really* want a character that "represents" them, they should make it themselves! Not steal from other IP's. But you know, evil can't create. Only twist and warp what is already there.

Fr. I posted a meme of someone where the context is “If blackwashing is okay for you, then whitewashing should be okay too.” And guess what, i got banned for 1 day from using twitter. Seriously, these people are insufferable.
No joke, I have seen someone justify blackwashing by saying that whitewashing is out of hate, and blackwashing is out of love. Fucking unbelievable. Let me make it clearer, the problem is not the hate or love thing. The problem is believing only one group is good and the other is bad. There are those who do things out of love and out of hate from both sides. I dont care if you change a character's skin colour or feature, just dont be a hypocrite.
Been noticing that for quite some time, so many white characters from books and comics are being black washed in live action adaptations but When it comes to black characters they must be portrayed properly on movies because it’s racist to white wash them, such hypocrisy
Same ppl who think Jan 6 was the worst day ever, but the several months of BLM riots that caused parts of Seattle Portland and Minneapolis to declare themselves "autonomous zones" was peaceful protesting
Makes no fucking sense.. How is blackwashing made out of love when you could draw them normally? Just seems like you can't relate to or like the character as is..
Ever since the VA community bullied Vic Micgnonga and never let him sue for defamation after the sexual allegation, I care very little about the VA community. Edit: gosh did not realise I would start a wholesome Reddit thread here😂
@_ninjas_in_paris_1 Basically The funi VA actors got rid of Vic using the metoo type of crap. And when he did take em to court they succeeded in stopping the case with an Anti-slapp motion, Before the case could get going. Had they failed, let's just say a huge number of em would have been ruined
I wouldn’t care if there were no such things as English voice actors for eastern content. Every piece of eastern entertainment including anime I always listen to the audio in the country of origin. The only games I think I’ve ever played in English dub is Final Fantasy 7 remake and rebirth. I remember years ago I tried to watch a Kdrama in English audio and it just sucks the soul right out of it. I tried playing stellar blade in English dub and my God it’s so inferior to the Korean.
Look at the situation where they want to force "Latinx" into Spanish language, despite the cultural connotations of using "x" in that manner! Culture? These people don't give a *damn* about culture! Respect? Respect is so foreign a concept to these jackasses, it's not even funny!

@Trueterterexcept in those cases the character stays mostly faithful and the shade is just a lighter shade of dark and isn't whitening them and isn't racially motivated but they get harassed on the other end of the spectrum their just turning the characters into a racial stereotype and giving the characters dreads and everything yet is somehow more ok then the ones having just a slightly lighter skin tone due to how the artist drew it ok man I just don't follow the logic on it personally I don't care artists can draw the character however they want at the end of the day it's just fan art but I hope you can see the irony in all this

Japanese VAs also have their own accounts in X, along with mangakas but when you look at their accounts. Most of the posts show work related tweets and retweets. Something like that happened on Tumblr years ago. A gentleman posted to 4Chan, "I'm pretty sure we could make Tumblr explode by just photoshopping Steven Universe to be white". People did, and Tumblr shit their non-denominational gender-neutral pantaloons so severely over the whole ordeal that even the creators of the show itself called them out on how badly they were overreacting to such a non-issue.
I miss *ACTUALLY* talented voice actors and dubbers like Steve Blum and Vic Micgnonga. I live under a rock so I don't know what happened but even I understand how the English voice acting industries have been slowly fading out people with actual stage/ film acting skills and knowledge.
Steve is still active as a VA. he's still voicing TOM, for Toonami on Adult Swim. He hasn't had any Anime roles since 2020 but he's active in western animation, video games, and apparently was involved in The Mandalorian in 2023, so he's still around.
There are a lot of good non celebrity voice actors for anime, they just get grouped up with these two idiots. We can't judge the majority the same as the minority. They don't do anything to the script they just speak from it.
Japan should hire the English VA directly in Japan (like fluent speakers or even foreigners) that go through Japanese VA Agencies and NOT hire outside Japan.
Can't we just use that AI that turned Milei's speech into English with accurate representation of his voice? And no, I'm not saying replace the original JP, CN or KR actor. I'm saying they can do their part in Japan, China or Korea and then get residuals from the use of the AI in other languages.
Eh, that Shin guy actually seems pretty racist on his own to be honest. Constantly disparaging how foreigners look in that thread, seems like he's just on the other side of the coin.

