Definitely one of the best watch channel, excellent content and well presented, you are obviously genuinely enthusiastic about the subject and have not 'sold out' or have a hidden agenda like some 'watch people'. Thank you for the time and effort you put in.
kane millard - Agreed. The Everest PRS25 is a terrific looking piece - despite being a homage - and the Everest Expedition is also a beautiful piece. I was on the site today. They have released a Paul Newman Daytona homage and a Seiko 6105 'Willard' homage since I last looked.
One thing I like most about many traditional military watches is the legibility at night, their lume layout is always easy to read. It's also the feature that I like the most when wearing my Smiths. The CWC diver has a beautiful lume design too.
Great segment! Varied selection from 'straight up' to modern reinterpretation of the military watch. Glad to see Glycine, CWC and Tutima all included for both historical and real time military watches. Thank you, Tim, for this excellent presentation and your commentary, which shows your good taste.
In 1968 I was issued a green 36 or 38 mm green plastic watch. It was ment to be worn thrown away. Funny thing on the back was a warning about the lume being hazardous to your health. Also there was a small compass. However you could buy watches at PX Rolex...ect
Chris, Yes, I agree. And, heat blued hands in that price range is unheard of. Of course, it has no lume whatsoever. This seems to be standard for air ministry watches, which makes me scratch my head.
First Name Last Name The Omega 6B/159 that the Smiths is based on was intended for bomber navigators rather than pilots. Presumably they used light at their chart tables and needed precise readouts, and didn’t think lume was worth it at the time. Those watches were then re-dialled, recased and had lume applied in the 50’s.
Yesssir, I need one of those 36mm white dial Airman wonderful piece. Great video with - mouthwatering - informative contents from a well-dressed german gentleman.
I have the Khaki field with the white face. Cracking little watch for the price. I think it has more wrist time than my other watches, and it’s the cheapest.
I would be interested in pretty much anything from Time Factors. I became interested in watches around 2002, and they'd had a loyal following even then through the internet-- and they were nearly as impossible to get back then as they are now.
Stumbled on this on watch channel and absolutely love it. Nothing pretentious.. good sense of humour and incredibly informative with a good balance of history thrown in. Commenting on the back of a vintage military watch video and not relevant, but hoping Tim can do a topic around Glashutte.. the region and why it came to be the pre-eminent location for watch quality in Germany. Maybe a bit about the watch makers in that area too.. I personally love Nomos. Amazing contemporary, clean, sharp and gorgeous watches. Excellent job Tim. Love it.
Outstanding video Tim as usual yes I would really like to see The Smiths watch a but I'd also like to see you take a look at some Fortis pieces I feel like there kind of forgotten about I'm an owner of one and I think it's amazing cheers
Received my SMITHS PRS29 (black dial) a few days ago. I highly recommend it, it's beautiful on the grey NATO, I'll have to try it on a leather soon. Would love to see a review of it by you as there is very little footage of it on UA-cam.
I recently purchased four Glycine Airman watches. One GMT and three Purists (24 hour hand, no 12 hour hand). There is such a large variety of styles and sizes, one was not enough. I was able to buy mine on eBay for about $400 - $500 new. I do not know the reason for the price drop, but I was able to get the vintage and contemporary versions I wanted. Not that I really need a reason/excuse for buying a watch, but I was born the same year as the Airman (and the Chevrolet Corvette).
Caseback Watches I was able to view online the book “Glycine Airman, Play it again Sam!” By Andre Stikkers, until my hard copy arrived. That fueled my interest. I am very happy with my selection of models: GL0064, GL0072, GL0214 & GL0224.
Hi Tim. I would love to see a similar video (or series of videos) about Soviet era watches. Such a rich history in both space travel and military pieces, and so oft overlooked.
I have a few Smiths watches and if I'm honest they are the only watches I wear nowadays excepting one brand 'Newmark' I love them too. My next purchase will be the Smiths Everest Expedition cream dial when the shop next opens (this is a challenge as its normally shut again 30 minutes after opening) Love the channel Tim, keep well. (I hear that a Smiths will be heading your way soon)
Love the video, descriptions and narrative! I personally went for a VERTEX M100 as I loved the background story, and to be honest when I opened the gorgeous small Pelicase presentation box I was blown away by the superb finish, sublime detailing and look of a remake of one of the 'Dirty Dozen'. Not cheap, but a treasured watch.
Casio F91W was famously used by the SAS and some other infamous organisations. A Seiko 5 is a good mechanical alternative. I would like you to do a review on the Smith but also the Smith Vanguard Daytona homage. You also have the Poljot Strela re-issues that where used for aviation and cosmonauts.
