I‘m absolutely certain it was Teddy Buckner on trumpet ,Vic Dickenson on trombone, Arvell Shaw on bass, JC Heard on drums and Sammy Price on piano, that was Bechet’s line up in Knokke , Belgium recording on July 7th 1958 on my Double album on Vogue label called “Refreshing Tracks” - Bechet died in Paris the year later. Roy Eldridge was not the trumpeter on that track but replaced Heard on drums on another recording of the tune in Cannes on July 10th 1958. At festivals Eldridge accompanied Coleman Hawkins and at the Norman Grant Jazz at the Philharmonic concerts.
Yowzers ! One rip roarin' version of one of my all time favorite tunes ! The late great Mr Bechet was the King of the Clarient ! And what a bodacious band he has here with him ! All of 'em are TOPS ! Oodles of thanks for sharing this fab footage with us ! CHEERS !! :-)
This is amazing footage! What a treat to actually see Bechet play! Do you have any information about it? I would love to know who the other musicians are. I think that is Vic Dickinson on trombone. Where might a sharper version of this be found?
According to other musicians Bechet was quite likely to push his way to the mike for a solo. Quite a character too, in Paris had a wife and all was well until he took another mistress !!!
You seem to know a lot about Bechet, so can you tell me what the tempo is of his song Sweet Georgia Brown, and what style it is? (Like ragtime, blues, classic-blues etc.)
Made my day💖

Sammy Price is SENSATIONAL. Thanks for that, I was wondering who it could possibly be. This band was the perfect vehicle for Bechet.
Literally holding the album in my hand right now
