In all honesty, black people who say they don’t like country, rock, etc…. Only have that mindset because these genres and a few more were taken by and mainstreamed by whites. Had they been dominated by blacks, we would love it. It would be more common seeing us in these genres and wouldn’t sound weird as some describe. So I invite everyone who reads this comment to educate yourselves on the American genres and who created them. And how our genres brought life to all ethnic groups across this world to showcase their art.
I disagree with part of your statements… country stations don’t play black artist. 96% of all must played by black artists on these stations are the same three black men who all say for YEARS stations would not play their music… Those same stations still won’t play the black lady who won best country album two years ago… so it’s not all just about black people saying we don’t like country… that genre is intentionally designed and promoted as “not for black people”….and these stations are very Trumper-ish so even I avoid those stations and I grew up in SC listening to country

Beyonce has gone back to the 70's where we were accustomed to double albums and longer experimental grooves (Parliament, Funkadelic, Prince, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac etc). When people say 4 minute+ songs are too long it's because they've been trained to listen to shorter songs of the early ahts where we began to lose real musicianship and intentional music. By the early 80's MTV/VH1 ruined the musical format b/c it became about short music videos they could play in heavy rotation quickly and that carried over into radio. It's sad to see us lose the ability to appreciate full-bodied music with longer tracks. This album is a masterpiece.
Yes I noticed that listening to younger reactors. Some of the best albums back in the day had amazing long songs that really allowed you to get into the musicianship and storytelling. Bohemian Rhapsody is almost 6 min and EVERY second is important.
Blackbird was written by Paul McCarty from the Beatles to encourage black girls and women in America during the school integration of the Little Rock 9. It’s very appropriate for all black women to be singing it especially as they all are artists faced with challenges and criticism for choosing to doing Country music.
Great reaction! Beyoncé has definitely gotten her Prince on these last 2 albums Renaissance and Cowboy Carter! Prince’s influence is very strong as well as Tina Turner and Minnie Ripperton. Classic Album 🔥
I'm glad she didn't attempt to go the stereotypical route of country. She did country music her own way and incorporated other genres that country music has influenced (e.g. soft rock and folk).
Sup guys! This album was supposed to come out before Act I: Renaissance (Beyoncé is doing a trilogy album with three acts and this is Act II. She interpret this as taking back what’s ours with music Black People created so maybe Act:III is Rock & Roll) but she felt like the world needed to dance after coming out a pandemic being that this album was very emotional but started to get happier at the end however at the end of the song Amen, you here a alien space ship taking off and that leads into Renaissance and you guys should listen to it cause it’s also is a no skip album. Really enjoyed this review!
Y'all reaction had me laughing and hollering. I can see the impact Beyonce is making with this incredibly experimental music as well as celebrating icons and the young Black country artists featured in this masterpiece of an album. I truly haven't stopped listening to Cowboy Carter since its release. So much passion and purpose and celebration of music and artists because at the end of the day it's for the love of music shared by everyone.

Like Beyoncé said herself, this isn't a country album. The album is very much deliberately asking questions about genre, and critiquing the idea of genre itself - how it limits and pigeon holes artists and can hinder their creativity as well as limit listeners from expanding their horizons. I spoke to some Country purists who said while they thought 'CC' was a creative album that people shouldn't be surprised when it doesn't win the big prizes at the CMA/Grammys for best Country album as it's more than likely to be awarded to a traditionally Country record. Many will label 'CC' a Pop album. They said they're not looking forward to the moment where it doesn't win or doesn't get on the ballot for Country and social media tantrums and think pieces start rolling out. They can see the controversy coming already. We know if that was Beyoncé's goal she would have made the album in Nashville, with Nashville writers and producers and ingratiated herself into the Nashville infrastructure (like Post Malone & Lana Del Rey are doing this year before they drops _their_ Country albums). That wasn't Beyoncé's goal tho, hence why she said it's a Beyoncé album, not a Country album.
Black Bird is cover of the beetles song. It is about the Black women of the civil rights movements specifically the women of the little rock 9. Paul McCartney of the Beatles wrote it after hearing about the civil rights stuff going on in the States. Bird is a colloquial term for a woman/girl in the UK
American Requiem {mass grave or burial}" funeral is laying to rest the past that we have suffered as a nation and now moving to a new way of life. "Black Bird" was written by Paul McCartney ( Beatles) during the 60's civil rights for Black Women. The extra vocals are 4 current young black female country singers that have all paid homage to Bey in their songs and or interviews. "Daughter" is following the don't mess with me or mine vibe from "Jolene" {original Dolly Parton song} and having fantasy's that she needs to ask forgiveness for that she then sings an Italian Opera (Lost Love). Then she followed it up with "Spaghettii" saying She's going to handle whatever comes her way and not letting the industry play her. Willie Jones and Shaboozey are new age Black male country artist. Willie Nelson is a pioneer in folk country style music and is known for supporting and singing about unity. Post Malone is doing a country album too. "Oh Louisiana" is a sample from Chuck Berry. Linda Martell 1st Black female country artist to hit mainstream popularity and sing at the Grand Ole Opry. This album is so important for the culture, at least to this Black Nashville Native Girl! Also the horse on the cover is a "Lipizzan Horse" They are born Greyish Black and lose their pigmentation over time.
Why don’t y’all like long songs. Because nobody is making long songs anymore and that’s sad. Most songs are under three minutes some are even under a minute and are considered a song. Why can’t we get back to when albums were over 60 minutes long. You see an album of today with 20 tracks and it’s only 40 minutes long. 🤦🏽♂️ but hey that’s what this generation loves Their attention span is short.🤷🏽♂️
We were both born in the 90s lol . We grew up listening to long songs & both love long songs ! Songs that are long nowadays don’t hit the same as when they used to & that’s just a fact . All the longer songs on this album were great as we said , but longer songs just aren’t our preference in todays age in music !
@@SurroundSoundBoys I got three younger siblings that was born in the late 90s. To all the siblings born in the 80s with me. And you’re right they don’t make music like they used to. Exactly! This new era of music listeners are so impatient. They would die listening to Prince’s 1999, SOTT or Emancipation albums.😂