On the Hamilton and Glycine watches with sand-colored dials, the hand are nearly invisible against the dials unless the light is perfect. Sort of a pet peeve of mine.
Can’t believe I just found this, such a breath of fresh air compared to almost everything watch-related. On Glycine - they have two versions, purist (24 hour) and gmt (one shown in the video) with cream and black dials. They’ve got not as much of a military but rather civil aviation heritage. I sold my 36mm gmt a week ago cause it was mostly just sitting in a box. You can find them on eBay for 700-800 used and if you like the aesthetics go for it. It’s an absolute delight.
I am definitely considering the Smiths or the Laco as my next watch possibly instead of the Seagull 1963. Would love to see a review of the Smiths. There is a story that Sir Edmund Hillary wore the Smiths and kept his rolex in his bag possibly a marketing story but he did apparenty own a smiths and the Edmund Hillary pattern Smiths is definitely a thing. Perhaps you could verify it during the Smiths review. One thing I hope will happen in this series or some future review is the Westend Watch co being featured. Hoping to see that happen soon. One thing you maybe be interested in is lookong at the Omega Seamaster Railmaster a second time in this context. These watches were bought by the Argentinian and Pakistani airforces in the 1950s-1960s and issued to pilots. Based on the time frame they would have been worn by PAF pilots in conflicts with India the air wars of which involved several very iconic cold war jets like the F86 sabre, F104 Starfughter, Hawker Hunter and Mig 21 etc so looking into it may help scratch your cold war itch.
Shaharyar Sheikh - Re. the 1st Everest summit, I can relay what I know. Tenzing Norgay was definitely wearing a Rolex Explorer when they summited. Sir Edmund Hilary reportedly wore an Explorer on one wrist and a Smiths small seconds piece on the other. Many watch companies were keen to get their product into the hands of the climbers, for obvious reasons. Hilary did become a brand ambassador of sorts for Smiths after the climb, by allowing the brand to quote him saying 'I wore a Smiths on Everest and it performed perfectly ' (or words to that effect) in their advertising. I believe that you can see copies of the original ads on the Time Factors site. Obviously the Smiths Everest PRS25 is an homage to the Rolex Explorer ref. 1016 and not a re-issue of the Smiths watch Edmund Hilary wore. I read about this a while ago, and I have written this from memory only. So feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong. Stay safe.
Excellent as usual Tim would love to see The Smiths reviewed hope you can get your hands on one? My watch obsession started with my Dads Smiths watch he wore from early 1960s for 3 decades until it expired!
Thank you very much for another most informative video. This has been an amazing mini-series. I truly enjoy your style of presentation and unique approach to watch reviews. This is now my favourite watch channel!
One very nice military tribute watch (not mentioned here) is the Blancpain Fifty-Fathoms Barakuda. It is based on a small batch of very handsome looking dive-watches made by Blancpain in 1968 for the West German Bundesmarine.
Oh, that Tutima M2 NATO Chronograph is a great choice. Love to have one of those in my collection. With Top Gun Maverick ahead of us maybe a feature of the Orfina Porsche Design Chronograph would be a fun thing 😁
Not a big Orient fan but they have military style watches (watch code: RA-AC0H). Price ranges from $260-$285. They look nice. To big for my wrist though. Case:42.2 mm and Lug to Lug:49.5 mm. Just throwing this out there. My personal favorite is the Hamilton Khaki Field 38 mm Automatic. I own this one and a very nice watch. Even better that it was on sale for bout $150.00 off during a Christmas sale. I also own the Stowa Flieger Classic 36 Automatic, great watch. Great channel by the way. Keep them coming Tim.
Superb content: tasteful yet fun and as always an appropriate level of detail. Excellent. I have a Hamilton Khaki King, and have just got another Stowa, this time the hand wound, no date 40mm Baumuster B. I really like that Glycine airman, to have retained its original essence through the years only adds to its integrity. Waffle aside I love the dimensions and look of that Smiths watch; it would be great to see a review of both of those dials. As a fan of Stowa, this looks so appealing.
The Hamilton is perfect as a cheap beater for outdoor adventures ... except for the fauxtina. For me, this completely removes the pureness of the design and makes it more of a fashion watch.
Definitely more Time Factors watches (i have the PRS5 & PRS9),but you should look at what China are producing.I have recently bought two dive watches which are homages to iconic Seiko divers, the 1970's/80's Tuna and the 1972 Turtle as used by Martin Sheen in the Apocalypse Now movie. These are highly accurate and use the Seiko 4R36/NH35 movement and are available on Aliexpress using the brand name Steeldive.Have Fun......
