I heard of Opeth and didn't dig the growl stuff. Years later I discovered they were way more than that. I've been hooked for awhile now.

In my humble opinion Opeth is the greatest band ever. In every song you get a taste of every likable genre of music wrapped in a beautiful melody. Thank you Opeth. You have revived my love of music and my belief that man is capable of true beauty and artistry.

I met my first love because of this song.
I was sitting on the bus alone and flicking through my music trying to decide a song to listen to. The most beautiful red head I've ever seen sat next to me and asked me what I was listening to, and asked for one of my ear buds so that she could listen with me.
We began dating soon after, but all good things come to an end eventually.
I still love her and I wish she knew.

    I once upon a time
    Carried a burden inside
    I sung a last goodbye
A broken rhyme I had underlined
There's an ocean of sorrow in you
    Sorrow in me
Saw a movement in their eyes
Said, I no longer knew the way
    Given up the ghost
A passive mind submit to fear
And the wait for redemption at hand
    Waiting to fail
    Failing again
If death should take me now
Count my mistakes and let me through
    Whisper in my ear
You've taken more than we've received
And the ocean of sorrow is you

I have so enjoyed the evolution of Opeth's music.
They have have gracefully mastered integrating different styles, and continue to develop with every successive album a unique style that is hard to compare or relate to anything else. The evolution of their music has been such a delight to follow.
I like the clean guitar sounds, the keyboard solos, and the deep and often cryptic lyrics. It is a pity that they had to cut short the fantastic guitar solo that finishes this song. I wait with anticipation for their next release.

    Yes.
    And it's fucking amazing.
Seeing Opeth live is like a drug. The music and the fans. It's such an awesome experience. You can't find that kind of energy anywhere, anymore. A sea of people 1500 strong, dug into an underground club and surrounded on all sides by tall concrete walls, all singing the lyrics as loud as their throats will let them, swaying together, empowered and intoxicated by the sound and by one another, just being there in the moment.
It really is a wonderful thing.

Opeth never get what they deserve....Still I see opeth somewhere down in the third or fourth row in any music festival's line up poster. It's is really disappointing a band like this stays below any other musician in the world......i don't know everything but whatever I know I would say yes when it comes to music opeth is one of the best band that existed or would exist on earth.

The real question is whether there is any band like this that are nearly as popular. The reason they don't headline festivals is perhaps because their genre is relatively unknown...

Humanity has perceived just 10% of Opeth' music and here they are. I personally have figured out say 50% and i kinda laugh inside when people even dare to compare them with any musician by far. For me, they are as much encompassing as music itself

  • @sirdje3

call me crazy but does anyone else feel like Akerfeldt is a reborn classical master composer? from the musicians perspective he displays so many examples of classical dynamiscism. the compostitions tend to go through at least 4 or 5 different themes including the growl to clear voice, harmonies, etc. a friend(artist and professor) once told me true art is the marriage between technique and idea. vive le Artist Akerfeldt.

But if you ever, ever, *ever* get the time and willingness to drive out to meet them somewhere (I understand it could upwards of 500 miles to drive for remote areas), take some friends, and do it brother... truly.
