Solid picks
as for bergman, it must have been his chamber films because of the spider on the cover
she's also holding a Pierre Etaix box set.
She has the Pierre Etaix set when she's talking about Certified Copy too. Another great set of films.
Clearly an Isabelle Huppert fan & who can blame her? One of the great dramatic actresses.
Love Isabelle Huppert too.
Agree also I’d add cate Blanchett
It's insane she wasn't even nominated at this year oscar for best actress. Her performance was so beautiful, natural, raw, and emotionally resonate to all of us. We knew that her character made lot of mistakes or questionable decisions in the movie (the worst person in the world)but somehow we never feel judgemental because like all of us, she just a flawed human being. Beautiful.
What was the movie? Never heard of her before
@@ihatekillerclowns the worst person in the world
I have no idea who she is
I don't think is really posiible, maybe some european award, but academy award, no way :D
@@tungngoctran2718 she did win the best actress at cannes
Nothing brings me more joy than seeing people go to the criterion closet and acting like a kid in the candy store.
🎥👌
How many times will you comment.. literally the same thing..i don't understand you man..i truly don't..you sir are an enigma
@@seminalzing6358 Nothing brings me more joy than seeing people go to the criterion closet and acting like a bull in the china shop.

Guys, please bring back the handheld shooting style for these closet videos! I don't like the static impersonal wide shots, I like feeling like I'm actually in the room with these people!
Her picks and explanations for them are incredible. What a gem.
Her first pick being Mirror is something that can be so personal to me 😭😭😭😭
Now i want her to star in a Paul Thomas Anderson film
Two Huppert picks! Pickpocket and Bresson thumbs up! Breson's models as he called them greatly expanded the way people could be portrayed through their movements and the camera focusing on hands, feet, shifting the focus away from just facial expressions.
Absolutely loved this Criterion closet video!! It was so great seeing Renate Reinsve choose some of her favorite movies from the Criterion Collection! 🎥 After seeing her performance from Worst Person in the World, I was absolutely captivated by her talent in film! That was indeed a movie I loved very much due to the themes of life decisions, confusion of adulthood, maintaining relationships, etc. Worst Person in the World was indeed a movie that made me reflect on life and adulthood and what it means to follow your passions or commit to relationships. It’s a movie that was definitely uniquely directed and I’m also glad Renate got the Cannes Award for her performance!! 💙🎥 So glad Worst Person in the World is finally out on Criterion!!
Cannot wait to see her more in future films. The Worst Person in the World is my favorite 2021 film.
absolutely brilliant selection! Very good taste, I hope to see her go far
She chose some of my favourite films of all time and some of my favourite filmmakers ever. No wonder she gave one of the best performances of the year in The Worst Person in the World.
LOL.
wow kendall your a simp arent ya
Nice to see Mulholland Dr mentioned
I always immediately click on closet videos whenever the come out
Coming into the Criterion Closet with a Janus Film totebag is the epitome of cool.
I'm so happy to see the love for Tarkovsky. There is hope! Interesting list otherwise. I don’t think I've any of her other picks yet. 🎸👍
she's charming and beautiful and she killed it in The Worst Person. wow.
I tell anyone who loves Mulholland Dr. to watch Lost Highway if they haven't... I've always preferred it, yet it didn't get anywhere near the acclaim of Mulholland. They're masculine/feminine flip sides of the same coin to me, but Highway was always meant to be a film, whereas Mulholland was a rejected TV pilot that had to be finished as a film.
Sadly, Lost Highway was kind of written off by critics.
Completely agree
Lost Highway is great, but Mulholland Drive is just something else. The humor, the horror elements, the old school Hollywood elements, the mystery elements, the wider assortment of eccentric characters, the surrealistic aspects, the themes, the style in which the movie is shot, some of which are not found in Lost Highway and some of which that were probably due to it being a rejected tv pilot. It's so much more unique and original. That's not a knock to Lost Highway. Again, Lost Highway is great, but Mulholland Drive is definitely in its own tier.
Yer in luck -- Lost Highway is showing all over town in a new restoration -- that is, if you're in Southern Cali. OTOH, it ought to be showing up all over the place, maybe, I guess, who knows? Mr. Lynch is doing a daily weather report if you didn't already know.