@MisterGreis oh no!! are you new here? Japanese are extremely ethnocentric which can be seen as racist. i mean the US did end 100k japanese people in a few seconds
Unfortunately I'm not seeing that working out with AI also on the table. Let's be honest especially with how long this mindsets been around; it's going to take decades to remove this victimhood mindset out of people. VA may actually be on a tremendous decline, especially if one rather use AI to recreate a retired/passed away VA on a character they already voiced over using a new VA. It only takes a few years to destroy a reputation what a couple decades built.
I like the idea of Bluesky. The Derilect Rate on Twitter rises 400%. Bluesky becomes one maximum-security prison for all of social media. A 50ft containment wall is erected. It completely surrounds the website. All external links are mined. Moderators, like an army, are encamped around the website. There is no moderation inside the prison: just the lefttards and the world they have made. The rules are simple: once you go in, you don't come out.
I mean, I don't think he'll be fired from his current role despite the uproar...but I hope now the Japanese studios will be made more aware of what the English localizing team and VA's are doing to their work and this might just end up speeding their career demise bcs of AI even further in the end tho...😂 Like, one of Japanese VA agency has already start experimenting using AI to translate Japanese VA's voice to English and other languages. Tho they said they're only doing it for GPS and stuff and not actual acting work, I still think that should've been the first warning sign to English VA's. And even tho there's a movement inside Japanese VA industry against unauthorized replication of their voice by AI, I do wonder once that technology has become more developed, if Japanese studio will eventually start negotiating with Japanese VA's for permission to use their voice to exclusively get translated to English with AI with compensation in contract, citing these problems with English localization team damaging their reputation as well as attempt to expand to bigger global market on their own without the middle man, will they be more accepting to agree to that term considered it doesn't really affect the Japanese VA's themselves (they still get to keep their job in Japanese) and they get paid extra for it? It'd honestly be funny if that'll eventually end up being what becomes of the future sparked by ppl getting fed up with English localizing team butchering anime, English VA acting entitled and disrespectfully to their work, combined with Japanese studio's strive to take out the middle man to reap more profit from the bigger market themselves. English localizing team and VA probably won't gonna be able to do anything about that if that really want end up happening either bcs Japan holds the right to not sell their license IP to them and since the English team hold no right to the work, they have no right to complain what the actual owner wants to do with it.😂 Just a fun thought...😂
As a artist myself, the fanart community has been getting really toxic. I don't care what people draw when its a fictional person and its not harming anyone, its when they are trying to push that idea as the right one and say everyone elses idea is trash that it becomes a problem, especially if they are trying to change the source material. The double standard too needs to be addressed as well because if you go one shade lighter or darker then you are considered racist no matter if it might be a lighting or style thing as well. But this isn't just a problem in the art community, its a problem in every part of the world now.
Exactly, they’ve made it so art isn’t fun anymore. You can’t share anything anymore publicly because all you get is bashed. This is what makes me miss when anime wasn’t cool at all, it was the opposite!
Yep. I love art, I stopped caring about the opinions of the 'art community' when they all started being communist PDF files. Ya know the whole "tumblr stereotype" was a thing and all.
Thats why i only interact with EU and JP art community, u post an art, they liked? You get a heart, they dont, you dont get a heart, simple as that, no fuss
i don't care what race a voice actor is, but what i do have a problem is double standards. either have it one way or another, but you have to stand by one rule. either it does not matter and anyone including white people can voice any character or you race lock the actors. making different rules for different races is just racist.
They always make the same argument. "When we do it, it's because out of love. When others do it, it's out of spite and hate". As if saying the JP artists who got attacked before for the lighter shade art was doing it out of hate. Even when they always apologized every time it happened (Really wish they never apologized).

