Thank you. This is very helpful. Definitely answered most of my questions. Setting up my first saltwater tank after. I used to do freshwater tanks growing up.
Thank you for this video. I was feeling very discouraged trying to get into the hobby with my first tank. Everyone is telling me to get big tanks, which is just not possible for me. I'm sure they mean well, but it's simply not possible for me. It can be quite overwhelming and intimidating with all the new information.
The big tank idea is somewhat out dated. You can be successful with small tanks under 20 gallons . Just follow my instructions on water weekly changes and you will be successful. 👍🏻
Hey Zechariah, just a light rinse is some salt water before you put it in your tank. Maybe some of your old water you take out of your tank on water change day. 👍🏻😊or fresh salt water, either way👍🏻
Hi MBTravel, Yes, Parsippany NJ. He is not listed as a business. Mike at Frags Galore, runs his side frag business out of his converted garage. It’s quite cool! And he is extremely reasonable. You call him for an appointment. Here is his number. 201-486-7088. Thanks for watching the vid. 👍🏻
Hi Robert, I have a 12v deep cel battery with a 1000w continuous 2000w surge inverter charger. Almost everything important is plugged into it. Lights, heater, pumps. Math tells me About 15 hours of power👍🏻I used it once during hurricane Isaias lasted 24 hours, but my set up has grown. 😃
Hi Tom. Very good idea to present a new set up. But now I want to start me to 🤣. How do you fill the existing holes of the partition to ensure the overflow function ?
Hey Jean, 😃 I used silicone to fill the holes in the bottom of the partition, that way it functions like a normal overflow. I didn’t want to say that because beginners would’ve been very confused🤪😃
I have a question I just recently lost the soft tissue off of my frogspawn it’s laying in the bottom of my tank and it actually looks better than what it did when it was attached to the skeleton will it reform a skeleton underneath it or is it just dead?
You are so focused, fire alarm blasting - must keep recording. Building on fire - almost finished. Fire trucks hosing the flames -finished! now it can be posted😎 All Great advise setting up a saltwater tank Tom! I really like the way you cut live rock too!
Hey Paul! Haha, there was fire department here too! It was an alarm issue. 😃no fire 🔥. I like this little tank. It’s inspiring me to go with clear silicone and no black on the back. The real clean look😊live rock cutting is the working mans way 😃those band saws are really pricy
Hi Tom. Reef Glass Protein Skimmer. Is it worth the 140 bucks it would take to get to me? Is it made wholly in the US? I'm thinking of one for my new 7.5 cube (which is inspired by you).
Hey Steven, I don’t think it’s worth $140 on a 7.5 cube. You might try to rely on water changes to keep your nutrients down on 7.5G . I took the reef glass off my 6 gallon and haven’t seen any real change? I’m not sure where it’s made? 😊
@@TOMReefer Hi tom. I took your advice. thanks. Here's what I did instead, I bought an aqueon gravel vacuum and used it as the body of the skimmer. I added suction cups to the body of the tube (skimmer) and drilled a side skimate vent at the top. I used an airline gate valve and some tubing and a wooden airstone I have. I've gotten this far. I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm into it about 20.00 so far. With the Airstone, (I have a pump) i'm thinking it will end up being 35 bucks. Hope it works.
That’s awesome Steven! 😃I would love to see a pic when it’s done! The Reef Glass Skimmer is super basic, it makes sense to make one for that savings👍🏻plus it’s just plain old fun 🤪
Ok Tom Johnny 5 here… I have what seems like to me white worm buts sticking out of my …(I use lava rock for my biological filtration ,10 lbs for my 30 gal) lava rock in my sump! They are only there ,no place else that I have found. They are kinda thick…u might say I never seen these before do u have any clue what they might be? Only on the lava rock. The life rock is what I used to start my tank ,no live rock I’m wondering if their ok.
Hi Tom I’m in the aquarium hobby since 2009 but I just brought aquatop 40g I want to start saltwater tank pls help me out how I can start I don’t want to mess up my new tank if I started wrong 😑 can pls DM or reply me back I really appreciated.
Hi Gsingh, not to push my videos on you but, if you go to my main page, tap videos in the menu, choose view from oldest, and start watching from my first video, they progress you along to show you how to do everything. 👍🏻😊 thanks for watching!
@@TOMReefer video gets too long sometimes can you tell me how to start ?? Should I put live rocks and what kind of light , protein skimmer, heater?? Pls I need your help I will really appreciate you
@@gsinghpbx007 hi Gsingh, Saltwater reef keeping requires a lot of patience. Your best way to be successful is to educate yourself. It’s not just put a heater, skimmer and light over your tank. 😊I really can’t write all the information down in a dm. There are lots of videos and books out there you should use to learn before you rush into it. The Marine Aquarium Handbook, by Martin Mo. great place to start👍🏻😊

Hi Rico! 😊I’m glad the video was helpful!👍🏻good luck and happy reef keeping

Man every time you show fish guy mike store, I want to drive the hour to go check it out. 👍 nice video, like always 😊

This is nice and easy content. I do think beginners would definitely appreciate this a lot. Simplicity is the key there. Kudos to you Tom.
Hey Dark Night, thanks, I agree, lot out there that want to start a reef😊👍🏻
Congrats on 3k!
Thanks Paul! 😃👍🏻

It’s possible it might regrow. Possibly from one small tiny bud. Even if the rest dies. Don’t get rid of it yet. See what happens😊👍🏻
Will do sir!
What tank is this?
It’s a pet smart brand🤪Top something😃it looked clear and rimless. And no black silicone for a change 😊
