Man. Thanks. I just sent you that question 1 week ago. You are the bomb!
I just had a few people ask me something similar just in the last 2 days.
I will be starting as a BMET1 in a couple weeks , I’m coming from 8 years of maintenance experience in the same hospital . I worked on all of our hospital beds and nurse call. Excited and a little nervous for this new chapter .
Excellent advice, thank you very much Justin, my respects and greetings to you.
got turned down by one hosp so far but my search has just begun as a thirty year component level tech.
I've been turned down many MANY times for jobs. It has always worked out for the better though.
I’m planning on beginning a Biomedical Engineering Technology 3 year advanced diploma in Canada. Hoping to begin my career within a couple of years.
You can start your career now if you try out some used equipment vendors or something like hospital bed repair. Always be a step ahead of your goal. While you're in school, try to gwt an entry-level/ part time position nearby.
I got on the job training
Hi just a quick question for you.
I have an electronics technician background I have worked in electronic repair for 14 years or so with a man associates equivalent in electronics and CETa
Did 8 years as a electronic tech in the British army
Been working in a repair shop performing board level repairs for the last 3 years.
Would you recommend a BMET certificate from the college of Biomedical equipment technology?
Or with my experience in the technical area be ok to gain a position.
I would go after any position that opens with your existing experience. After you obtain a job I'd go after a certificate, diploma or degree
If i already have a B.S. in technology services management would you recommend that I just take the CABT instead of getting an associates degree in BMET? or would you recommend both the CABT and an A.S. in BMET?
That is exactly what I would suggest
Question of curiosity what would you have a new biomed doing on the 3rd week? So far I’ve just done PM’s on infusion pumps and SCD’s and thats cool and all but I’ve literally been on every floor of this hospital 3x’s this week and I can’t find anymore equipment that needs pm’s this month and I’ve done stickers on just about everything. I ask my boss what he wants me to do and he just says keep doing the same thing lol. I’m currently walking around just trying to find stuff to do between sending out this comment.
When you can longer find items in specific departments, you should create a list of missing items for a department and send it to the nursing manager or the director over an area - stating that these items are unable to be located. That Email along with the work order should then be updated or closed (preferred) and the email attached as proof of notice. If your manager doesn't play that way, then keep doing what the manager is saying.. preferred you send him emails when it is about these issues and save his email replies in a CYA folder.