A black American fan of marvel comics wrote a letter to Stan Lee saying he wanted to see more black people in comics. Stan Lee agreed with him and created the character Black Panther. Japanese studios have been willing to change things for their western audiences but those western audiences need to show respect for the work of the Japanese artists.
It's also Japan there are like less than 0.001% of black people living there, why include a character or write about a character 99.9% of Japanese people never interacted with or have even seen. Most animes settings are in Japan with Japanese characters acting Japanese where does a black character even fit in any of it lol. Someone made a video of white and Japanese liberals living in Japan, hadn't been back to the US in over a century commenting on the 2024 elections. A comment someone posted on that video resonates with this video said "Leftist Liberals have this weird obsession with a country like Japan which is mostly conservative" lol
As a person who works at/dreams of becoming a VA,this is really tiring. 1:01 here’s the thing; I don’t think we should be making characters lighter or darker *period.* but I’d be on the side of the artist because that same person most likely would not say the same about black washing a character
It's hilarious to see an absolute piece of rubbish (and I don't care if she's 16) being called an artist when all she does is trace other people's original art and makes it darker. Tracing is no art.
It's something to fight for. I've heard such things about the gaming industry before, and now the actual fans talk about gatekeeping, which is ludicrous, because the enemy is already inside and, us, actual fans and gamers, have been pushed out.
It's no surprise japanese audiences reacted like that. I'mma say something that might be slightly wrong, but I'm not as versed in Japanese culture as other people. In Japanese culture exists this idea that you don't master a craft until you die. Only at that point you have mastered your craft, as it means you poured your life into what you loved to do. To japanese artists, any criticism is a show that they are not good at what they do, this is the reason they always apologize and delete whatever other people criticize. But, in the same vein, taking their art and changing it entirely for no other reason than "I think it looks better like this" is the equivalent to spitting on their graves. Once again, in Japanese culture, wanting to become an artist means pouring your entire life into the craft, you'll never be an artist until you die doing what you love, as such, imagine how it must feel from their perspective to be told that their life's work means too little to be respected. The people who do this edits know little to nothing about the culture they're ripping apart from the characters, they don't know and don't care; of course Japan would soon or later snap.
Lets honestly not blame all english VAs. I've been trying to get into that job line for over 8 years now. and only indie companies will hire new people. anime dubbing companies only keep the same small list of people. and the only new people let in are those who are open with forcing their leftist views down everyones throat. I always dreamed of being a VA because I saw it was about bringing a character to life. and helping a story and world come into reality. now I've learned only small game and visual novel devs would ever work with someone who doesn't already have a name for themselves. it's just like all the horror stories of people trying to break into acting in hollywood. What japan needs to do. is go to smaller companies for dubbing. or put in the contracts for dubbing it that they can't make stupid changes to characters and the script. make more jobs and hire people to read over the dub script and make sure it's good.
English VA's constantly get in trouble. Like for the example the "tighnari" from Genshin Incident and VA's defended saying that "he was in a bad place". I think english VA's have realized for the sake of their careers. They shouldnt get involved with situations like this one to save their own skin
So the double standard is dumb. It is not a crime for people to draw something how they want. No matter what color they want to make them. People often draw characters in their skin tone to feel closer to the material. It is an innocent thing. Anyone who thinks that’s wrong needs to fucking go outside. No one should be getting mad over this stuff. The issue I have when artists change color out of racist intent saying they “fixed” the art. Twitter is not the real world, I think everyone would benefit from this platform not existing.
My problem is that the artist is basically just tracing a pre-existing art or screenshot from an anime and just lazily blackwashing them. That isn't really true fanart and it is a big problem that she tries to sell it too.. If all she ever does is blackwash screenshots then i find it very hard to not find it problematic or straight up disrespectful to the original creators work. Doesn't matter if she originally said it was edits, she should not be selling anything period.