@@tectorgorch8698 that LOST HIGHWAY 4K restoration was great! One of the benefits of living in Los Angeles.
@@emmanuelsalazar9424 I will hunt it down in Glendale since the Playhouse 7 in Pasadena has apparently been murdered at last by the real estate cocksuckers after 23 years on Colorado Bl.
This human is so elegant it blows my mind.
When the first pick is The Mirror you know it’s going to be a good episode
The Mirror of Andreï Tarkovsky (Андрей Тарковский) is one of the best Russian movies of all time 💖
It's utterly mesmerising
Best movies in general!
It’s amazing!!!!
Her performance in the worst person in the world is amazing my favorite actress
Always fun to see what people pick for their favorites.
So many great talents have grabbed that Renoir Stage & Spectacle box "for the road," seems like a great pick for re-release on hi-def formats, no? Beautiful, rich Technicolors, sets, and costumes in those films.
I am loving these videos! For whatever reason i love listening to peope explain why they love something so much, but at levels far beyond my level of appreciation!
I loved her depth of knowledge.
she picked the best titles!! one of the best guests ever! shes so charming. i didnt want this to end. cant wait to see the movie.
I love her picks and I adore her. Worst Person is one of my new all-time favorites, her performance is incredible!
Watched The Worst Person in the World on an international flight and was laughing so hard and then crying and I'm sure the people around me thought I was nuts. Can't wait to get the Criterion Collection edition.
Also, one day I will have my very own Criterion Closet. #ADreamIsAWishYourHeartMakes
It's a wonderful film. I don't want to give anything away but there is a scene late in the film with Renate and the character Aksel (Anders Danielsen Lie) where they are outside having a conversation at a picnic table that is incredibly moving, so beautifully written and acted. Definitely my next Criterion purchase.
i also watched this on a flight... bad idea lol. felt like i had to hold in my tears and laughter
Tarkovsky, Bresson, Bergman and Huppert...a woman after my own heart.
Best selections/taste I’ve seen in a closet video so far
What an absolutely lovely woman, love her explanations
Certified Copy!! One of the greatest ever made about what love is.
Renate is a beautiful actress and she has come from very troubled beginnings in life. Would happily love to work with her on a film project. Just wished Criterion had used a better boom mic to record this or hired me.
Need a Lynch movie starring her so badly
i would lose my mind if this collaboration ever happened
Too late lol
@REGGIE JOHNSON because lunch has stopped making movies.
@REGGIE JOHNSON He announced his retirement in 2017
one of the Academy’s newest members / voters showing off her immaculate tastes and sensibilities in this closet vid! I love what she shared about worst person in the world in relation to one of her selections “pickpocket”: they tried to see how ‘little’ they could do. I like that; how natural or minimal can the acting be, to make it as pure and ‘real’ as possible. bresson is the gift that keeps giving! also loved the double Isabelle Huppert selections. from one cannes best actress winner to the other!
Tarkovsky is her all time favourite director
Yes, we heard it.
so sweet and loving the closet
Finally, someone who doesn’t just take like two or three movies because they’re being polite. She made out with no less than 8 titles, and two of those were “trilogies”. She absolutely raided the closet!
Her tastes are EXACTLY the same as mine. Throughout the video I was for some reason thinking of the Bergman spider God trilogy and she picked it right there at the end!
Renate Reinsve, uma das melhores atrizes atuais!
i love her and i love her selections.
So passionate and articulate about film! Would love to see more of these.
"When I was young". Oh boy, to be "old" like her :) She has exceptional taste.
Finally someone choose Mulholland Drive. It's already a timeless classic worthy of multiple viewings.
Renate stole the show in The Worst Person in the World. Happy she was rewarded at Cannes for this performance. Great picks!
If I ever got invited to the criterion closet, a bag wouldn’t be enough, I’d have to rent a transit van
At first, when she introduced herself, I thought she was going to say, "Hello, my name is Renate Reinsve and I'm ... the worst person in the world..."
Love how she is supposed to finish but keeps geeking out over new films
She is *SO CUTE!*
Wow, every film she picked (except the Claire Denis one, I have only seen Beau Travail and loved it) is one of my favorites! I'd love to see a long list of her other favorite films because I need more recommendations!!!
