  • When you imagine a fight with a katana, you would probably imagine swinging the blade. But depending on the situation, you could actually use your legs too to kick or step on the opponent or their katana.
    So today, Seki sensei, the 22nd headmaster of Asayama Ichiden Ryu with 400 years of history, will introduce to us 4 Kata which includes techniques of stepping on the opponent. Not only katana techniques, but there are also sickle and Mutō no sword techniques, so please watch this video until the end to learn about them all.

    This is like the Mikiri counter in Sekiro

      LOL. That one isn't quite realistic, but I found a way to pull it off IRL.
      I was sparring spear vs spear and I gladly admit, even relatively light spears (compared to that 4m long Jumonji Yari in Sekiro, or all the big warheads on polearms as many opponents carry in the game) will quickly tire your arms and make you exhausted.
      Now, the opponent was committing to a downwards cut and missing me he would have overswung as well (form goes out of the window pretty fast in sparring), but I deflected it with my spear and gave it an additional impulse downwards so that he basically hit the dirt with his spear. I then stepped on the spear and it fell onto the floor with my opponent bending over. I was so proud until the owner of the spear yelled at me...

    0:11. Interesting thing is that the Italian City States of the Renaiss developed a similar style of boxing. It focused on pinning the opponent in place via stepping on their foot and then punching the opponent that is now temporarily stuck in place.

  • @edi9892
    @edi9892 Рік тому +1

    I was surprised that it didn't feature ankle breaks. If you step on the opponent's foot and he falls in a certain way, it will break his ankle!
    I've seen a nasty variation of the ankle stepping, where a neck crank ensues twisting the entire spine and making the opponent lose his balance. It would break the ankle and possibly damage the spine just from the fall alone, but it can become lethal by a chop to the throat or a stab to the chest giving the impulse to cause him to lose his balance...

    5:23 if someone tries to rob the sensei in a small, dark street, while Seki san goes home after a training, the robber will have a hard time, doing their best to survive. The robbery itself will be pointless at this point, because the attacker would be fighting for their life. 😂
