Hands down the best fight I've ever seen. this was one of those "moment in time" fights, I remember exactly where I was, who I was with etc, and I was on the phone by round 3-4 calling every boxing fan I knew telling them if they're not already they've gotta watch. I knew while I was watching it that I was seeing the best fight I'd ever see well before that 10th round. Which begs the question: what is the SECOND BEST fight you've ever seen? Sorry to all the Gatti-Ward fans, as great of brawls as those were I just can't put 2 fringe fighters trying to stay relevant with Gatti getting nailed cuz he doesn't even have his hands up on quite the same plane as this. My #2 I was too young to see it when it happened but through that magical invention for boxing fans that is youtube I've since watched it many times: Duran-Leonard I. The balls on Sugar Ray in that fight, choosing to go toe-to-toe with Duran and not just doing it for one round but to continue to do so for FIFTEEN ROUNDS despite the beating he was taking, unbelievable fight, and I really don't know if I had been a boxing fan back then and seen it first if I wouldn't have even rated it higher than this classic. So what are some other people's top 5 best fights?
I had a similar experience myself. I was at my buddy's parents house. They had a party going on so it was basically a bunch of 20 somethings and my friend's mom and step-dad. I didn't even know there was boxing on that night or that they were gonna show it at the house. I loved watching boxing but never followed it too closely, but as soon as it came on the TV I was glued. Everyone but me was worried about drinking and socializing and here I am watching the greatest fight ever. It was like an out of body experience like is this really happening kind of thing. I'm thinking I'm the only one who's seen it, but as soon as the fights over my buddy's step-dad turns to me and says, "did you see that". We both just looked at each other acknowledging it was the best fight we've seen. I'll never forget when Corrales trainer says to him, "you better fucking get inside on him now".
The most dangerous punch in the fight was Corrales left hook. He threw a tight, very short hook and he snapped it off with speed behind it. I could feel the danger in that hook as the fight went on. Corrales hurt Castillo 6 or 7 times with that punch during the fight, and each time Castillo was hurt a little more then before. After the fight Castillo complained that the fight was stopped too soon. Castillo is a warrior but he was wrong about that, one more hook and he would have woke up in the dressing room. I'm surprised he said that, he dropped both hands and was badly hurt and wide open for a crushing blow.
I remember I was 15 years old watching this fight live with my dad. Still the greatest fight I’ve ever seen til this day. Another reason why I fell in love with boxing. RIP CHICO heart of a lion
These 135 today would never 😂 These 2 should've been on PPV worth $99 this is what the sport needs action and 2 warriors can't spell warrior without WAR
I was there at Mandalay Bay live that night. From what I have watched live or on replay at home I've never seen a duel as this with a movie style ending. Ward-Gotti 1 was epic and Hagler-Hearns also Leonard-Hagler. R.I.P Chico
One little caveat to this fight, or more specifically the broadcast, props to Al Bernstein and even more Steve Albert on the job they did calling this fight. No disrespect to Jim Lampley, he knows his stuff but I find at times him to be *AN HBO* commentator and not unbiased, he hypes up their guys and I don't believe calls it down the middle. And Showtime's current crew, I like Muaro Rannalo but I don't think he could have done as good a job as Steve Alpert did. Paulie would have been a good addition though, he has such a high ring IQ and I much prefer him to Roy Jones for the facts that A- I do think Paulie knows his stuff more and could actually be a highly successful trainer and B- when Paulie calls fights he doesn't do the shameless self-promoting that Roy still does, any great performance by any fighter and Roy finds the parallel from his own career lol
nah, no way, this is not amateur boxing. you have to touch the canvas with a knee or glove. If not, that's a TKO, you need to protect the fighters health, which Tony Weeks did perfectly here. Castillo wasn't defending at all, clearly knocked out cold.
That's what you call real boxing in the trenches baby toe to toe none of this running around running away hitting and running away type s*** real boxing 🥊😡🥊👍
Quite possibly the BEST fight I think I have ever watched! Incredible is a word that just does NOT do this match justice. How. HOW Chico came back in that 10th after taking such intense and sustained punishment, only GOD alone knows. Talk about staring into the abyss, and with slits for eyes!Regardless of the tactics employed, his heat of the moment actions bought him that time to find that reserve and unleash hell on a equally exhausted and battered Castillo. Brilliant. Savage. Primal. Beautiful. Awesome. Magnificent. A contest for the ages. RiP Chico. And good luck in Life to Jose. .
Those extra seconds in the last round after going down twice and spitting out the mouth piece, gave Corrales enough time to recover, when Castillo went for the kill thinking he only needed a couple more punches (and he did), but he exposed himself at close range something he avoided the whole fight, and Corrales got him good.. I don't know how much those extra seconds help or if it help at all but it was a good fight
Just been watching the Joe |Rogan podcast with Teddy Atlas and they mentioned this fight as being one of the greatest. I'm about to watch it...and very fucking excited.

