For literally 41 years I've struggled to understand the directions of the letters and it's why I never went any further with this (but I kept my love off the language, which is why I'm teaching myself now) Thank you for the clarification!

I didn't realize I was squeezing my letters slightly. What would you say to a middle aged Momma going back to school for ASL that has premature arthritis? I'd love to know your input as we need to protect our instruments!
She isn't preventing them. Do you actually mean you think she should stop teaching ASL? As a 51 year old hearing person who is set in her ways but needs to learn quickly for my 11 year old Autistic son who recently lost all his ability to vocalize speech (so I can teach him) I actually need a speaking person to vocalize the background commentary to help me learn as quickly as possible (deafness is not a factor in our situation) Although not everyone who uses ASL to communicate is deaf, out of respect for the deaf community I will expand my learning to include deaf instructors, when I have reached a level of proficiency that can support that.
People like you leave a bad mark on the deaf community. Yes, it is their culture. Yes hearing people may not be able to understand the situation a deaf person has to live. But that's like saying you shouldnt teach Spanish. It doesn't matter if you speak it fluently. It doesn't matter if you lived in Mexico for ten years. You shouldn't teach it because you aren't Mexican. It's not a valid argument. Unless your a Karen and have stalked her socials to find out her entire life, you don't know her situation. Even more so, wouldn't it be helpful if more hearing people knew sign? Statistically, the amount of asl speakers in the US is drastically low compared to any other language. So wouldn't it help if someone who was deaf was ablento be assisted by a random stranger who happened to know sign? It's almost like your comparing it to to cultural appropriation. Dont deaf people want more representation, especially when it comes to sign? If that's your true veiw on hearing people teaching sign, that's an incredibly messed up point of veiw. Ps, there was no need to leave a comment like that. Be nice, it's basic human decency. It's simple.

Hi! ASL3 and interpretation major, i think you should let other Deaf/native signers teach ASL. It leaves a bad mark on the Deaf community.
