Weight Loss is Hard Enough Without These Myths

  • Despite knowing better and needing to eat better, I was overweight for years. I exercised but resisted healthy eating because it seemed like I was in love with the wrong foods, and I didn’t feel like I fit into “that crowd” anyway. As it turns out, my reluctance to change was all in my head based on myths I accepted as truths. This video shares three myths that prevented weight loss and healthy eating from getting a foothold in my life. My hope is that by the end of the video, you’ll see, as I did, that you got this.

I've been doing IF for 10 weeks and down 17 lbs. I rarely eat anything with sugar now and use monks fruit to sweeten my coffee. Sugar will lose its hold and won't taste anywhere near as good. I have self respect now because I made the change. I'm not weak...I'm strong!

@@rosetaylor7972 Hi, yes. I do it every day and vary my fasts between 12-18 hours throughout the week. I've read that varying the fasting times doesn't let your body settle into and adjust to a set schedule of say 16/8. It's worked for me, I hope it does for you too. BTW I'm post- menopausal-11 years now.

If choice is only between salad and burger, then real choice is either neither or the burger. I eat salads to add nutrients to a meal. Just the salad leaves me very hungry. I find it best to avoid hunger pangs so that I don't make bad choices.

Dear Dr. Becky, thank you for your channel. In July of this year my weight reached it's highest point ever and my doctor said, let's try to bring that down. I had always been skeptical of IF and low carb (because of the scary idea of keto mixed with my cholesterol issues). Then I found your channel, borrowed your book from the library (currently reading) and got my doctor's support for doing IF. I'm still not on low carb as much as I need to be, but I've been concentrating on just being consistent with the IF first. I'm happy and delightfully surprised to say I've lost 8 pounds since August 1. Now that the temperatures aren't like walking on the surface of the sun, I plan to start walking a few times a week. Thank you for all of your sensible and easy-to-understand information. It is much appreciated by us skeptics and cynics.

Man, I'm 4.5 years "sober" and these topics mirror my experience pretty close. TASTE: Be aware that sugar (by which I mean sugar and all UPFoods), are highly addictive. They don't just taste good, your drug of choice, sugar, is hijacking your taste buds to get you to pick it over other things. Once you get off of sugar it will amaze you how good real food tastes. I never knew that Brussel sprouts were actually quite sweet. AT the beginning I would eat junk food one time and it would pull me back in. Now, I eat fast food with my family once or twice a month and I'm happy to get back to real food. YOU need a fallback, for me it is coffee. A friend wants to meet at a cafe, and there is nothing there you can eat! Literally nothing. But I can always have a coffee, black or with cream, even decaf if I want. HEALTH. After about 2 years my asthma went away, my energy levels are much higher and more stable.

My wife's doctor told her to reduce the sodium in her diet and cut out caffeine (due to Meniere's disease - too much fluid pressure in her ears, was causing vertigo among other things). When we left, I told her, "You're going to start tasting your food." We stopped at Krispy Kreme on the way home for donuts and coffee, kind of a "last hurrah." Overall, she's learned to read the food labels more carefully, and cut out a lot of processed food, which led to some weight loss. Her primary care physician sent her to a nutritionist, and that's been helping more; getting more fiber and protein in her diet and it's led to more weight loss. We've tried some things (Keto bread, for instance) that just isn't good, and she's very much a texture eater, and some things just don't work for her (like most lower-carb tortillas). She still likes her crackers and chips, though, but lower sodium versions. Soda is gone from the diet and she overall feels better because of that as well.

I have almost eliminated sugary starchy foods from my diet. No luck, stilll not losing weight. Takes a lot more salad to stuff yourself to feel sated. Now instead of sugary crap I eat "good" crap, like nuts, cheese, and jerky. No sugary crap but heavy loads of calories. I try fasting and make it maybe an hour. :)

I don't have an off button. If I eat just one bite of something sweet, I can't seem to stop myself from eating more, often until I'm sick. It's an all or nothing kind of thing. ??Do you have suggestions for solving this issue? If in a moment of weakness I say yes to that food, highly processed sweet food, I can't stop from eating lots more. And what's worse is I'm plagued with wanting it again and again for days and even weeks. I don't like the idea that I can never again have chocolate, but it seems that's the case. Because just one bite means a craving to have it again and again, even if I hadn't had any for a very long time. True addiction I think.

This entire video is the case made for meat, eggs, salt and water as, at the very least, the staple of the diet. Simple, tastes good, doesn't lead to cravings, always feel good and satisfied after eating. Not enough, add some veg and occasional fruit if you needs to, but keeping it simple, with no real reason to look for other foods frees one up to live the rest of life. Had to laugh at the salad, was a voracious salad eater before carnivore, and it was not making me healthy. If one wants to eat some junk food, go for it. I, personally don't place that limit on myself, however, after 3 years, just don't want any junk any more, even on a 'special' occasion. Being human should never be defined by what you eat. Eat to live, don't live to eat. Sugar can be special, but when you realize it is mostly poison, the incentive to chase it kind of dies. ( My take on sugar and it works for me. ) Best of luck, however you figure out the puzzle of life and diet!
