    I just started my (older model) Ryobi 3600/4500 watt generator, that I purchased in summer of 2017, with 4 year old 'ethanol free' gas still in it. Gas begins to naturally deteriorate after 6 months, and needs an added fuel stabilizer to store as long as 2 years. I am SHOCKED to see my generator start up and run with FOUR YEAR OLD GAS!
    What I did to start it was, I flipped the fuel switch from Off to On, and then pushed the starting lever from Engine Off to Choke, and pulled the string only 4 times. IT STARTED! And then I pushed the start lever over to the smooth running position and it revved up to smooth and calm, regular fast rpms. Sounds like a mild lawnmower, loud yes, but not too loud.
    Now when I use it again, I plan to keep STA-BIL 360 in the Ethonal Free gas, to truly stabilize it, while switch from old regular conventional engine oil, to Valvoline High-Mileage 10w-30 Synthetic Blend engine oil. Valvoline adds zinc and other cleaning elements to keep down engine crud from building up.
    Ryobi is the real deal!

      That’s awesome pre inflation, ethanol free gas was $10.00 a gallon. Did the tank seem rusty?

    Need help starting mine. Changed the spark plug and cleaned out the carb and jets but will only run with brake cleaner. Anything else i can try?

    • @pattayperformance
      @pattayperformance  2 роки тому +1

      Clean the carb again…you are missing something.
      When you pull the carb apart does fuel come out of the bowl? If it does that means the carb is getting fuel. Just jets are clogged to getting it up into the chamber to combust.
      If you aren’t getting fuel…you have blockage between carb and fuel tank.
      Keep us updated

      Johnny Rossi58,
      Yes those switches can go bad, you can by pass them temporarily!
      What diagnostic steps did you take before you replaced all those parts and what were the results of them?

      Everyone should keep in mind that portable generators can be deadly if not used carefully ua-cam.com/video/I1jT3ANENvI/v-deo.html especially we should also keep our children safe when we’re using portable generators so they won’t get electrocuted or hurt by the generator. Everyone should be aware with the safety of using generators. Just reminding everyone to be careful with portable generators and remember not to run your generator indoors. Just reminding everyone. Thank you. Stay safe

    I like the fact that you left the 21 switch pulls in the video. That switch has gotten me more than once too. Great video. I'm having compression issues with my Ryobi generator 4500. I'm gonna run thru the things you did in yours and see what happens. I had a leaf in the gas tank some how. But I fished it out of the tank. I'm wondering what else got in there. Would that cause it to not have compression?

    • @pattayperformance
      @pattayperformance  4 роки тому +1

      John Wahlers
      Just trying to keep it real! Pull the valve cover and check for movement when you pull the recoil. Check gap.
      Doesn’t hurt to pull plug and put a little oil down the cylinder to bump up the compression.
      Thanks for the view and comment, hopefully you subscribed to my channel 🤙🏻🇺🇸🦅🔧

    • @johnwahlers3363
      @johnwahlers3363 4 роки тому +1

      Yeah I pulled the valve cover and I had movement I don't have the gapping tool, the rockers kinda felt loose. I tried tightening them up a bit but still have no compression.

    • @johnwahlers3363
      @johnwahlers3363 4 роки тому

      Also I have a split in the hose that goes from the valve case to the air filter. I've been trying to find a replacement part but haven't yet.

    • @pattayperformance
      @pattayperformance  4 роки тому

      John Wahlers yikes they are cheap to own VIA HF. These motors have a compression release so using a compression tester won’t give an accurate reading.
      Throw some oil down the plug hole and see if it bumps up compression. Doesn’t hurt to check for keyway in the wheel

    • @johnwahlers3363
      @johnwahlers3363 4 роки тому

      Sorry, i couldn't follow some of what you said. VIA HF?? And the part about the key way?? Could you clarify this for me.

    Nice video. I would have kept the generator on the Jack stand while siphoning the gas to the gas can since it was higher.Let gravity do the work. Great job on the explaning step by step instructions.

    easy to drain gas. buy a marine tank hose w/o the fittings. it has a priming bulb and you can drain the gas as long as the empty container is below the level of the gas tank.

    • @pattayperformance
      @pattayperformance  2 роки тому

      Ok…
      So it dies every 10 minutes. Can you restart it right away or does it need to cool down and it will restart?
      If it needs to cool down to restart you have a spark issue. Replace the spark plug with the NGK equivalent and replace the ignition coil.
      Make sure the oil is topped off as well.
      When it starts to die down…if you take the fuel cap off does the issue still persist?
      What diagnostic steps have you taken and what were the results?

So we bought it and it was running pretty good the last 2 weeks now it bogged down and died when we crank it then it immediately cuts off again!???? We changed the oil what else can we do! Also the air filter has some oil in it to? Is that normal?
