I'm so glad I watched this video a few weeks ago. At the time I didn't practice it, but yesterday I was forced to learn how to do this while out on the road. I'd've been flipped off my bike by a pot hole if I hadn't bunny hopped over it. Thanks GCN
this is brilliant stuff, what made you guys think of doing this is incredible. Warms my heart that people like you get to do the things you like and amazing a load of people at the same time, keep at it!
So I just tried this, and it worked! Mind you, I am lifting off about 3 cm from the ground, but I was finally able to get both wheels off. For those having a lot of trouble like I did, I tried for a long time with my heavy commuter and I was never able to lift up the back wheel. So I put on some running shoes and tried on my light road bike (without clipping in) and I was able to lift the back wheel fairly easily.
To Buny hop you need to jump yourself first, the trick is to pull the bike up with you. Front wheel is easy just pull up, the back wheel will then lift if you push the bars forward and up - away from the center of gravity of the bike. If you do this right the peddles will rise under your feet as you pull them up (even flat pedals). Key point if you have any weight pushing down on you pedals the back wheel will not lift!!! Honed the skill many years ago on bmx. Clips do allow you to pull the back up with your feet, essential if you're trying to hop with paniers!
Lean forward, make sure your chest is ahead of your handlebars, then scoop up your pedals with you feet. Basically to get this technique, put one foot on the ground and kick your pedal backwards and the front wheel should come up. Then do it with both feet.
I never did it before, but thought I could hop a curb easily - I should've watched this video first because I really screwed up. I'll practice, taking baby steps, until I'm ready. Thank you.
Both of you are doing it wrong, it’s the arrow keys, get rid of them, the true button is cntrl+F8 and then you can open the dev... wait no press F12 on browser for inspect element and put Game.Earn ({number you want}) And there’s the infinite xp you get The alternative to that is pressing Win+G on a windows os and opening gamebar and recording your screen The other alternate is pressing Q
This is awesome! I really need someone to break this down for me. Everyone just kept telling they just do it and couldn't explain it. With this video I got it in 10 minutes, and I was able to clear a tree stump.
this amazes me in two ways, one Martyn is so young, and walking!!! Second, the technique will get you nowhere on a Mtb except the ER, if it were ever tried on the trails.
If anyone is having trouble with the back wheel, make sure your shoes have good grip on the pedals, and right after you lift the front wheel, try leaning forward a little and doing the scoop motion shown in the video.
its pretty easy, just you have pedals that gives some grip then. i use to tilt my feets front words and press them to the pedals and then its just to lift your legs with some power! and lifting the hole bike is like doing a wheelie and doing the back wheel thing at the same time! you will have a lot of funn! :D
instead of leaning forward when you have the freontwheel in the air, try to use the scooping technique to pull the upward with your feets. That will help to jump higher and land on both wheels instead of landing only frontwheel (it can hurt your wrist). My bunnyhop record is 120cm. (On a trialsbike)
Martyn is such a legend, he can pull off cool tricks thought he's using half of his body.....and I am unable to lift the rear wheel although I try alot
Thanks Martin, worked on it and cracked - pretty well I think - but like your video my movements are two distinct movements. What I'm struggling with is getting the rear wheel up whilst the front wheel is still in the air - any tips on how to move to this next stage?
Rob Pratt - think of it as a smooth process. Get the two individual parts down. Work on it as a process - lift the front wheel and as it's in the air try and bring the rear up. If you can do it in two parts, you can do it as one, it'll just be a matter of practice.
cool. I learned to bunny hop by lifting the handle bars and getting momentum then swinging them front-down to catapult the back wheel in the air. This may not be as safe if the front tire digs in to something first when you land, but scooping with the feet makes me feel like my knees are going into the ground and my chest into the handle bars.
maybe it's international translation? but that is more a "Bronco" move. As the animal does (youtube bucking broncos to see) that is where the motion became the name of the move. with both wheels temporarily of the ground together (front first) like the animal does when trying to send the human off him in competitions. I myself am a New Yorker, but I am aware Wild Horse competitions competitions are big in the States. I think of a bunny hop as pulling strait up, both wheels together, like the big jump shown in the video. Does not need to be that far but both wheels. Bronco= front then back, both temporarily in air together. great video, thanks for another. I have watched all of them. 👍👍
