  • In this mini voice lesson, ‪@RozetteSaaangs‬ explains and demonstrates core support. We hear the phrase “sing from the diaphragm”… but what does that really mean? #singer #vocalcoach #voice #vocals #singinglessons #tips

    Hey, speech therapist here. Sorry, but this advice is incorrect. Support is NOT squeezing in your belly while you sing/speak. This will activate the super glottal structures to narrow inwards, raising pressure and this can lead to a functional voice disorders. Support is your breathing muscles responsible for inhaling holding a certain tention while exhaling (singing) so you have breath controle and don't push out too much air at once. Basically keeping your torso/ribs wide while exhaling/singing. Please don't squeeze your belly inwards while singing. It can ruin your voice.

    many confused about what it is..
    core support is not taking a big breath hold and squeeze ❌
    core support is by relaxing your diaphragm then taking a big breath(imagine being full/bloated after eating) and release the air slowly by adding core muscle without being over tightening your abs ✅

    Not squeezing, nor inflating your belly like a balloon. Take a breath by expanding your rib cage and then engage your core muscles, especially lower abdominal muscles. Do not squeeze, not suck it, nor hold your breath. Engage the same way you engage during a plank.

    In theater, this technique is part of what is called “the voice”. Basically, it is how you project without yelling. Another tip: Fill the bottom of the lungs, which is what she is doing. That means that you breathe and your stomach expands, not your chest. This also helps to calm yourself.
    I love your singing so much, and I aspire to become this experienced with singing!

      Currently having voice lessons and my coach tells me always always breathe in through the nose and exhale through the mouth.
      According to her, if you breathe through your nose, you are actually getting more air than when you breathe into the mouth.
      P.S. harder than it seems when u start to sing

    • @EE-xx5xd
      @EE-xx5xd 6 місяців тому

      Core strength is unimportant. Your intercostal muscles (muscles surrounding you lungs) and diaphragm strength, however, are. You can buy breathing or singing devices like a vocal trainer by better voice or an o2 trainer to train these muscles. You also need to have the muscle memory required to use these muscles properly while singing. That requires practice and vocal exercises

    If you breathe out all the way, close your mouth and do a soft laughing breath. That is your diaphragm and the upper abs. If you relax your upper abs you're now using only your diaphragm.
    The hardest part of singing is that its so natural and nobody knows how to relax anymore. Deep breath, and control how it comes out using your diaphragm. But if it doesn't feel like breathing, you're not relaxed

    Thank you for all these info snacks!!! I’m listening!!!!

  • @LucaAnamaria
    @LucaAnamaria 8 місяців тому

    Actually, your abs are supposed to be engaged on the exhale, but they do not push your gut / belly inwards--they engage to keep it distended so that you can better control your airflow and prevent your lungs from expelling air too fast and too soon.

  • @vobavocal
    @vobavocal Рік тому +3

    Ouch! This is exactly why so many people have voice problems. "Snatching inwards of the belly" is the opposite of support: it's called Pressure! And that will destroy your voice soon enough.

      I tend to agree. My vocal instructor in college taught me to continuously push outward at the stomach while singing. It helps create a sort of vacuum so that when you breathe, air is smoothly drawn in and fills the space instead of being pulled in with tension. I was able to lengthen the duration of sustained notes considerably after learning it this way. My instructor was for classical styles and there are different breathing methods for other styles with various levels of success.
