Mike Boyle is so legit that my college's exercise science injury prevention professor recommended him as recommended reading alongside Gray Cook and Stuart McGill. He's also super nice. I emailed him with a question on Christmas day and he answered me a few hours later. Hard working man!
I found this discussion of squat technique and proper form to be the most informative I have ever viewed.
Me too. I'm finally doing it right
gosh he knows whats up
Brilliant video!! I've just spent the last 1 1/2 hours watching all kinds of videos on squating and finally this one has given me the confidence and some clear techniques to stop leg presses and try squats again! Thanks mate!
Mike Boyle is such a legend
Love it! Straightforward, simple, easy to teach...great stuff right there. Thanks Mike.
That's brilliant. Best squatting instruction I've ever seen. Thanks!
Coach, you rock! Hands down the best demonstration on proper squat form..
This video was very helpful! Thank you.
The best explaination on proper squat form I've ever viewed on UA-cam
Best "How to squat" vid i have seen to date..Will def be trying these in the morn..Thanx Mike :)
I have followed this system and now I'm squatting perfect every time!! Thank you
you have been great and informative speaker! i hope you make videos for proper forms and or postures for excercises. thank you
That was amazing! Simple, Effective - truly great !
Thank You so much for help :)
man this guy knows his stuff. Going to do goblet squats for a while to get my form down. Thanks Mike!
Brilliant teacher, Thank you very much.
After countless videos and seeing people with improper form, this is the greatest squat video i have ever seen...Thanks so much for this video!
great video thank you for this great tool :)
Great video. I love doing goblet squats. I wish there were video's like this around when I was struggling to back squat years ago. I probably wouldn't have injured my lower back at the bottom of the exercise when I reached technical failure. I never used huge weight but did squat 20 reps per set. Goblet squats are much safer especially for taller athletes. Thanks.
Im definitely going to use the goblet squat with my clients! Thanks
Great video! I needed that. I'm goblet squatting today.
Michael Boyle isss the utmost technical and explainative instructor! He really does know what he's doing , you can see it!
Great info, I spent a few weeks just doing goblet squats to learn to keep my torso upright when squatting, it's a great tool.
That was a fantastic video!
That was great. Thanks Mike for clearing that up.
Excellent video here Mike.
Cool! Gotta try it! Thanks!
VERY interesting. I'm going to try these things.
Thanks. Great teaching. 'Two points of contact' on DB goblet squat. Nice, hadn't considered that aspect.
Simonet1309 Likewise, can't wait to try this. Great explanation
Really good info!
Great video with some quality information!
The best squat info on youtube
love this!
I enjoyed the instruction for that. My toes naturally come off the ground when I squat & putting dumbs under the heels fixes that problem. Mr. Boyle went into all 3 position to get the perfect squat. I was noticing that I was leaning forward & was thinking of ways to correct that problem and I think I found it. Thanks!
Wow, thanks for this brilliant.. Information 💯👏🏽
I learned a lot! Thanks :)
Simply put. Easy. Genius.
Great video!
Thank you!!
I really appreciated this video, 6 months back at the gym haven't even attempted squats yet.. I always get a 'click' in my knees coming up.. i think its my form
INTERESTING. I am unhappy with my squat and will be trying these techniques tonight! Thank you Mike!
Michael boyle is just like this: simple, direct and efective.
This is very helpful
Thanks this worked immediately
Boyle is the best!!!
The best squat tutorial on youtube
wow. this is amazing.
Wow. Stacking my heels has been a godsend. Thank you!
this is so awesome thanks!!
Wicked technique!
excellent!!
This video is great for getting people to squat correctly.
Mikes no joke. I employed just a few tips mostly on deads and chin ups with the resistance bands. My son, heavily followed middle school football recruits almost doubled his strength in 3 mons time.
Best video ever
My god, this video is awesome!
The best video abut squats s far
Great video! I do wonder though - these are all temporary fixes. How would you progress a client from these "baby steps", if you will, to actually completing squats with perfect form WITHOUT goblets/blocking the heel etc?
WOW THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!!
That's what I like do for my wormup before my barbell squats. It will improve preference of the squats.
awesome
Thank you.
magnific!
hi. question about the ankle support. Im really bad at squats and need overall strength and core conditioning. As I get stronger will/ should I expect to not use the ankle support?
That's awesome
awesome.
Can I use this as a warm up to loosen up before I squat?
post more videos with mike! this man is a genius. Could listen to him all day
That is a good place to start. I prefer them being shoulder width. If you place your feet either too far apart or too close together you will end up restricting the movement pattern and not seeing the full benefit of the exercise, while possibly incurring injury.
Thanks a lot for the tip.
Could I also ask, does having my legs further apart or closer to engage different muscles? How far apart should they be? Someone said to me a bit wider than shoulder width.
Wish i could do that kind of squat but knee arthritis prevents getting to 90° . Any tips for us with knee issues?
Superb! :-)
Post a video on how to power clean.
is it gonna work without using any equipment?
perfect
Do you work with people that have disc bulge issues?
Finally, a no-nonsense set of videos on exercise basics.
Try slightly rotating your toes outwards and allowing your knees to track out over them. This will help engage the quads more.
