These vids are maaaaad chill. I came to the channel for the Persona 5 locations irl, and stayed to watch every life in Japan vid. When I heard way of life in the vids, I knew it would be good
I appreciate it a lot! Thanks so much! My brain always matches music with video, so I'm glad you appreciate it!
I can understand, and actually feel much of what you are saying in your video. I decided to retire early to complete the two remaining items on my "bucket list for life". In 2020, I was supposed to depart the US for a long-term stay as a resident in Japan. Unfortunately, things were not easy. After enduring the cancellation of 4 rescheduled flights during a two-week period of time due to Covid-19 causing havoc with the airlines between the US and Japan, I was finally scheduled for the last remaining airline operating into Tokyo. Then three days before departure, Japan finally closed her borders at the end of March to all foreigners.
Besides requiring the cancellation of my apartment lease in Tokyo. and the unwinding of the quarantine arrangements that I made to take my dog into Japan, I then needed to work on accommodations in the US. Needless to say, it was probably the most stressful time of my life when I had taken all the complicated steps that were necessary in moving to Japan. After a week of unwinding and reflecting, I decided to head off to the second item on my bucket list - moving to South Africa to volunteer for at least a year on a wildlife reserve to save endangered animals.
Long story short, as Japan finally reopened, after a year and a half in SA, I was able to travel to Japan in February of this year. The first 7 months have been divided between Osaka and Kyoto, and I recently moved to Tokyo. I had only planned to spend a year in Japan. But there is so much that I am enjoying as a resident, for which all my previous trips here as a short-term tourist was just not enough, that I am planning to extend my stay for two more years.
My grandfather loved to travel, and he instilled that same passion in me every chance we had when I was growing up. My first trip to Japan was accompanying him on a business trip before I was 5 years of age. I was so fascinated with the country from that initial introduction, that I even took Japanese for my required foreign language requirement in secondary school and university. The other thing that gramps taught me was to live my life without having any regrets about "not" doing something that I really want. It certainly sounds to me like you are doing the same.
Thank you so much for sharing your story, it means a lot! It seems we both waited a long time to finally come here, and I'm glad you're following your Grandpa's advice, those are some real words to live by.
I hope I can inspire more people to live that way and share their own stories.
for 4-5 days I've been binging Persona content and saw your Persona locations video. I think we share the same feelings, and it's great to see people with dreams parallel to yourself so I'll probably binge on your channel like my other favorite "Japan vlog" channels as well lol. But yeah I'm happy that you did make your dreams come true. I have always loved Nintendo and its games like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc. from childhood and all that gaming stuff. Then after I grew up, watching anime and Japan vlogs, loving and enjoying seeing Japan and its culture, society, foods, places, etc. with a more mature and ambitious brain, my admiration for Japan turned into a lifelong dream of living in Japan, especially Tokyo... I hope I'm going to accomplish that goal just like you.
I'm happy to hear that! I'm actually really close to releasing P3 IRL, so I think you'll get more of that Persona itch scratched in the coming week or so.
The thing you realize when your dreams come true, is that you have to maintain them. I've been learning the hard way how much work it takes to do so, and I hope you can go through the same process in the future! Japan is a really great place with a huge learning curve (even with a bunch of research). Wishing you luck!
@@KozyKotatsuPerfect! I actually didn't play any Persona but just like all the others, enjoy listening to their music and you made me learn more of those good songs, thanks for that. Also, I already binge-watched your videos and it's been 3 months since your last great video, so I was like "damn I wanna watch more" cuz you gave great inspiration to me also, but I guess you were preparing for the good :)
You're right, It's a lifelong journey, and it shouldn't end when I arrive there, I will keep your advice and videos in my heart. Thanks for responding