just go out and practice, once you get it it's pretty simple, but it takes a lot of practice to get there, the main idea though is to point your toes a bit down and do a scooping motion with your feet i guess. Idk it'll make sense once you start practicing, but it is very possible to do without clippons
Thanks for the video! Can you do one on how to get massive air doing a Bunny Hop? I have no problem going up curbs and what not but in the Road Bike Party 2 video, y'all are hopping over Tennis Court nets!
The thing is, if you're using clips you end up with bad technique as you're just jumping and lifting the bike up under you. It is much easier, but it's not a real bunnyhop that allows you to get much more air to get over larger obstacles.
We should probably point out that this is part one - teaching you the basic technique of doing two things and putting them togteher into one motion. Part two - getting bigger with bunnyhops - will be out soon.
First time I tried it I didn't do the back wheel step I just already knew how to list the front wheel then I just went for the whole thing and got a pretty good cut on my leg from my feet coming down and missing the pedal
you dont need fixed shoes to bunnyhop. it works with all kinds of pedals. important is to put ur body weight onto the handle bar. bend your toes downwards a bit and push back and up. then bend your knees slightly to give it more air. dont forget to put your bodyweight on the handlebar else you can slip off the pedals and hurt yourself.
I ride a 26'er turned cyclo-crossbike, weighs around 30 lbs. Trying to lift the front just makes it slam back down and lifting the rear feels heavy. Should I modify my stance?
A bunny hop is when both wheels come off the ground at the same time staying level throughout the process. And a J-Hop is when you lift the front wheel and push forward to get back wheel off the ground with the front.. J-hopping is much easier.
Yay i got off the ground!! still very small jump but it feels good!! I am trying to learn this to be able to avoid pot holes or other unavoidable hazards (God forbid, touch wood!!) =D
Don't get cocky though guys, I did going up a curb on my road bike but messed up and smacked the back wheel on the curb and split the inner tube and tyre. Slight scuff on the rim too. Even for a cheap tyre and inner tube from decathlon its still annoying to pay for something that could have been avoided
Good video although it really isn't difficult. I just taught myself when I was about 10 after seeing someone do it on TV. Mind you, I have put myself in hospital a few times by copying things I've seen done on TV. :-D
It's all about practice. A 29er is probably a bit more difficult to get airborne than most bikes, but once you've cracked it you'll be good. If you're having lots of trouble, I'd start off by learning how to get each wheel off the ground. Once you're able to get your back wheel in the air, you should then be able to put front and back lifts together and bunnyhop.
Technological_Alexander it is all about technique and training. Rear wheel should be liftes by pressure to handlebars. once they are up (with front wheel) you should press back on them while putting your weight forward. Your back wheel comes up naturally. Correct me if i am explaining it wrong, but that's the way i jump for quite a long time.
you said i can do this on any bike but i still want to know , can i do this on my folding bike , wont it like fall apart , or fold when i'm on the air ?
He says that you may not lift up your front and back wheel at the same time, but what if you, like in a bike race (reaching over 45Km/h), have to jump over something? I just lift up both wheels...
i bunny hop through the city with my roadbike all the time. Now im thinking of gettign me a fullCarbon-fork. Im afraid the carbon-fotk is not as robust as the aluminium-fork. should i be afraid of?
@Ezio, I don't think he is using shoes with cleats in this video...it appears he is just using normal shoes with SPD-SL pedals. That's probably a better (safer) way to practice initially if you have clip-less pedals.
I came to this video knowing how to hop with clips (duh, just jump), but I also knew that it's kinda cheating and quite ineffective. Very informative, let alone explained by the legend himself riding the Dogma. Many thanks!
Sam McEwen i just got it yesterday, so lt the noob tell you, find a foot that is comfy to lift, lean forward a little and push into that one pedal, try to scoop it. it is hard to explain. lean forward and push into pedals
stand on the ground, try to lift your bike with your foot. then when you go outside, lean forward on the bike and try to repeat that motion. beforehand i smoked some weed and when was going home i just randomly got the motion down
Thanks! GCN, look please at subtitles section in Video Manager! Added many translations to your videos including this one, but only one was published :D Cheers!
Wait...This isnt counter strike...
lol
☺☺☺☺☺☺