Hi Mike, not sure if you see the comments section but if at all you do just a quick question for you, i had been doing what you recommend on this video and i i'm very happy with the result, in fact thrilled to see such a form, but the moment i switch to a Barbell squat i once again start leaning forward. what can i do to prevent that ?
try a front squat or zercher squat
yea you can try doing front squat or zercher, but I don think it will really "solve" the inherent issue of why you cant effectively do a good backsquat.
I would actually go back on working your anterior core, to hold the trunk up right, and also work on releasing the tighter erector spinal/back muscles that cant seem to extend your spine upright.
but then again, i believe it has got to do with your hip mobility issues.
work on posterior pelvic tilt, and keep releasing your hip flexors group, mainly your psoas.
use resistance bands also, place over your ASIS, so bands is behind you ( aka you have a line of action of force pulling posterior of hips, but the idea is to try to keep your trunk stable as you are doing your backsquat )
last but not least, work on the breathing. Breathing is often overlooked.
Its not the end of the world if you're hinging at the hip, just keep core tight(shoulders down and back and lots of air inside) and the weight light, and congrat youself that you are even doing this move to full depth like you did as a kid so naturally.
A lot of my friends say they feel the soreness in their quads after squatting. I feel soreness on my the opposite side of my quads (glutes?) And a little in my inner thigh area. I try to keep my back straight and use my heels but am I not feeling the soreness in my quads because im doing it wrong?
Squat 101🎉
my knees has a cracking sound, should i still squat? i think i had bad knees from sitting infront of a computer for long time and duration. i hope i could still workout
ua-cam.com/video/XlpthDOK36g/v-deo.html
I have ALWAYS wondered, doesn't blocking the heels only treat the issue NOT fix it?
Thanks very much. I am doing better but am still doing difficult. I believe it is because I weigh a lil more than I should. I am 6 foot 1 and am looking for some tips. I weigh 220 lbs an can calf raise with a plate and a 10 . by any mean I anyone has tips on how I can improve my form that would be much appreciated
You save you can do calve raises with a decent amount of weight but are still having some trouble with getting your squatting form down. I would look to see if you have shortened calve muscles from all the reps of calve raises. As Mike describes in the video, some times poor squatting form comes in the way of ankle immobility, which is caused mostly by shortened calves and hamstrings. For you I would try the blocking technique. See if that doesnt fix the issue
Ok thanks
Even for basketball?
I want to know whose disliking this video
i really wish i lived in his city...i am sure we would become best friends from the first 5 min...sadly i am from Greece. I don't even think my physiatrist will use his time to check my hip or ankle mobility.
Yeah, who is disliking this vid? What is there to dislike??
How in the actual hell can you properly hypertrophy the quads with a goblet squat?
good advice but how exactly does this apply to a barbell? -_-
Macklin Tao wastes time attempting to berate instead of informing. You'd be a good friend to have.
Actually I think I was quite successful in both informing and insulting you. I told you that the skills were transferable at the same time that I insulted you for not knowing that. Have a good day.
Macklin Tao lol ego tripping douche is ego tripping douche.
It applies all the same to a barbell. This video was more for, "hey if you have any of these poor squatting symptoms, do this to fix it..." Once those are corrected for, barbell squatting is all the same. Hope that helps!
I was going to teach my father to how to squat (with weights later on) and sadly this didn't help...
I tent to fall backwards please help
Probably because your femur or spine is too long compared to your lower leg
+Noah salih so how could I fix the falling situation since it's longer than my legs
Practice squatting with something behind you like a bench or platform. If thats too low you can add something for height. Most clubs have those blue pads, or even a bosu. Also there's nothing wrong with just putting a stability ball against the wall and doing wall squats. Or you might find it easier to just simply widen your feet and turn them out a bit. There's nothing wrong with that as long as your knees and ankles aren't completely collapsing or pronating inwards. And keep in mind the squat isn't the best lower body exercise, there's no such thing. It might be a good idea for you to work on your glutes quads and hamstrings as components before trying squats. Also it's always a good idea to make sure your ankles are balanced. You could have a lack of range of motion in your ankles due to weak anterior tibialis leading to lack of dorsiflexion which completely messes up a squat. You can find plenty of good dorsiflexion videos on UA-cam
Squatting is not sport specific. It is great for all sports.
you are supposed to lean forward
Hey Mike...why not train.
For the same reason Bill Belichick isn't a QB, WR, RB, DB, or TE. He's a superior teacher.
If you are a low bar squatter, you can't squat how he does. Only hi bar squatters can. He is only teaching half of the picture. Whether you low bar or hi bar, you keep the bar over the center of your foot. Weightlifting you need the vertical back. Most power lifters squat low bar.
Or a breasts contact point if you're teaching the "other" 50% of the population.
What is he speaking about, if he cannot stay on his legs!
I'm not clear on how this helps anyone learn how to squat correctly.
Just try it and you will understand
Sarah Rose except that it doesn't work and ignores the basics of how a squat is actually done.
And I'm not clear on how it's not clear to you how this video is informative.
Shaleen Dalal, it's real simple. This doesn't have anything to do with properly squatting.
I tried goblet with the weights under my ankle and form was much much better
Your back isn't straight in the squat. This is old, so hope you improved.
È sicuramente competente, però c'ha il fisico da passeggiatore di cani.
