When you said stinging nettles, it brought back a great memory. My cousins and me were in the field with grandma and she would stop at a plant run in and over her hands grabbing the plant in her hands and she asked us to do the same. Most were nothing , but she did this with stinging nettles. We grabbed the plant once and NEVER AGAIN and today.. Thank you HH and EE for this wonderful memory. I'm quite sure the soldiers serving there were more than happy to leave this island and any invaders would turn tail and run once they hit the nettles. What a perfect way to use flora as a means of protection saving ammunition. Great video my friends thanks for the memory, now remember to stay healthy, be safe and be careful.

A beautiful, but most likely a lonely duty station for the German troops! The place must have had an incredible amount of fencing material based on the rusty piles of barbed wire. I would think the barrier between the water and the defensive positions would have been very formable! Especially with the land mines in place! Thanks for taking us around on the island and showing us all the trenching and bunkers, great history lesson! Stay safe and stay well!

Cool hat EE. 😊 Such gorgeous scenery, but right you are EE, you don't want to be tortured by stinging nettles and mosquitoes. That one area did look like a lunar landscape. There sure was a big pile of thin German barbed wire. Quite a network of trenches still intact. Once again the Germans used the natural resources in that area to build their bunkers, anti-aircraft gun positions, etc. Thank you for the mention. I hope your lungs continue to heal and that your means of income is back to normal. Thank you for taking us inside of the bunker. That place IS stunning. It is an untouched gem. Must of have been so exciting for you. Looking forward to learning more. Stay safe you two. ❤

This island must have been a lonely duty post for the German soldiers. The terrain looks rough and I would expect it was quite cold in the winter. The huge piles of rusty barbed wire were so easy to see in the terrain, it took a lot of labor to pull it all down and gather it into the piles. That bunker with the original wood in it was impressive! The scenery in the distance was quite beautiful with the snow covered mountains. Thanks for hiking all over the island and taking us along and showing us this location! Stay safe and stay well!

What a stunningly beautiful spot. The view alone would be worth the trip. But, it still amazes me to see the time, and effort, that the Germans put into fortifying even the most remotest part of the coast against the Allies. I would hate to think what that island was like in the middle of a winter storm. Definitely not somewhere I'd like to be stationed during the cold northern winters. HH and EE, kudo's to you guys though, for ploughing your way through all those nettles, and the mosquitos. That would not have been easy. So glad that we could make this trip happen, and that you finally got to see "your island", and that BBG and EE, achieved some of their dreams, with you. Many thanks to you all. It’s wonderful that you bring us these out of the way locations that others don’t go to. Am sure as a youngster growing up you heard different stories about the war and now you’re able to go out and see these locations. Did the Germans build and supply this location from the waterway or did they have to wait till the tide went out? This is one of those locations that time and nature are slowly recovering. While the gun placements look crudely built, they may have been something to see back in the day. Looking forward to part two.

Phenomenal! Can I please suggest that when HH, EE, and BB go exploring in areas like this place with a lot of overgrowth, that you use a walking stick of some sort to poke and probe the ground ahead of you to make sure there are no hidden holes that you could trip in, or even larger ones that you could fall down into. The Germans did a phenominal job of setting up all the structures needed for an effective defensive system. The gravity fed water supply system was an ingenious invention. That was something to see the orignal wood in that one bunker still in really good shape. Like your cool hat EE and enjoy your humming in the background. Did you keep the bird feather and shell that you found EE? The sound did look picture pefect. Buns looked yummy. 😋 Can I have mine with a cup of tea please? To think, as all the other battlefields, take away the monuments, relics, etc...., nobody would ever know what happened. The most beautiful battlefield I've ever visited has to be Normandy. I found the area where Uncle ray's outfit was at, he was DIVARTY ( division artillery) of the 101. That man was a living history book, all 3 wars, paratrooper all the way, never had a bad thing to say about anyone, loved his gardening. He made 96 then passed on a few years ago. I have a picture of him in his O.Ds, anyways glad you're doing better, I see EE got a haircut, he's really growing up fast.

@@WW2HistoryHunter Good morning, at 1st I didn't recognize EE thought he was you, keep feeding him all he wants. Uncle Ray tried to discourage me from joining up, communism was strong, anything could bust wide open. Dad and Ray just couldn't change my.mind and of course mom blamed em both. Ray told dad " Dee, let's have a drink, we'll need it when Francis gets home" 35 yrs later retired Army, it was worth it.
