    Hi Ms. Aragon: this is just what I needed. I am an old man who started learning when I was 16. Studied on and off until I was 30, and it's been almost 40 years since I touched my trumpet. I now have 3 grandchildren who are all musical and I am determine to learn it before I leave this world, hoping to play with them. These wonderful warmup exercises you've created may help me get there. Your tone is so amazing. I don't know if I could ever make such a wonderful tone as yours.' Brava! and Thank you.

    Thank you Estella. I watched your video about proper embouchure which helped me a lot to eliminate confusion regarding that. My question is how are you buzzing the two higher notes in each sequence so effortlessly. I've been trying and I can hit the first note but the two higher notes I have to blow quite hard to hit them. And it's not effortless as the way you're doing it.

    • @TrumpetHeadquarters
      @TrumpetHeadquarters  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching this lesson. If you can buzz the first tone well, focus on that make it the best buzz you can make. I have been playing for over 20 years, and that’s why it’s effortless. Fundamentals are the KEY to success, do them daily and slowly and soon you will develop the muscle strength needs to execute some exercises. Just keep going forward, focus on tone, fundamentals and stay relaxed. Best of luck!!

    Can you make a video about alternate fingerings and memorizing them? I have a hard time playing certain pieces just because I move between notes awkwardly when playing fast speeds. I love your videos and how well you explain certain topics.

    • @TrumpetHeadquarters
      @TrumpetHeadquarters  7 років тому +2

      Hi Carlos, thanks for watching the video. I HIGHLY advice against using alternate fingerings to play regular music. Alternate fingerings are primarily used in flexibility and other warm-up exercises to make it more challenging and develop better accuracy. Other method books also add alt. fingerings to increase difficulty. However, these valve combinations are often out of tune and should not be used as a shortcut for developing dexterity. It sounds like you simply need to spend some quality time developing your dexterity and coordination. Check out my video on dexterity for some tips. Good luck!

    I just found your videos and really like the way you teach. Thirty years ago I was a great player. Just started playing again a few weeks ago. I am struggling with keeping a buzz on low notes like c, d, and e and tend to just blow air. I do not have this issue with higher notes. I’m not too sure what’s going on. I don’t want to develop any bad habits. Do you have any thoughts or recommendations?

  • @iamkikoman
    @iamkikoman 6 років тому +2

    Technically I am not a beginner. I just haven't played my horn since age 25 and that was over 42 years ago. I picked it up last week and ouch. But, I want to start playing it again. I was thinking I should go all the way back to square one. I recall playing A Trumpeter's Lullaby in eight grade. I went to U.T.E.P. back in my 20's and played a variety of music such as The Southern Cross, Haydn Trumpet Concerto, Bugler's Holiday, I also played in the marching, concert and jazz band. I also played, for a short time, with a Mariachi group. My sound is good for a short period of time, then it becomes raspy. I guess I need to take this in baby steps. :-)

    Hi! What's best on a Bb trumpet? To play a written C and have a tuner setup transposed to show C or to show Bb - the sounded note? I think either Bb so when singing a Bb you don't sing a C by mistake or conversely setup to show C so that you associate the feel of the note played with C so you can pick up any alternatively pitched trumpet and play their 'C'. Does that make sense?? What's the common wisdom? Thanks! :-)

    • @TrumpetHeadquarters
      @TrumpetHeadquarters  7 років тому +1

      Hi Steve. Honestly...I've never even thought about it, but since you bring it up I'd say it depends on your level of theory understanding. All beginner and intermediate students should set it to show the note they are playing to avoid confusion. More advanced students familiar with transposition and the concept of concert pitch can (but don't have to) set it to show the pitch that's sounding. As long as it's clear to you I don't see why it should matter or interfere with transposing in everyday life.

      Cruiser007 hi there, thank you for watching. I play on a Dennis Wick MM3C. It's a different mouthpiece than what the video shows. At the time I played on a Curry 3C. I don't see a need to be switching mouthpieces left and right so I like to stick to a 3C, an all around mouthpiece for all types of work.

    • @stevenuttley
      @stevenuttley 7 років тому +1

      I totally agree with this. I play on a Bach 3C (Elkhart version) and use it for virtually everything from big band lead playing to small group jazz and function band work. I've been playing since I was 11 and am now 60. There are exceptions but generally speaking the mouthpiece changing game is a road to nowhere (and an expensive one), the answer to problems generally lies within.

      Walker Fitzgerald thank for watching the video Walker, feel free to modify this warmup to your needs by adding more resting when needed. While resting as much as you play is a fundamental learning technique to strengthen the muscles, resting a little less (half as much as you play) is also good for developing endurance. Always always modify to your needs.