Funny thing is that this sends Japan a message that black characters in their media will generate unnecessary drama from the west, to the point they'll likely avoid including any in the future. It's great.
4:57 If a dark skinned character have even a slight more light of their skin tone, these people gonna get pissed all over Twitter. When the scene is reversed, they told people to chill? Kinda BS isn't it?
English VAs are horrible people. They honestly think they’re on some kind of pedestal because they voice a popular character. Almost to the point that they’ll say they are that character. I’ve experienced firsthand how they seek out one off creators at conventions, take pictures of their stuff, and then give it to their parent company to sell. Simply because it looks to be popular with the convention goers. After seeing that, I quit buying dubs and went to subs only(I had a friend in Japan who sent me any anime I liked fansubbed). Still though, I can’t forget that VA cozying up to fans just so she could get pics of their creations and steal them.
@jordydepp7440 Black artist defended a 16 yo girl being called racial slurs for making popular characters black by saying he liked her art. There is no bullshit. The white and fake Google translate "japanese people" dogging on her are pathetic.
The US should have never discovered anime, period. I still remember the time we Asians were the main target demographics of anime when straight, yuri, and yaoi shippers could live together peacefully. Of course, sometimes we bickered about whose ships are better but that's about it. Now they straight up sending a death threat if the ship doesn't go their way or the skin tone of some characters are a bit lighter. I'm truly sick of these.
As an American, I see where you're coming from and can agree with you. As a kid/ teenager, I watched Anime because I wanted to be entertained, enjoyed the series, and wanted to make my own "Anime-inspired" work from it. Still do, to be honest. But now, with the shippers, the toxic fanbases, and the Twitter police online, it just ruins it for everyone. Not to mention all of the "Politically Correct" nonsense.
The fact that they were using someone else hard worked art work and paintin g over it and selling it for $20, that can be taken to court for stealing someones art work.
5:19 They misunderstand if they think everyone who creates art does it to "make something better". They have clearly never had the joys of seeing something and saying, "I want to make it worse" before (like for scenarios where the characters are in a bad situation in the original media, and most of the fans make their lives better and write happy stories and draw wholesome things, but you see the bad thing and think "I bet I can make this infinitely worse if I work at it". I've never looked at a fan work and thought someone was trying to make something better unless they were writing a fix it fic because they wanted to bring some characters back to life or something or fix a really bad ending to a show. Outside of this, I can't imagine looking at a fan piece and thinking someone made it better. I think of fan pieces as alternate realities. Those ships and scenarios and their genders and everything else is all just imagining what they'd be like in another reality in that scenario. Those things are good and fun, but no one thing is better than the other and if the original never existed, the fan works would have never been made, making the original always superior if we've decided to have such a mind set. Edit: The selling "black edits" thing is pretty messed up, however. They took the original piece and drew over it, and they charge for that. I wouldn't care at all if they had just drawn the whole thing themselves and did a different pose and didn't sell an edit of someone else's art.
"Oh my bad, I didn't know the broke into the author's office, held him at gunpoint, and hijacked the manga forcing for all the characters to be made black." People have threatened to do exactly this or worse many, many times over the years.
I would like to think that a lot of the VAs are decent people, and that they don’t deserve to get replaced by AI. I wasn’t all that happy when they sacked Tingyuns VA when both her and her character were my favorites. I don’t want to resort to thinking of her being a bad person to not feel busted up about it.

English localizing team and VA probably won't gonna be able to do anything about that if that really want end up happening either bcs Japan holds the right to not sell their license IP to them and since the English team hold no right to the work, they have no right to complain what the actual owner wants to do with it.😂

It's something to fight for. I've heard such things about the gaming industry before, and now the actual fans talk about gatekeeping, which is ludicrous, because the enemy is already inside and, us, actual fans and gamers, have been pushed out.
Quiet, not fighting for it will make it become every other hobby and medium that's been overrun with people who don't care about it.
Good luck with your dream, hope you succeed as you sound passionate 👍
Of course he has blue sky.
Everyone who uses bluesky non ironically NEEDS to get put on a watchlist in January. We are TIRED of threats within.
How to make your life much better with one step.
Step one: delete Twitter
