      @@ssjMaximum22Goku You don't have to take them to a dealer. We take our (Australian market) 2010 Nissan Maxima 2.5 V6 to a trusted mechanic. When it comes to the CVT, he sends it to an automatic transmission specialist who do CVT maintenance everyday. Our car recently clicked over 75,000 kms (47k miles) and they said the oil was clean as a whistle when doing the CVT oil change.
      I tell my wife the same two words over and over "mechanical sympathy" When the car is cold, baby it when taking off and driving until it gets warm and avoid really hard off the line starts, take off smoothly before giving it the beans. I am hopeful, I'll get another 10 years and 100,000 kms (62.5k miles) out of it with regular maintenance and mechanical sympathy. The car is just extremely smooth to drive, it really is a joy. I would be heart broken if the transmission gave out. Two neighbours had the same car and both did over 150,000 kms (93k miles) without any CVT transmission issue.

    Hi Scotty, I Iive in the south of Brazil, and have just bought a 2016 Sentra SV with 59k kilometers. It´s my second Sentra as I had a 2008, which I bought it brand new, both with CVT. The first one I used it for 11 years with no problems at all, but I'm a low mileage guy and I sold the 2008 in Nov 2018 with only 50K kilometers. So, it's my first used Sentra and the first thing I´ll do is to check and change the CVT fluid, as a preventive action, everything else in the car seems ok. Back in 2008 I chose Sentra after comparing it with the Corolla, and decided to buy the Sentra because if you buy a Corolla that costs the same as a Sentra you will have to take home a basic model, this is the Toyota price strategy used for the brazilian market. For example, the chepeast Corolla that costs the same as a mid range version of the Sentra does'nt even have a cruise control, and that sucks. So, because of high prices and lack of comfort equipments compared to the Sentra and for the type of use I make with my cars (5k kilometers per year), I chose Sentra that has a better cost benefit, in my case. Thanks for the videos!

      Indeed. Way back in 1984 my car got hammered by a hail storm in Austin TX with egg sized hail stones. Damage repair estimate: $3K on a car that new cost $6K, mostly sheet metal. I was informed that by state law glass and headlights/turn signals/stop lights all had to be intact, no cracks, no holes. So I replaced the windshield and turn signal plastic ($300) and pocketed the rest, driving a car that was now dimpled like a golf ball.

    • @ViolentMLG
      @ViolentMLG 4 роки тому +4

      @@naywahn Its called poor quality control. Its why one person may have a car do 300K miles with minimal issues while other blew the motor at 100K, and another blew the tranny at 50K.
      Its why Toyota is considered so reliable, its not just their engineering, while that is a part of it, any of these companies can engineer a reliable car, its not tough, but having the QUALITY CONTROL to ensure that every engine/transmission that leaves your facility is built to 100% efficiency is another story.
      This is why you'll hear scotty yell "Mercedes are money pits". Yet he'll also say "Unless you live in Germany".
      Same car, same engine/transmission/everything else, so what gives? Well, they're manufactured in Mexico, or America, where the workers do a way worse job at quality control when putting the cars together.
      The standards over here are different than there.
      Toyota rewards people for finding problems, other car brands would probably fire you/ignore it. Just how it goes.
      The location/factory will depend allot on how the cars coming out of that factory are as far as quality goes.
      This is why one EXP may be great, another terrible, but if you average that out, that's a 50/50, not REALLY worth the risk, whereas a Toyota ensures that 100% of customers all get the same quality regardless of factory/location, and therefore, they are considered reliable.
      So to answer your question, if what you're saying is true, its because the cars manufactured in Canada/Europe are held to higher standards in the manufacturing process, though, even in those circumstances, the best Nissan factory still probably doesn't compare to the best Toyota factory.

However the Sentra was dangerous merging onto the highway (65-70 mph speed limit) because it accelerated so slow. The Corolla was in another league and actually fairly quick on the road passing slower traffic. I'm not a lead foot driver either, i was just trying to keep up. The Sentra cvt made alot of noise and took awhile to get moving. The Corolla was just better built and a much better car all around . My only issue was the quick and very responsive steering but i drive a truck and a Honda SUV , so it was just an adjustment.

    Sentras made from 1990 to 2000 were great cars and had reliability and performance comparable to corollas and civics. The 1990 SER was a car and driver top 10 car. Its sad that now it has become a cheaply made bargain basement model!
