One of my favorite riffs ever since I first heard it in the animated movie of the same name circa 1982. I never worked too hard to figure out how to play it 100% accurately, nice to finally see how I was off a bit on that little "busy lick" part.
You and Marty do such a great job breaking it down so it's easy to follow.

On the chorus when going from the D to the G chords (about 7:15 in the video) try using the G an octave higher in the fifth position, like almost the same as a D chord on the 5th fret, but with 3 notes, but the last one s 1 fret higher. Much like the first 2 notes of a D in the first position, but with the added root note.
For the G chord at the 5th position, they would be A string 5th fret, D string 7th fret, and G string 8th fret. This chord is used in the break too instead of the D and G strings at the 12th fret you are using (7:01). Here is what they look like, sorry, kinda hard to do a good example just by typing, but you should get the idea.

These chords are used a lot in hard rock music yet not many people use them or even know them. They give you the bite needed with your power 5th chords and are easy to master. Try them out!

Help I'm having a hard time with the amp settings. It always comes out too distorted but if I turn it down it doesn't pack the punch.
That depends. Clearer is better a lot. Not for everything but it can be deceiving. Sometimes a lot of the sound has to do with how the bass and guitar sound together.
