Haven't been on your channel in a while but I'm very glad to see you massively stepped up your video work. Also, thank you for the review, this helmet definitely needs it. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for getting in touch. We have reviews lined up for quite a few adventure helmets and will make sure the Shoei Hornet ADV gets the treatment before long. Cheers, Tony
I just bought a Neotec 2, and while I haven't yet had an opportunity to put it into use, so far I am thrilled. I would have thought (and this is a MINOR criticism) they'd put some ridges or stippling on the top vent to help gain purchase when moving it back and forth. I have seen at least one other review where the reviewer had a hard time getting the Pinlock shield installed, as I did. I found it slightly difficult. And noting that they recommend it not be used at night because it only transmits 80% of light, I either have to ride with the visor up or avoid night riding. I'm not about to pull the Pinlock on and off, much less store such a delicate part in my bags and risk damage. Curious about your thoughts on that. I don't like riding at night so I try to avoid it anyway, but sometimes it's unavoidable, and in high humidity and heat, it becomes essential to keep the visor closed to keep the bugs out. I can't believe a user would complain about the initial crack not providing enough air and then complain that one click is too much. Some people just live to complain and have to have something to criticize. Simply adjust your speed faster or slower if that's a big deal! Maybe next iteration, Shoei can put in an electric rheostat dial that gives infinite variability to placate these critics. Sheesh. Great review. I can see with my own eyes that this helmet is going to be infinitely quieter than my 10 year old Shark Evoline, which doesn't even have a chin curtain. I do motorcycle videos and I have struggled immensely with wind noise, and I am certain this is going to make a huge difference in audio quality. 🏍🏍🏍👍😎👉👌🕶
Interesting thoughts, so thanks for getting in touch. I'm convinced the thing about 'don't use the Pinlock at night' is there to avoid legal problems, because (as you've pointed out) fitting one reduces light transmittance below 80% and that's the legal limit for a clear visor. However, I've worn Pinlock-equipped visors at night for nearly 20 years and never found the light transmittance to be an issue, and I'll bet the vast majority of riders with Pinlock visors say exactly the same. The actual issue with Pinlock at night, and this causes some people a real problem, is the way it can make oncoming headlights 'flare' and appear bigger and streakier. Some find this a big issue, but it's never troubled me and there's no way I'd take a Pinlock out for night riding. My advice would be to try using your Pinlock at night to see if either the light transmittance or the flaring headlights is a distraction for you. If it is, the best storage solution I can suggest is a goggle pouch - and make sure it isn't kept with any flex in the wrong direction as this might stop the insert sealing properly when you fit it again. Cheers, Tony
I didn’t know about the pin lock light transmission issue. Thanks. As for night riding; here in this area, in Australia, the kangaroos and wallabies are in near plague proportions. You really can’t ride at night, or a few hours either side of night, without significant risk of injury or death.
Loved my original Neotec and just about to get the Neotec 2. One thing I find an incredible drawback is the integrated Sena pods. We have all dumped Sena for Cardo and are unlikely to ever go back, so why should Shoei try to force us in that direction. Really stinks and is actually stopping me from parting with my cash. Shame on Shoei for getting into bed with such a lousy company as Sena.
There is a delay with the supplier at the moment, but replacement clear visors will be available again in a couple of months' time. Apologies for the hold-up. Cheers, Tony
Good video thanks. Two questions, first given the helmet is designed for sena intercom how would I fit my Cardo packtalk bold? Second, I bought my old shoei helmet from a shop and they swapped the cheek pads out for the correct size, do you offer this service? Thanks
Thanks for getting in touch. Based on feedback from other customers I would say it's unlikely your intercom would fit neatly to this helmet. As for the padding, we do offer a 'fitment' service for Shoei helmets (as well as Arai). As long as the cheekpads are unused, they can be returned to us and exchanged for an alternative size. If you know in advance that you need a different thickness of pad, you can speak to one of our team on the phone and we will fit the size you need to the helmet before it is despatched to you. Our team are on 01205 360099. I hope this helps. Cheers, Tony
@@michaelneve3223 thank you for asking the question for me, will probably do some adjustments to the helmet so I can use the clamp, no sure if I trust the sticky pad
Thanks for the review, though having now purchased a Neotec 2 from you I really wish I hadn't. This isn't a slight on Sportsbikeshop as you have been your usual excellent selves, but to have a helmet which I need to choose between fully open (chinbar up) and fully closed (chinbar and visor closed) is completely useless. Why on earth have Shoei removed the option of riding with the visor open while the chinbar is locked down? I now have an expensive paperweight while I continue to use my old Neotec.😠
If your visor can't be lifted when the chinbar is closed then the helmet is faulty. If you haven't already, please contact our customer support team at support@sportsbikeshop.co.uk, quoting your order number, and they will be able to help you. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop Hi Tony, it's not that it can't be lifted, it's that when lifted, it won't stay open. I've spoken to the support team and will be returning the lid for inspection. As per my initial comment, Sportsbikeshop are awesome, as are Shoei; it just appears to be a problem with the design of the Neotec 2.
I would expect a medium to be the right size for you. My head is 59cm round and I wear size medium in Shoei as large is too loose (though some medium-sized Shoei models are not comfortable over distance for my head, which is an odd squarish shape). Start with a medium and follow the advice in our video about checking for the right fit and comfort... ua-cam.com/video/ypBSvaiQEcs/v-deo.html. An additional tip for flips... try in both open and closed configurations as closing the chinbar pulls the helmet in and makes the fit tighter around the temples. Thanks for getting in touch and I hope you find the right size for you. Cheers, Tony
I just bought a Neotec 2 last week. This weekend I will install my cardo Freecom 2+ in it. My daughter has a Freecom 1+ so she can talk to me when we ride together. These two cardos where 50 euros cheaper together than this single Sena set with outdated technology. Dont know how Sena bought their way into these helmets but it is not for the consumers benefit.
Interesting times ahead here as the forthcoming new helmet safety standard (ECE 22.06) will demand that helmets are tested with accessories fitted. So to approve their units for all lids, comms manufacturers face €275 million a year each in testing costs (their estimate). Comms manufacturers say that will put the power in the hands of the helmet manufacturers as they will be able to choose an integrated comms system supplier and make it part of the testing. The comms industry have lobbied against the changes to ECE 22.06 in public - and that includes Sena, who seem to have the most tie-ups with helmet manufacturers at the moment.
@@sportsbikeshop They should make these pockets universal so all manifacturers can install their version of the headset and battery, No idea how Sena lobbied their way in. But I will not spend 300 euros on a single Sena when I can buy two Cardo Freecoms for 250 total.
Just 1 comment, way overpriced. I just bought 1. No better than my old Noland N104. The lower vent blows air in your eyes. The chin bar comes up to high and blocks your vision looking down. It will be my last Shoei . I have to wear ear plugs. But it does fit me pretty good.