"You gotta fucking get inside on him now" couldn't have said it any better by Joe Gossen to Corrales after the knockdowns.

For an action packed fight with ebbs and flows, how about Foreman/Lyle?
JParks1981 second best fight I ever seen Morales Barrera
My #2 best fight ever is The War. So much technicality in 3 rounds that went unnoticed because of the decision.
JParks1981 chacon / bazooka
One of the most incredible fights i've ever seen in my life!
Castillo beat Floyd Mayweather
R.I.P. Corrales! Good fight! Nice comeback!
Exceptional refereeing anybody else would have ruined this fight with over reffing or prematurely stopping it great job ref
39:30 challenge accepted
No shit!!! *__*
I’m watching this fight in 2021, and asking where are these types of warriors in today’s boxing 🥊 ??
One of the greatest fights of all-time....RIP Diego.
Timeouts after both knockdowns? Castillo would've had to knock him out to get a draw. A great fight ends with bullshit...
Watching this fight like I never seen it before
I remember I was 15 years old watching this fight live with my dad. Still the greatest fight I’ve ever seen til this day. Another reason why I fell in love with boxing. RIP CHICO heart of a lion
Castillo vs corrales 2...Winner Castillo 🥊.....referral suppoorting corrales 😡
These 135 today would never 😂
These 2 should've been on PPV worth $99 this is what the sport needs action and 2 warriors can't spell warrior without WAR
OH! MY! GOD!!!!!!!!
2021 and still gives me chills.
RIP CHICO!
I love Julio Cesar Chavez, Winky Wright and James Toney going nuts on ringside. These 2 had them celebrate like fanboys.
The greatest fight of all time in my opinion.
agree
JParks1981 Roy has seen boxing's ceiling unlike Paulie. Therefore he will find more parallels between he and other top performers.
When you've had a career like Roy's you can't blame him Roy was unstoppable as his best an amazing boxer
Chad Tep agreed
all the dislikes are from MMA fanboys, who will never have a moment even a 10th of this one
Si Corrales no hubiese tirado el protector en 2 ocasiones hubiese perdido ya que le dieron mucho tiempo para recuperarse
Puede que si. Puede que no.
Casi nadie el comandante antrax con los chavez jajaaay☣️
Every once in a while when I need encouragement I watch this. How to push forward when everything in you screams "STOP!"
Amen.
...well said
Boxers nowadays wish they can fight like this
This fight gave me chills. Greatest comeback I seen, RIP much ❤️.
Thank you Bill Burr for telling me about this fight on Joe Rogan Experience. What an amazing fight.
X2
CORRALES AND CASTILLO ARE WORRIERS RIP DIEGO FOREVER MISSED
I love seeing Winky Wright egging on Corrales just before the KO and seeing James Toney and Julio Cesar Chavez lose their shit and enjoy the fight
nah, no way, this is not amateur boxing. you have to touch the canvas with a knee or glove. If not, that's a TKO, you need to protect the fighters health, which Tony Weeks did perfectly here. Castillo wasn't defending at all, clearly knocked out cold.
We miss you, Champ!
Continue to rest easy, king.
Best fight ever imo. Sadly they both left a lot in the ring and neither guy was quite the same after this fight. RIP Chico.
Cuando corrales cayó a la lona el refery le contó hasta 100 jajajaja roboooooo
That's what you call real boxing in the trenches baby toe to toe none of this running around running away hitting and running away type s*** real boxing 🥊😡🥊👍
Nothing like two good and skilled Latino fighters. You gonna get a fight!!!!
RiP Chico. And good luck in Life to Jose. .
Those extra seconds in the last round after going down twice and spitting out the mouth piece, gave Corrales enough time to recover, when Castillo went for the kill thinking he only needed a couple
more punches (and he did), but he exposed himself at close range something he avoided the whole fight, and Corrales got him good..
I don't know how much those extra seconds help or if it help at all
but it was a good fight
The guy from the beach boys
You gotta fuckn get inside now
I love it
Just been watching the Joe |Rogan podcast with Teddy Atlas and they mentioned this fight as being one of the greatest. I'm about to watch it...and very fucking excited.
And wow, that was off the scale.
@@bargainboymakem1 Love Joe Rogan. Yes this was an amazing fight. Both were known for their punching power and inside fighting.
better than ward gatti.
Different, but IMO not better. Love both though.
I thought Gatti Ward had more drama but these two guys were definitely more skilled.
Hands down, without question, it is better than the great Gatti Ward fights. This is the greatest fight ever.