White Material is fantastic! Huge recommend!
man she is so beautiful.
There’s something about having a room of movies, physical copies to touch and reflect on that steaming services will never come close to. I’ve found more peace in the movie aisles of libraries because they remind me of being at the local rental stores growing up, unfortunately that experience has been antiquated, but I’ll always have the memories.
Glad to hear that she watched Mulholland Dr. in a theater, and not on her F**KING PHONE!!!!
cadinho is correct. See, what you are seeing, is the views of talented people and what MOVES THEM in film and what films they like....AND WHY. So, you learn! And then i and others see the movies and we grow emotionally and in wisdom and understand art! By far, this is my most favorite part of this channel. I cannot believe I only discovered this channel a year ago. I feel like I MISSED OUT on a key part of my learning in life. My god, I wish I knew more about film and Broadway.
Joakim Trier also choose White Material, and took way more films by the way 😊
The way she defined Bresson's Pickpocket clearly shows her CINEMA sense....lovely
She has great taste indeed.
Best episode
exactly a week ago i got my criterion of worst person in the world so this was a nice bonus
Want a challenge? Try not to fall in love with this dream woman from a fairy tale.. Mayday! Mayday!.. I'm falling down..
Great picks Certified Copy and Piano Teacher
She is a delight.
Perfect to watch before the B&N -50% sale ✨️
Amazon, too! (i.e., the Blu Rays)
She was incredible in TWPITW.
Loved the worst person in the world in the closet
I could definitely see why people would go mad trying to understand Mulholland Drive. What a trip.
I've watched it for the first time during the night before the next day that I had to go to college. To say that I couldn't concentrate at all during my classes is saying very little of how I was feeling. I couldn't believe what I had watched the other night. It was so unreal that I thought it was just a dream and I was questioning what is real/reality and what is not. It was one of most mindblowing and unforgettable experience that I had in all of my life, almost as if I've taken some acid or something like that
@@lukeizabelle2131 I can relate. I felt something similar watching 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.' Which scene from Mulholland Drive tripped you the most? For me, it was the bedroom scene when everything suddenly paused.
@@Stratword_ Probably the Club Silencio scene🙂
*takes two extra boxes and rushes to make sure she gets away with them*
What a lovely, lovely woman (sigh). But WOW!!! Renate's tastes in movies?!! She's just as lovely on the inside...
She's nearly perfection, a real aesthetic's dream.
How? I mean, there’s nothing wrong about her, but I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near perfection, either. What makes you say that? I guess it is truly in the eye of the beholder.
Is she the most gorgeous woman ever? YES 1:39
Great picks!
excellent, starts with Tarkovsky
Oh the irony of picking up all these brilliant movies - and not being able to see them because of region locking...
Right off the bat, I thought, ok, yea, she's a very beautiful and articulate woman, but then she had to go and pick Mulholland Drive, be still my heart, my perfect woman...
You should put exact links to each film on your shop
Great Picks, I Can See My Fav Works
she's super cute
Invite James Gray 🙏
It’s impressive the way she holds that mug at 2:19
Great picks.
3:20 me at the end of every flash sale lol
this cutepie eurpean actress: "oh i love Claire Denis sensibilty" * she picks up White Material* LMAO good luck with that
Shes so cute
Another thoughtful actor - I think in later years she will direct if she has not done so. Scandinavians tend to be good with getting foreign words and accents right! Very enjoyable.
Cool. Been meaning to see her movie. Even more reason now.
she is literally me
Renoir! Some good taste.
Does everyone in Europe own a region free player? I just imagine the non-Americans who get to do the closet getting home with a bag of DVD's or Blu-rays that don't play.
I mean she's in america to record this video, presumably she'll be spending some time here.
Is that still a thing? I had not even thought about it
She could have a region free Blu-ray player as well. Easily purchased.
I forgot Norwegian's speak English too 😂
Could not be more based
"Newly restorated."
Bless her heart.
She got tasteeee
At your service my queen
Great taste!
Doubles her lift in the last 10 secs. :)
She also had Pierre Etaix in her hand.
A woman of taste and culture.
