      I agree ! I met with a trichologist and he told me that “ Black women can grow their hair to any lengths they want, don’t let people fool you! Genetics only determines the rate of growth, and maybe texture... maybe. Your mother and father doesn’t determine whether you have hang time or not.. only you and your knowledge of retaining length. Ex if you retain 4 inches a year within 5 years that 20 inches of length Ms.Richardson” ..... I said “ oh shit “ Lmaoo

    • @Soulfeedr23
      @Soulfeedr23 3 роки тому +24

      Brianna Richardson it definitely determines the length not just the rate of growth genetics does play a big role but not the only role you can definitely grow your hair out it just takes a lot of time and work. Genetically if your parents had long hair or it runs in the family then that’s definitely going to play a big part I know from experience but you can always grow it out.

      @@Soulfeedr23 no it doesn’t play length I know alot of people who parents had long hair and they kid have short or vice versa...black girls can grow they hair however length they want it to be as long as they find the right product for their hair and maintain it..heathy hair is a happy hair and will grow. Flawless. Airi I never said black girls couldn’t grow hair to whatever desired length so I’m not sure what you’re talking about my point is genetics have a lot to do with rate of growth they play a big role. Hair has 3 states and the first state which is the Anagen stage is the “growing” stage not everyone hair stays in this stage that long everyone is different some people’s hair have a faster growing rate and this is because of genetics also products don’t play as big a role some people use simple oils and moistures to help grow their hair nothing fancy

      Our hair is coiled, curled, waved. If a person has a speck of black blood, a drop, a snap of the finger amount the blink of an eye amount of black blood in their body that person is 'not' going to have straight hair. Once we pull or straighten our coiled, curled, wavy, or locks of hair out you see our length. People use a term that I don't care for or use that is saying 'good hair' well, if your hair grows it's good period. If you have hair coming from your scalp and it is or does not grow then that is not good hair. It should be growing. I love my black hair. I am not ashamed of it. I don't color or straighten 'my' hair or use heat on it. Many, many years ago I did wear a chemical relaxer. I feel my hair is a gift. As a black person we are the only people in the whole wide world who can do all of the things that we can do with our hair then shampoo it out and start all over again with something even more fantastic. When I am at functions and I see young black men at weddings and they will have a message carved in to their hair, such as congrats Kim-n-Shon I stare. Corn rows in our hair is as old as I don't know what but man the many styles we can wear those with. I'm very ole' school. When I think back to the days of the sister singing group Sister Sledge or singer songwriter Valerie Simpson they all use to wear some beautiful braids with their very own hair. I love it. I love my black hair. I thank God for the gift of it. Our black hair can grow and grow and grow and then grow some more. Bye now

    I think hair type only matters when someone is trying to define their curls. Someone with tighter coils will most likely need a stronger hold for definition than someone with looser curls. I think density also matters though. Someone with lower density can get away with less product and probably some lighter products than someone with very high density hair. But porosity is def #1.

I did notice my styles would come out different than if I did the style on freshly washed hair. Also, my scalp would feel weird after a co-wash. I decided to stop with the cowashing after watching another video by someone else. It's not something I did for long so I won't miss it. You are so right. Learning my porosity and density has helped my hair growth more than anything else I’ve done. I was using cold water, heavy butters and heavy oils on my low porosity hair. I was doing DIY deep conditioning routines from youtubers with high porosity \ dense hair. You can imagine how mushy, damp, and crazy my hair was looking. Breaking off constantly. And glad it only took you two years...it took me five. 😫 I don’t co-wash, I use clarifying shampoos, warm water, lighter oils and leave-in conditioners (and I don’t do a cream and Leave-in...I choose one, not both), and I leave my hair alone. Such a difference in growth from the previous five years. I love your tips! And I live in NC too!! Lived in LA for several years and the dry heat damaged my hair and skin. Love the humidity in NC.

