that's the most bs i've ever heard. anyone can play an instrument at any age, those people are complete idiots. don't let that deter you from learning!

Cudos to you, you chose a challenging instrument. How's it going? I started guitar at about 20, piano at about 29, I'm 34 and have started trumpet, trumpet is quite challenging. I know people have that lie in their heads they need to start young, it's a lie. I also play drums and bass, don't intend on stopping learning

@@selinbuyukcengiz6873 ok, well, welldone, I understand about time, but welldone for trying, don't give up. Some things you could try for a season are, wake up a bit earlier and spend time practicing, during your lunch break at work, and in the evening, stay inspired and motivated, watch vids, pray for God to show you a way.. Small gaps etc. Try to be consistent, some time everyday, or every few days, I pray for help for you

Common misconception, I started playing as a kid but there are studies that have shown that you can always develop your brain to read music. By the way that guy reminds me soooooo much of my old band director.

I played tuba in high school and got pretty good at it. but that was over 25 years ago and I haven't touched one in about 15 years. An old friend from those band days (and accomplished music educator in the time since then, and virtuosic musician throughout his life) passed away last year and I started to realize how much I missed making music. So I bought myself a trumpet, an old Vega Odell I found on ebay for way less than it seems like it should have been priced and now comes the struggle of getting to the point that I can make music out of it. And that's where this video comes in. Thanks for making it.

Wowzers! I'm 71. I played the trumpet in band as a kid. First chair. Haven't kept it up all these years, but now in memory of my Dad, I regret never learning to play a couple tunes that he would play while sitting around the living room when i was little. Up a lazy River and the other one, to my surprise, the same tune you open up with here, by my dads favorite, Harry James. It's been a long, long , time. I've found some good links on UA-cam here and have gotten some sheet music copied, but am finding I need a good refresher in order to figure out the right notes. Just trying to read the music is proving impossible. So this lead me to finding your video here, where you open up with this very song. I will be looking around at what you have here. Sharps and flats. Time signature counts and so much that to my surprise alludes me. So like the title of your opening tune. IT'S BEEN A LONG LONG TIME! So cool.

Just subscribed. I grew up playing the French Horn, then the Tuba - yes, I made that switch for Marching Band, and of course the flugel horn and eventually the Trumpet my Jr and Sr year of High school jazz band. I really enjoyed playing the melody instead of Umpa, umpa. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I'm 45 now and haven't picked up a horn since 95. I can still play scales and such, but want to start over and that's how I found you. Thank you for easing me back into this.

Being surrounded by amazing musicians pushed me a lot, and I couldn't play everything, but that situation advanced me so much more than if I'd been in an easy group. I think it's making much more sense and had no idea that the notes would be different from the notes on piano, so this is important to know for sure, so thanks for pointing that out to us newbies, which looks like my kids and I are not alone. Well, we started over six months ago, and got sidetracked and our study and practice got moved from the backburner, to the sink. We are coming back as students, and hope we can progress now knowing what the notes are supposed to sound like. Thanks again.

Father was a music teacher and had his own music store and is an accomplished French hornest and writes music and played with symphonies and college bands and would like to surprise him. The weird thing is about my trumpet is that I used to be a blue to play it but suddenly the next day after I got it and blew into it, it just didn’t work. I’m going into 5th grade band and this really helps! (I finally found a video that helps me with playing trumpet!) Thank you so much! ☺️

Hi Maggie. That's great that you were getting sounds - not so great that the next day you weren't. Either your lips weren't vibrating or the air just wouldn't go through your Trumpet. If it's the lips thing, try getting a buzz going in just the mouthpiece before you put it in the instrument. If you can get a good mouthpiece buzz sound but the air won't pass through the Trumpet then my guess is that either there's a valve turned around in its casing or - if you took the valves out - a couple of valves might be in the wrong casing. They're different from each other. If one of your valves is making a clicking sound when you push it down and let it up, try turning the cap (where your fingertip goes) clockwise until it clicks into place, then tighten the cap below that. See if it plays now. If that's not the problem, look at the links below and see if they help. I'll make a note to do a quick video on turned around valves, because that happens to a lot of young players.
      Good Luck!
At 17:50 in this video I'm putting valves back in a Trumpet

There's a long explanation in this article if you like that sort of thing:

I am 15 years old. I just got a trumpet recently. I have no teachers at my school that knows the trumpet at all, so I am alone to learn this instrument. Its my first brass instrument and, while I can play 1 note, I cant go up and down like an alarm because when I try it just becomes louder and not higher. I wish I had someone who knows how to play the trumpet guide me. I have looked all over UA-cam and seen countless tutorials yet I still am not confident I am doing my mouth position right, since I cant go high on the trumpet using just my voice.