I bought a Smiths PRS-29 a few weeks back and I'm happy to see it here! Although I believe they are £405 and not around 300 as mentioned in the video :) Please do a full review on the watch, I am keen to hear your in-depth thoughts.
Thanks Tim for the great video, I really like military watches, I had a small collection of military watches from the 1920s till 1990s and had a lot of fun while wearing them but sold them all out to consolidate my collection a bit. I have to say I like the Smiths watch, but my favorite from the video today has to be Tutima (big fan of German watches).
this series would transition well into the "modern military watch" or the modern "tough watch" list, like the sinn u1, damasko da43, victorinox Inox and other such watches, maybe even the g-shock and suunto (since these are most likely to be worn by military personnel today)..
These are fascinating videos, thank you. I don't know if this is something you'd be interested in doing but could you do a list of very low price military inspired watches? Say, below £200? I know the selection is likely to be limited, but it would be valuable to those of us with very little to spend.
Hi Tim. I somehow missed this post, so I am very late to comment. Another great video and further evidence that you are one of the best watch channels on YT. Light hearted yet informative, and the right balance between thoroughness and brevity. If the term 'sprezzatura' can be applied to a YT watch review channel, your channel has it. The Glycine was a fascinating piece of design. The outer edge of the dial + the bezel markings create a very busy look at 1st glance yet the clarity and legibility is superb. Great design. The CBC? Just gorgeous, a brand which has been on my radar for a while now, as has the re-born Smiths brand. As an Australian, that British and Commonwealth military 'broad arrow' is something that I have longed for on a watch I can own. Time Factors appear to be doing very well., + I learned the genesis of the Seagull 1963 design! One of the favoured pieces in my watch box!...and finally the 'little snippet of 'detective' jazz as you introduced the Zenith! Nice! Another great video. Thank-you. I don't know what you have in store for us, but a video or 2 in this format about the vintage re-issues of Soviet era watches would be fantastic I think. Some interesting movements were housed in those old Sturmanskie and Poljot pieces for aviators and cosmonauts, and the same can be said for the MOD Vostok's. The Raketa World Timer and UFO / Puck watch also merit a mention I believe. Cheers Tim and good health!
Would anyone know any information about. A German watch company. “Regent”. ??! I have a world war 2 era watch by Regent. All I can find on the internet is that it is a German company. The movement is Swiss. ??? Any input from anyone would be helpful. Thanks.
Great video. I like the theory about the Zenith you had. I think some manufacturers produce specific models not directly for monetary reasons, I think some models (which are often higher priced than the average models from the brand) are there to create attention for the brand and give it credibility.:)
Love your videos Tim. You should check out MWC (military watch company). They have some very nice military watches at very reasonable prices including so old style ones. Love your style and music. I bought your CD as I am a big Django fan.
Die Smiths-Uhren sehen wirklich sehr gut aus. Ich bin also für ein Video darüber. Die Khaki King in silber sieht übrigens phantastisch am Metallarmband aus, welches man sich leider nur nachbestellen kann.
Right now I don't want ANY DNA in my watch! A lot of really nice items there, especially the Zenith, but be careful; you must do your homework. I bought a watch that was advertised as 'ex SAS'. It turned out to be from an SAS on-flight trolley. My lawyer says I'm screwed. Cancel the Zenith, I've just heard about the 'extra special'. Bloody hell! What were they thinking of. I think I'll go for one of Timefactors'. Many thanks Tim.
Great video Tim! Keep making quality content like this. I would be very interested to see you do a review of the Timefactors Smiths military watch. Maybe Eddie kan borrow you both dial versions? The marine officer white dial and the infantry man black dial both have very attractive characteristics. 👍🏼
Just found you... excellent channel ..i would like you to try and review the CWC SBS Diver please ..current issue to the British Special Boat Service .. and available to the public ..
