By far the best sounding whistle on any steam locomotive, probably ever, in my opinion. I just wish I knew more about the history of the whistle. I know it's a New Haven 6 Chime, but I mean more about things like what class of locomotive it came off of, which locomotive specifically wore it in service, the year it was built, etc. It's certainly got a unique sound, that's for sure!
It sounds even better when they blow it all the way! Apparently it was found in a field somewhere along the right of way but I dont know the credibility to that
@@TrainChamber You know, I can actually believe that, you'd be surprised at just what you can find trackside if you know what to look for. As for how it sounds when they blow it all the way, by far one of the best clips I've heard of it was in a compilation video called "Whistles of the Valley Railraod" I believe, at about 3 minutes in, I swear, I've never in my life heard 97 scream like that. I didn't realise just how pissed off a locomotive could sound until then. Wish I could've heard that in person, I'll bet it was phenomenal.
@@TrainChamber I wonder what the railroads current status on extending the line to the new end of the line is going I forget the name of the city knowing that they gone as far as the marina
@@TexasRailfan21-RailfanRyan Im uncertain the status but I think they wanna go all the way to East Haddam. Ik some lot of those rails are in tact but not really serviceable
My family actually owns both steam engines and also even runs the steam boat in Connecticut because one of my family members married the child of the steam train owner so technically my family owns the steam train which I think is very awesome!!
About time they took the NPE lettering off 97’s tender. Great video, Joe! Glad to see Ol’ 97 out and about again!
Glad you liked the video!
Has Valley railroad script on one side of it now
Beautiful video of Valley Railroad No. 97.
Thanks!

@@TrainChamber even better! Where was this locomotive built and when?
@@rudycarlson8245 1926 ALCo. You can either read the description for history or the builders plate seen within the video
I feel proud to know that my family owns Both steam trains, and the steam boat.
ok man
Nice video, Joe! Good to see 97 running.
Thanks, Mark! I agree!
Fantastic and love the NYC 6 chime.
Its a New Haven 6 Chime.
@@TrainChamber wow and i have an idea.
Awesome work Joe! Really outstanding job love the shots you took keep up the amazing work!!
Thanks bro! Hope to see you trackside again soon.
Enjoyed the shot at 4:30 where you can really catch 97 "hunting" from side-to-side.
Glad you enjoyed it!
My favorite childhood steam Locomotive finally running again 2-8-0 #97.
97 definitely is a pretty locomotive. Im glad to see her in regular service again.
Awesome camera work!! Definitely wanna film here someday
Thanks Jared! Its an interesting line to say the least
Great video
Thank you!
Good stuff Joe!
Thank you my good sir!
Well done video! Good subject also.
Thank you!
I love it
Thanks!
Great
wait, does this mean that 97 will not just be operating during christmas but also during the regular operating season to!?
Presumably yes, with 3025's 1472 inspection coming up soon, 40 and 97 will be the only two operating.
It’s really great to see 97 in operation wonder why her tender doesn’t have any lettering
It’s had North Pole Express lettering on it since 2021, they took it off this month because they’re preparing for a repaint
That is correct. The NPE sticker was removed last week and one side of the tender has been lettered so far.

Great video! what camera do you use
Thanks! This was shot on a Canon EOS 90D
When will the Valley Railroad ever decide to reopen the line through Middletown in the future?
It is unknown at this moment. If anything they'll get to Haddam before Middletown.
@@TrainChamber oh well
Very glad the NPE lettering is off. Lovely camerawork!
Same here! Thanks!
Was this originally number 40? If not, it looks very similar
#40 is a mikado, different engines but she’s still there.
They have been cosmetically modified to look similar to each other.
@@TrainChamber 97's headlight was raised in 1979 to reflect its as-built appearance.
I never knew the Essex Railroad had 3 locomotives
They have purchased a fourth, but the arrival status is currently unknown