im so sad, he liked biking so much Respect martyn
Logan Lessard what happened to him???
and he still does
He enjoys life in other ways.
Don't be sad he still enjoys biking and you can often see him over on gmbn. It's just that he can't pedal anymore.
this is brilliant stuff, what made you guys think of doing this is incredible. Warms my heart that people like you get to do the things you like and amazing a load of people at the same time, keep at it!
1 question only...where is bunny hop in this vid!?
Roflmaol
I don't always bunny hop, but when I do, it's on a Pinarello Dogma.
Exactly. Give me the damn bike lol
Everything less than an dogma F8 wouldn't be really cool;)
So I just tried this, and it worked! Mind you, I am lifting off about 3 cm from the ground, but I was finally able to get both wheels off.

Very helpful and clarifying comment, thanks!
i can jump with the front wheel very good, but for me it seems impossible to jump with the rear wheel.
Malabubo "Random Videos" try pushing your feet backwards on the pedals. Get the individual phases nailed and then try combining them.
#Global Cycling Network Thanks for the tip, maybe my bike is to heavy?
Malabubo "Random Videos" It's very possible, I couldn't get a bike that was bought from wal-mart into the air but it was easy to lift up my new bike.
hey kid im from England me and my mates have our own track built out of mud all you have to do when you've lifted the front is lean forward and hop
Lean forward, make sure your chest is ahead of your handlebars, then scoop up your pedals with you feet. Basically to get this technique, put one foot on the ground and kick your pedal backwards and the front wheel should come up. Then do it with both feet.

It's very nice to see u recovered again!
do i have to bind mwheeldown to +jump?
or are you doing it with space
You're overcomplicating it. Just press the A button.
Both of you are doing it wrong, it’s the arrow keys, get rid of them, the true button is cntrl+F8 and then you can open the dev... wait no press F12 on browser for inspect element and put
Game.Earn ({number you want})

The other alternate is pressing Q
@@Crumbaa what
vuki, just press Q... it’s earlier... take it from my experience
Lots of good info. I put dates paste in a bag as u do with home made gels. Has so many benefits for hard physical labor and for being out in the heat
Love him
This is awesome! I really need someone to break this down for me. Everyone just kept telling they just do it and couldn't explain it. With this video I got it in 10 minutes, and I was able to clear a tree stump.
can't wait to wacth part two!
Would have helped to see his whole body when showing the back wheel part.
David Dodel ikr but still nicea video

I love thz! I'm a big fan of martyn ashton! Please GCN, make more videos on how to make a stunt with a road bike. like Martyn did.
Just love the pinarello action, like me using my colnago for teaching trials!!! Respect
Thank you for simple and effective lesson.
Great Work
Where do you train guys? your video landscapes are awesone, hope someday i can train somewhere like that.
Thanks Martin, worked on it and cracked - pretty well I think - but like your video my movements are two distinct movements. What I'm struggling with is getting the rear wheel up whilst the front wheel is still in the air - any tips on how to move to this next stage?

I almost jumped off my bike switching back to normal pedals from clip pedals.
Thanks for the tip with t-shirt!
Finally figured it out! I can now do the basic Bunny hop. now to get more air...
I saw a guy do it a few days ago and was thoroughly impressed. He told me it's called bunny hop. It's just like yoga. Looks easy when others do it.
I'm bmx rider and watching this for me is like WTF
ikr? XD
Ikr ? What it means?
i was sat here like >.> dafuq?
Mikołaj Szczepka I know right*
Thanks ;)
cool. I learned to bunny hop by lifting the handle bars and getting momentum then swinging them front-down to catapult the back wheel in the air. You lucky I can’t even lift my front wheel
What Tsurani Tsurani said - Five Ten Freeriders. They're a great mountain bike/trials shoe, with a super-sticky rubber sole.
I learned it in this 2 months and like you said, the most important part is scooping your pedals
The thing is, if you're using clips you end up with bad technique as you're just jumping and lifting the bike up under you. It is much easier, but it's not a real bunnyhop that allows you to get much more air to get over larger obstacles.

