Masonry tip. Hold rocks in a wall until it sets (with String Line)

  • When we needed a bit of extra "help", or had to build fairly high quickly, we used Tie Wire to tie rocks in place as the mortar sets up. With the tie wire around it, you can pack in mortar better and add rocks on top without everything bulging out. However, the String Line "method" is far quicker, easier to re-adjust and quite often, reusable too. A trick I did not show in the video (When the string refuses to come out), is to pull it taut, and cut it close to the rock. When you do this, the stretched string jumps back and disappears into the wall.