tim, i am attracted by military watches with knurled bezel, my favourite been the longines heritage 1935 majetek or czech air force, even if it might be too big for my taste.Hanhart also, but I would love to find this type of watch in 38mm!! And yes please I would LOVE it if you could review the Smiths prs 29 !!! I own a smiths everest 36mm and it is an amazing watch ! I follow you since a long time and I am always happy to watch your next video. thank you.👍 i
Yes, the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical replicates the dial of the US Military Service GS (General Service) watch very accurately; the hands too. The design was finalized in WW2; but only pilots got hacking. That feature was rolled out to all GS watches during the Vietnam conflict. IMO, it is unfortunate that these new watches only have a WR rating of 50M. The watch would be much more compelling if it had a WR rating of 100M. This is one of the things that the modern "Smiths" (Timefactors.com) does right. He also makes his homage field watches smaller; closer to the size of the original. That is what makes them so "wearable". They make a statement by not making a statement. They are the anti-bling. Re: Dirty Dozen from episode 1. A proper dirty dozen watch has a seconds subdial at 6 o'clock. I have yet to find one made under 40mm that is reasonably priced and currently in production. VAER makes one with an ETA movement, but it is 40MM and runs close to $900.00. Stowa makes a drop dead gorgeous watch in this vein in 36mm but it runs $1,700.00. I would treat that as a dress watch. Field watches for general service were made small for very pragmatic reasons. 1) a large watch tends to break from striking against things, and to get caught on things, and 2) a large watch is difficult to keep under your sleeve, and will reflect light which makes you an easier target for a sniper.
Best watch channel on UA-cam
Definitely one of the best watch channel, excellent content and well presented, you are obviously genuinely enthusiastic about the subject and have not 'sold out' or have a hidden agenda like some 'watch people'. Thank you for the time and effort you put in.
Thanks for watching and the kind comment!
Alfred Frome - Well said.
We all know who you're talking about, lol... completely agree.
Alfred you hit the nail on the head.
would love to see some smiths reviews.
kane millard - Agreed. The Everest PRS25 is a terrific looking piece - despite being a homage - and the Everest Expedition is also a beautiful piece.
I was on the site today. They have released a Paul Newman Daytona homage and a Seiko 6105 'Willard' homage since I last looked.
I too am interested in that watch. The "riveted" bracelet looks interesting.
@@thetimemachine3828 I have the Everest Expedition model..it's an amazing piece.
Really got a benefit of watching these two videos. The "Seagull" is slowly winning me over.
Would like to see more of the Smiths lineup (PRS, Everest etc..)
Great series Tim! I know that was a lot of hard work...👍🏻👏🏼
Thanks for watching, Chris!
In 1968 I was issued a green 36 or 38 mm green plastic watch. It was ment to be worn thrown away. Funny thing on the back was a warning about the lume being hazardous to your health. Also there was a small compass. However you could buy watches at PX Rolex...ect
So enjoyable to watch. Thank you for the history and importance of these timepieces.
That Smiths Air Ministry with the cream dial is absolutely stunning for a military watch.
I love Glycine! Thank you for this beautiful video!
Yes Tim. I’d very much like a review of the Smiths watches. I particularly liked the white dial with crown logo!
Yesssir, I need one of those 36mm white dial Airman wonderful piece. Great video with - mouthwatering - informative contents from a well-dressed german gentleman.
Great video Tim. I love videos on military watches. Thank you so much.
Love it.
Thank you very much!
Really liked your meticulously prepared and professionally delivered review! Concise and to the point.
Thanks a lot! That video was quite some work but fun at the same time and so I'm really glad that so many people like it.
I want to see a review of the Smiths watch! Particularly the white dial. Those blue hands are beautiful.
Good Job Tim.
Great info as always.
You are a super watch enthuest and we all know you do a lot of work to make your vidios.
Thank you.
Thank you very much!
Thanks for this 2 part series, very informative.
Another great video Tim - keep em coming pal :)
Thanks!
I learn so much from your channel. Great episode. i'd love to see you review the Smiths
Excellent video as always. Thanks Tim 👍🏻👍🏻
Outstanding video Tim as usual yes I would really like to see The Smiths watch a but I'd also like to see you take a look at some Fortis pieces I feel like there kind of forgotten about I'm an owner of one and I think it's amazing cheers
Thanks for the great video series Tim! If you get a hold of Smiths (ah, especially this RAF version is a beauty!) and Panerai, that would be a treat.
Received my SMITHS PRS29 (black dial) a few days ago. I highly recommend it, it's beautiful on the grey NATO, I'll have to try it on a leather soon. Would love to see a review of it by you as there is very little footage of it on UA-cam.

My biggest watch buying mistake the Air man 1 36 mm in sand. Should have bought a black one.
Thanks Tim, another great video I thoroughly enjoyed!
Hi,Tim! Great presentation as always. I would be very interested to hear Your thoughts about meistersinger astroscope watch. Thank You!
"There you have it, you can stop watching now. That was a joke....." I love the german sense of humour.
Great review Tim - Many thanks Noel
Should note that the H50 movement saves power by only ticking at 3 hertz, so the second hand does look a bit more jittery as a result.
I enjoyed this very much!