Martin on fireeeeee
In my country is very important to learn Bunny Hop, i live in México and there are a lots of holes in the road.
great video!!!
Peter sagan's bunny hop is awesome
Very nice bunny hop
Its the legend himself!!!
First time I tried it I didn't do the back wheel step I just already knew how to list the front wheel then I just went for the whole thing and got a pretty good cut on my leg from my feet coming down and missing the pedal
Miss U Martyn Ashton.

So for small things like curbs and cockroaches, I can bhop without doing a manual motion?
We miss you Martyn, get well soon mate!

i cant scoop the back wheel up, but when my friend tried on my bike he nailed it, any suggestions
Are clipless pedals or clips&straps necessary for lifting the rear wheel? I can't find a way to do it on just flat pedals
worked for me
Hi I have a cube analog 29er 2014 I cannot do this bunny hop please help.
I don't get what u mean by scooping
Technological_Alexander kinda pushing back and up with your pedals...
I still cant bunny hop i can only lift my front wheel a bit. Could my bike be too heavy
Global Cycling Network do we need a special pedal(the kind that have hook on it) to do an bunny hop
Gary Yeh usualy no need for special pedals. Most pros recommend to train this with a pair of usual ones, because u may cheat with SPDs :)
Technological_Alexander it is all about technique and training. Rear wheel should be liftes by pressure to handlebars. once they are up (with front wheel) you should press back on them while putting your weight forward. Your back wheel comes up naturally. Correct me if i am explaining it wrong, but that's the way i jump for quite a long time.
nice tuto
Legend
Any tips for fixed gear bikes?
Martin Ashton is my idol
I have tried bunny hoping onto curves but when I bring my rear wheel on I put my weight down on it which has led to 2 punctures in a row!
Does bunny hopping can damage the headset of the bike? or any parts of the bike?
Thanks, is the 29er a hard bike to do tricks on because I find it very hard. Or is it the wrong bike to do tricks on? Cheers
You'll definitely be able to bunnyhop on a 29er, it's probably just a matter of time and practice :)
Is It not bad for the tyres?
you said i can do this on any bike but i still want to know , can i do this on my folding bike , wont it like fall apart , or fold when i'm on the air ?

Can you do this with full pressured tires or do I have to go down to 40 psi or so?
i bunny hop through the city with my roadbike all the time.
How do you bunny hop side ways. Like up and down kerbs
Hey, if we don't have clipless shoes, how do we lift our rear wheel?
I came to this video knowing how to hop with clips (duh, just jump), but I also knew that it's kinda cheating and quite ineffective. Very informative, let alone explained by the legend himself riding the Dogma. Many thanks!
hi how can I curve my feet to lift the back with normal flat pedals. I can lift the front but its getting the back to lift
For bunny hop you have to put your weight backwards and raise handles and jump.
Are bunny hops bad for your spokes / wheels ?
how do you lift backwards?
I can't get my back up either and its beginning to frustrate
Sam McEwen i just got it yesterday, so lt the noob tell you, find a foot that is comfy to lift, lean forward a little and push into that one pedal, try to scoop it. it is hard to explain. lean forward and push into pedals
sfeXman i can lift my back up now too, thanks, but now i'm having trouble doing both at once
stand on the ground, try to lift your bike with your foot. then when you go outside, lean forward on the bike and try to repeat that motion. beforehand i smoked some weed and when was going home i just randomly got the motion down
@@sammcewen4243 How could you lift the rear tire????
Thanks! After improving my bunny hop 2 months i can jump 30 cm! Very helphul! :)
Thanks! GCN, look please at subtitles section in Video Manager! Added many translations to your videos including this one, but only one was published :D Cheers!
When I fall back from a rear wheel hop, my chains hits the frame, is it normal or my chain is too loose?
Was that a Valentino Rossi "46" decal on your bike?
I fit it a bit harder when all my movements absorbed by my rear suspension!
