My 3rd Great Grand Uncle Riel Plummer was with the 11th Missouri fighting there. He was shot there and would die in a hospital months later. I got to visit in 2019. It is an amazing place with a great staff!
My GG Grandfather, Constitution York, fought at Corinth.

Earl Van Dorn - what a legend
We visited the Corinth Interpretive Center in 2021. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and knowledgeable. They’ve done an amazing job building up the center while respecting the site and those who fought there. Company G of the 12th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, composed primarily of men from and around my hometown of Du Quoin, Illinois, helped to defend Battery Powell and, in the end, finally recaptured the redan.

Awesome road trip you guys are on! Wish I could be at the table when you talk at dinner. I love how Parker uses all the middle names of the characters. It's a great Interpretative Center, the sidewalk up to it is strewn with bronze items that soldiers would cast off during a retreat till you come upon the soldiers at the door in life size relief. I'm wondering when you have actually filmed as huge tornadoes went through that area last night. Stay safe and looking forward to the rest.

I’m lucky enough to have in-laws in that exact area who lived just down the street from Robinett by the “White House” and now live just across the railroad from Battery F.
I love this series. This is great as I am getting ready for another Battlefield vacation in 2022.

Was lucky enough to have General Parker Hills for a tour of the Vicksburg Campaign about 20 years ago....and also Tim Smith for an April 6 morning to dusk guided tour of Shiloh
Good to see them both again.
Shiloh Corninth Battlefield site is very well done. Among small battlefields in the Civil War this the best I have been too. Small being relative. Not Antietam or Vicksburg size battlefields. I also have a soft spot for Wilson's Creek in Mo. I volunteered there Under Rick Hatcher.
My 3rd GGF fought in Co A 2nd MS Cav. He named one of his sons Vandorn James. I was always so curious to know why. I highly recommend visiting this site. There is so much more Civil War history to be talked about in MS. If you get a chance to check out Davis Bridge, do so. It is very well preserved. There is also a cannon that fell into the Hatchie River (along with it's tackle and horses) that has not been found yet.
I've enjoyed watching and listening to yall on this trip. Learned so much more about what went on at these battles then what your actually taught

The steel inserts that Col. Rodgers wore inside his uniform blouse are in the Wisconsin State Historical Society collection. It has a two-inch hole punched through the right side insert. I've not only seen them, I've held them in my hands.
I was at Corinth years ago, before the interpretive center. But I did see the replica of Battery Robinette. Hope to get back that way again sometime, combined with another trip to Shiloh.

You can see it in the background in this video next to the museum. I don't understand why they didn't film it up close to give their viewers a glimpse of what the Union works looked like.
The Old Tishomingo County Courthouse Museum has some Civil War artifacts, and there's a sign located at the former battle site . It's situated near a small hill where the remnants of a hotel still stands. Hopefully the Trust will be able to work with the city of Iuka to save a portion of the battlefield.

I don’t know how this popped up on my feed, but I find it very interested! I now live in Seattle, but I was born and raised in Corinth, went to elementary school right across from the Interpretive Center and remember when it was being built! So fascinating!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

Guys I love your videos! You draw your viewers in! But please could you guys go over the yazoo pass expedition! It's doesn't have the attention it deserves. It was Grant's first attempt to take vicksburg but he ultimately failed do to general Van Dorn and General Pemberton.
I would like to hear more about the doctor you say killed Van Dorn.
i was born in corinth in 1952 live around rienzi went to biggersville school graduate in 1971. i think the shiloh battle is the second largest battle lot of people lost there lives.
I worked on a film for the visitors center.
What a disaster spot Spring Hill, TN was for the Confederacy. A year and a half after Earl Van Dorn was shot to death there John Bell Hoods flanking movement that would have cut off John Schofield's retreating army stopped for the night just short of the Columbia Turnpike. Needless to say, Schofield's army escaped right past the sleeping elements of Hood's troops which led to the disastrous slaughter the Confederates endured at Franklin the next day.
The real question here is who was taking of Van Dorns widow after his unfortunate demise. Next on Jerry Springer….

The Corinth Battlefield and museum is really sub-par. They just never did a good job with it. The museum does not have many civil war relics.
I believe that's why they call it an Interpretative Center rather than a museum, it's designed to tell the story plus it houses a research library room. The main civil war relic is indeed the Battery Robinett itself! Not many museums elsewhere have their own redan.

What evidence do the presenters have for their allegations that Van Dorn's murderer was tried and acquitted in Meridian, Mississippi? Also, what evidence do you have that the Confederates gave Dr. Peters a horse to escape, inferring their acquiescence? I have enjoyed all the videos on your "Western swing," but feel you need to control the somewhat "outrageous" false statements which everyone familiar with civil War history recognizes. Other than that, you are doing a great job.
