I look around and see the homeless here it’s getting colder here the shelters here are full last year a man froze to death because he got his wheel chair stuck! We need to focus on supporting this technology This is truly life changing! It could give people hope!

I agree this tech has huge potential, but the driving force behind a lot of iasues with insufficient shelter space and housing shortages is politics, not lack of resources.

There are several other San Diego reservations that could sure use your help getting quality homes built for their people. Some have casinos that would help bear the costs and a few others that poorer and in even greater need for housing. Moranga, Barrona, the Apline reservation, their smaller reservations farther up around Campo/Jacumba

It's funny, I look at the comments on here and people are talking about building for the homeless. But if you look at construction in general, we don't have the people needed to keep up with housing demands let alone get caught up AND keep up. I see this as at the very least as a supplemental to the general construction sector. Think about it, we have fewer people in that industry than previous years and lots of the existing construction work force will be retiring or already have an only work part time on projects. The younger generations are being brought up to look at this type of work as a dirty four letter word. In other words people look down on the people doing this work and we're having trouble finding people to do it now. As we are in many sectors, pretty much anything that you have to do physically and or get your hands dirty, people now a days don't want to do it. This might be part of an answer going forward.

Whatever "Lavacrete" is it's likely 90% sand. Chances are if you dig a foot into your land it's also almost all sand (I know for sure in Florida it is). What if a machine like this could make/mix the aggregate using the on site dig?

Great question hopefully they’ll release info on that soon. it was really cool when Tesla laid out their plan for superchargers around the nation then saw it through, it would be great for people to have an estimated date when the tech will be available in their region.
Look for a local builder. This is not an industry where one builder will make it. There soon will be thousands of builders doing this it is not exactly a revolutionary technology actually.

These are awesome! Are they also earthquake resistant?? These would be wonderful for California because they're fire resistant too.
Concrete domes are better for fire, probably for earthquakes too. The arch or dome is the strongest structure. California should have lots of concrete domes. There's companies that do that too already.

Hemp has been suppressed for 80+ years. Its the US CORPSORATION

3D printed home, Tesla roof & batterie wall, spacex starlink with acsess to Ehang atonamous drone and you could live anywhere. Could a helicopter fly the machine to the top of a mountain eg ?
Yes but getting the concrete up there would be a bigger challenge
@IAN G Concrete can't be poured anywhere near freezing. I know a company in Canada TAM has many projects they've done in BC that are holding up well so far. Only with time can we truly know the longevity of these projects for certain. Estimates currently range from 75-125 years.

Make a video speaking to actual costs, site requirements, cost of finishing the inside to move in ready. Realistic cost disclosure is needed, not just promos of process.

Icon is only pursuing larger projects at the moment not single homes for individuals and the homes are quite expensive one is currently listed for $450k. In order to make cheap housing enough homes have to be built to shift the supply curve. Houses sold on the open market will go to the highest bidder.
When can I buy one of the machine?
Icon doesn’t sell their machine. Maybe one day they might but it’s not in their current plans. Right now they’re developing a printer for NASA to use on the mood.

Visually it's an acceptable house. They could've gone freaky weird, but somehow the viewer should see some things that can only be "printed".
Big things are coming from your venture, now get the economy of scale into the cost reduction mindset... that will help with adoption.
which are the main softwers use in the field to make a project ?
You need a slicer to turn your 3D file into a print path and each printer has different custom software packages that they integrate.

Homes aren’t like other products every region has different costs associated so it’s extremely challenging to have a standard rate. The industry is so new it hasn’t matured to that stage yet but it will.

Sure but it would look terrible unless you have the steadiness of a surgeon and the strength of a gorilla. Your arms would get tired very quickly because concrete is very heavy.

Being in a community run by a non profit helps a lot I believe.
Will this work in a humid climate?
Works better in humid climates because the concrete cures healthier that way
Is this only available in Texas? How about California?
In the major urban areas, this wouldn't be as helpful in California. First off, good luck getting these structures permitted as you'll have multiple activist groups, busy bodies, and unions showing up to protest at city hall. Also, the land use regulations are absurd so land prices have massively inflated. So this would be cheaper than other housing construction methods theoretically but it wouldn't fix the primary drivers of housing cost growth in the area: crippling over regulation and people having far, far too much say on what other people do with their own property.

I'm sorry, but the concrete dome is best for hurricanes, fires, and earthquakes. They should be printing dome homes.

Big big problem with investors there end the sustainability of this because they want to profit more and more every year eventually this is going to be useful the house aren’t going to be accessible this is only way to leaving construction workers without job
People don't need a house in the middle of nowhere moving constantly to different centers somewhere else to get the basic services they need.
it is the urban development integrating all services needed within walking distance that sucks, not stereotype flat house ownership. The homes parking lot... makes no sense.
You have to use brain to reduce dramatically car usage and car driving time to people expanding proximity opportunuties to increase quality of life sparing useless waste of environment and land either, sparing everyday living consumption of resources.

Construction costs vary immensely by region.
I understand perfectly! If we wait for demand balance it will take 100 years. If I know that you are making a house for ex 50$ / sqmetre than everybody wants house from you?! Right?
In easter europe the corect price for sqmetre is about 100-150 euro. The developers are selling for 500 and up. What is the price for 3 d. It may be as low as 30$/m2

My great concern is that the companies will build a house for 10k and sell it for 10% off the actual house prices, e.g. 450k instead of 500k!!!!!
Homes don’t usually sell for what they cost to build they sell for whatever the highest bidder will pay. The only way to truly change the cost of housing is to build so many units that there is a shift in the entire supply and demand curve.

@Jimmy Bond a 3D printed house costs far more than 10k. That is a common misconception.
I applaud the cause, but homelessness and available, affordable homes are not exclusively connected. Well built affordable homes, is communities designed to help people transition to home ownership, and the provide support for the variety of other issues is only a beginning. Hopelessness, and self esteem may improve wit a home, but once difficulties arise the coping response that initially led to giving up, resurface. This is a social problem more than a physical resource issue. But, our current real estate development culture only exacerbates this problem.
