Earl was a founding member with Geoff and Layne going back to 1997. The storyline was done after he had a health scare, appendicitis I think. He left the group in 2020 for undisclosed personal reasons.
Different gods of the underworld fighting over his soul. Baron (Geoff) had the ability to decide if it was his time, if not send him back.

Thanks for your reaction! This had a complicated storyline that was amazingly told through the music of Queen. Earl was one of the founding members going back to 1997 when they were still in high school. The storyline is based on a health scare he had shortly before he left Voice Play in 2020. Earl is fighting to stay alive while all the different gods are fighting for his soul but in the end he wins back his life (other Voice Players will explain the storyline better than I can in the comments). Yes, Geoff does have an incredible 5 octave voice range. Halloween season is here now and Voice Play are the Kings of Halloween. Voice Play and solo Geoff have recently released some new ones and have some great spooky themed covers coming up for the holiday season this year.
You think Earl sings high? In Voiceplay’s newest video - Be Prepared - their featured guest is Mykal Kilgore. He was a founding member of their original barbershop quartet (4 The Love) that became 4:2:five and then Voiceplay. And in that original quartet Earl was second tenor to Mykal’s high tenor!
Love the reaction. VoicePlay is always outstanding. Geoff has recorded singing in five octaves, lowest note to highest note. He has 3 octaves in full chest voice which is even more impressive.
When VoicePlay was in it's first incarnation, the first tenor was actually Mykal Kilgore, who we hear for the first time in their latest drop, Be Prepared. Earl sang second tenor - hard to imagine, isn't it?

Aside from Eli mentioning Freddy Mercury’s interest in mythology, the rest of this comment is based on the video and my own research as an amateur student of mythology:
Anubis (Egyptian) (J None), Cerberus (Greek) (Layne) and Yama Nirvana (East Asian and Buddhist) (Eli) are all guardians that convey souls to the underworld. There is visible tension in the video between them and Geoff’s character, Baron Samedi (Haitian Voudou). Baron is the master of the dead AND the giver of life. A person will not die if Baron refuses to dig their grave. So while the others want to get on with it, it’s the Baron’s decision. It’s only right that he is the last one to face Earl before Earl’s return to his life.
Earl really does have a singular voice. There are some people that hold that Queen in 5 Minutes is #4 in the Trapped (Billie Eilish), Panic in 4 Minutes Part 1 and Part 2 trilogy.

This is most of my comment I was going to type (actually copy). The only thing that I’d add (that another commenter had stated) was that in the beginning Nick gives Earl a gold medallion and in the at the end it’s missing because Baron expects payment for his services.
