That's what I always tell people who are so afraid to sew...get to know your machine it's just like when you drive a car you know the pedals and when you drive someone else car its a little different, that's the way it is using a sewing machine. Loved the video

Thanks John! I tried this last night and it helped immensely!! After 25 mins, I felt like I could control the machine much better. It also helped to me to learn controlling the speed of the machine. This was a great tip that I will keep doing daily to improve my skills. Keep up the great work!

Nice practicing techniques. I made a mooring cover for my 26' Nova about 8 years ago, wish I'd have had some instruction like this before hand. It turned out decent for my first cover, but something like this would have been great. I have subscribed, thanks and great job!

I own 5 machines and don't stitch a lick, I like to buy sewing machines. Just getting started learning. I have been sewing those same type patterns for about a week now learning the quirks of my Consew 206RB and 226.

I got interested in sewing machines this year as a way to make covers. I ended up buying 5 machines cause they are so intricate.

Very helpful information ,Thank you. I would just like to know where you focus(;look) while sewing - at the needle? at the seam width? Or perhaps elsewhere? I am definitely going to practice this and get proficient! thanks again

Thanks for the video. How do you sew rubber/insulation backed upholstery? I really can't afford an industrial walking/compound foot machine. Is there a way to avoid puckering? I recently used an even feed foot on my domestic sewing machine to sew some insulated heavy curtain fabric, with #69 bonded polyester thread on both needle and bobbin. I was really frustrated with the puckers.

hey, great video. I am hoping to learn this skill for home upholstery projects and a bit of medieval costumery. I am living overseas, so second hand isn't an option. I am considering the singer 9960. is this machine too consumery or is it suitable for this kind of thing?

Hi John, just have a quick question and would love if you replyed....im kinda a beginner at sewing even though I've been sewing for over a year as a hobby and I actually applied to a job recently for a seamstress position, i found out it's actually for boat covers and upholstery I think and it looks similar to what you do... I've sewn zipper pouches and lots of straight lines, I made a gym bag, I've done some basic clothes patterns too, just basic stuff, do you think someone like me who's mostly sewn straight lines, could handle boat upholstery and covers? Or is it alot more complicated than I'm thinking? Thanks for the video too, love how clear your instructions are!

Hi Jennifer. Once you learn how to operate a sewing machine you can literally build anything you can think of. Nothing is more complicated than having the knowledge to build stuff. The fact that you have already learned to sew means you’re ahead of the game. I think you can build anything you want just give it a try.

John Cavco I guess another thing I had forgotten to mention was all the different kinds of materials I'd be working with, I've really only sewn with cotton, stretch knit, and vinyl but I think like you said, I just need to stay confident and let them know I'm willing to learn the rest! Thank you so much!