I can’t use shea products way to thick for my hair “type” weighs my hair down and leaves that gritty film feel on it. You guys know the feel! So that’s when type comes into play, i have high porosity hair it doesn’t take a lot to get in but it’s more work retaining moisture and that’s where type comes in again i have to use what won’t weigh my hair down in order for me to get results I’m looking for especially in a silk press.

  • @Lanakaura
    @Lanakaura 3 роки тому +1

    I feel like hair types still matter because the curlier the hair stand the harder it is for natural oils to move down the strand so you would treat it differently than straighter hair

    Shampoo is good for getting all of the products out. Just like the ones you mentioned.
    However, sometimes I use Prell shampoo, that's what my mom used on my hair as a child. Does wonders on getting all of the products out of your hair. I know that it has ingredients that as naturals shouldn't use, but I don't use it every time. It works for me though.

    I want to mention that the float test only works if your hair is clean. By that I mean the strand of hair you use needs to be thoroughly clarified and that’s it. No shampoo. If your hair is sealed with anything then the strand will float even if you’re high porosity. I don’t recommend using the float test bc even your shampoo can mess it up.

      I had the same problem, I think its because we have muliple types of patterns on our heads so some of it reacts differently..but you should be able to tell how majority of your hair takes in water by how long it takes to dry when it's all wet. If it takes long to dry it's low, if it absorbs quickly it's high, if its midway its "normal"..

    It also depends on weather. Skin and hair can adapt very quickly. My hair and skin is driest in winter. I belong on an island with warm humid weather, my skin and hair just glow. I went to Fiji and I look like the people there.

    Hopefully this helps for the naturals confused about there hair type😩💕
    Starting off with type one! 1a-b & c
    Type 1 hair is more of the straight type & it’s very rare to see any curl pattern in this hair type. I recommend soft shampoos & conditioners on this type.💕
    Type 2 hair! 2a/b & c
    This hair type is wavy!!⚠️YESSS⚠️ this is most people’s favorite hair type because it’s in the middle!
    Your hair is somewhere in the category of 2a/b or c if your hair is wavy curly!
    Shampoo & condition , deep condition weekly! Use the egg , mayo , olive oil treatment every 1/2 weeks. Please make sure to take care of your hair as you should with every other hair type! If you have any other questions on this hair type PLEASE ASK WITH A REPLY BELOW!
    Type 3 hair! 3a/b/ & c
    This hair type curly , if this makes since your hair is thick but it still hangs.💕
    I don’t have much info on this hair type but it still is a very great hair type! ASK BELOW IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS.
    Type 4 hair! 4a/b & c
    This is also one of my favorite hair types because it’s very unique , 4a is more thick but curly , 4b is more thick & coilyxcurly & 4c is more thick it doesn’t really have a curl pattern but it’s still beautiful.❤️
    Hope this helped , I may or may not be right on some of these but I tried my best, as my wishes of being an upcoming hairdresser may come true!💕 ily all have a nice day!!!!!!!😩😘😘😘

    I think that hair type is a good tool for people who are brand new babies to the natural hair journey, because you can get an idea of people to watch on UA-cam that have close to your hair type and it’s a good starter point. but other than that it don’t mean much lol. You’re eighth hair porosity is definitely more important.

    What worked for me was eating rice for lunch and dinner. My hair grew 5 inches in 2 months. Rice might be the trick because I had waistlength hair since I was about 6 years old to about 15 years old then i cut it and rice was always in my diet. I just decided to eat rice with lunch and dinner and grew it longer faster. It took about two weeks to grow it 2 inches. Rice was not in my lunch diet until trying this method I made up.

      That’s all a marketing thing. It’s not the hair type so much as it is the porosity of the hair. Certain products will absorb better while some
      may need manipulating for it to work.

    Idk my hair type and honestly it doesn’t matter. What I can’t figure out I my porosity! My hair takes forever to get dry, like sometimes 2 days. And if I put too much product on it and then braid it twist it, the products literally come out of my hair, and I have to dab the excess off.