Can’t believe I just found this, such a breath of fresh air compared to almost everything watch-related.

Excellent as usual Tim would love to see The Smiths reviewed hope you can get your hands on one? My watch obsession started with my Dads Smiths watch he wore from early 1960s for 3 decades until it expired!
Two Smiths watches are in the mail!
smiths , yes. excellent content again. really enjoy your channel. keep up the good work ( and humour ) :)
Good video like all those watches. Can you do a full review of the smith watch please
I think the Smiths watch review would be great to see 👍👍
Thank you very much for another most informative video. This has been an amazing mini-series. I truly enjoy your style of presentation and unique approach to watch reviews. This is now my favourite watch channel!

Tim how about doing a vidio on the history of
Formula 1 watches.
Could be very interesting.
Is that you playing slack key on the acoustic Tim? Cool sound
Nice job Tim!
Here’s another good one: Citizen NY0040, Marina Militaire version.
Gut gemacht. +1 für Glycine
If u ever do a part 3...... consider the Bulova Hack
I bought a Smiths PRS-29 a few weeks back and I'm happy to see it here!
Although I believe they are £405 and not around 300 as mentioned in the video :)
Please do a full review on the watch, I am keen to hear your in-depth thoughts.
Tim, a review of the Smiths PRS would be greatly appreciated, especially as I'm from the north of England, great 2 parter by the way.
I'd love to see part 3. And you missed the ultimate reissue. The Omega 1913, limited to 18 pieces.
Thanks Tim, I really enjoy your channel. Take care mate 😷👍🦠
Thanks, you too!

Another great watch for this category is the Hamilton Pan Europ 707. I would love to see a watch review on this watch, Please.
Are you continuing this series?

Really enjoyed this discussion.
Hi Tim.
I somehow missed this post, so I am very late to comment.

Thank you for watching and the kind comment!
Great. Video. Great content
Would anyone know any information about. A German watch company. “Regent”. ??! I have a world war 2 era watch by Regent. All I can find on the internet is that it is a German company. The movement is Swiss. ??? Any input from anyone would be helpful. Thanks.
Many thanks for the great content, much appreciated!
Yes! Please review the Smiths PRS.
This needs a part 3 😀
Would love to see some french brands like Dodane 🤘🏻🇫🇷
Please review the Smiths watch. Swiss movement, sapphire crystal & anti magnetic at that price point, where else does this exist?
Great video. I like the theory about the Zenith you had. I think some manufacturers produce specific models not directly for monetary reasons, I think some models (which are often higher priced than the average models from the brand) are there to create attention for the brand and give it credibility.:)
Tim, I think Timefactors should have it's own series because there are so many cool vintage inspired models in their store.
I have good news: Eddie agreed to send me some pieces! :-D
@@CasebackWatches Awesome. I can't wait for your reviews. I'm about to pick up the 36mm Everest (a watch very popular thanks to ID Guy!)
Love your videos Tim. You should check out MWC (military watch company). They have some very nice military watches at very reasonable prices including so old style ones. Love your style and music. I bought your CD as I am a big Django fan.
Some might also include Oris Big Crown Pointer Date.
Yes please, give us a review of the Smiths if possible. I am, let me say, a bit interested in that watch... ***breathes heavily***
Nice watches, the Tutima looked really good :) You should take a look at the Swedish Airforce Pilots watch, Sjöö Sandström Skydiver ;)
Man I really love the Panerai look.
I want the Smiths in the light box if you can manage
You didn't mention that Elvis used to wear a Hamilton watch.
Smith's is an interesting brand. but I think I I'm going to go with CWC Airman. looks a lot like the Hamilton Airmena a bit bigger...
Die Smiths-Uhren sehen wirklich sehr gut aus. Ich bin also für ein Video darüber. Die Khaki King in silber sieht übrigens phantastisch am Metallarmband aus, welches man sich leider nur nachbestellen kann.
Please do the Smith’s watch review. What a great price! More on the movement please.
The movement in the Smith's PRS-29a is the ETA 2801-2.
That Tutima is dope.
Definitely need to review the Smiths PRS29 Air Ministry.
tim, i am attracted by military watches with knurled bezel, my favourite been the longines heritage 1935 majetek or czech air force, even if it might be too big for my taste.Hanhart also, but I would love to find this type of watch in 38mm!!
And yes please I would LOVE it if you could review the Smiths prs 29 !!! I own a smiths everest 36mm and it is an amazing watch !
I follow you since a long time and I am always happy to watch your next video. thank you.👍
i
Really good video.
Thanks for watching!
