Planetary Video Processing

- I get asked a lot about stacking images for planetary astrophotography. Here is a quick video showing how to use 3 free software programs to stack video frames to get a nice planet image. I don’t really know how to use a screen capture program along with recording my voice. I just set my phone up on a tripod. Forgive me for the low tech set up I used for this.
There are a lot of options in these programs but I just use a few of the options for planetary processing to keep it simple for new users. Feel free to learn more about other options as you get comfortable with the software. Check out UA-cam videos of each software to dig into them deeper.
As you can see in this example, you can pretty easily take a video file you captured of a planet and run it through all three software programs to get a nice clear planet image in about 10 minutes. You can take the image and use photo editing software if desired to try and tweak it a bit. I do this sometimes with the Apple Photos software on my computer.
I use a MacBook Pro running Parallels so I can use the PC software.
The 3 programs are:
PIPP
AutoStakkert3
Registax6
Excellent video - Thanks for sharing this.
