As a service technician with over 30 years of experience with European home appliances I must point some errors you made in this video. When checking the speed of the motor the Electronic board (Electronic Timer) does not read the voltage from Tacho generator but the frequency because it is much more accurate! The same is the case with analog electronic pressure switches (Pressostats). About the TRIAC you got it all wrong. You described it's function as BJT transistor - the more current thru the gate (Base) the faster the motor will turn. Triac's are activated at specific point in time in regard to sinusoidal wave of the mains voltage. This is called triggering or firing ANGLE. Let's say the sinusoidal wave is at 0 and it starts to go up in positive half periode, when it reach the top we send the firing signal to the gate and from that moment on the Triac will conduct the current (at this point it is no longer relevant if the firing signal is still present at the gate or not) until the wave comes back down to 0 again then it will cut off. We repeat the same when the wave goes down in negative half periode. That way the motor will rotate at half speed because we trigger the Triac at the half of the wave length. So by changing the firing angle of the Triac's gate we change the speed of the motor. The sooner you trigger the gate the more time during the periode the Triac will conduct and the opposite is true, if you trigger the gate later the less time the Triac will conduct which will result in lower speed. The triggering or firing angle can be from 0 to 180 degrees because that's the length of the half period (negative or positive). 0 degrees firing angle = 100% motor speed and 180 degrees = 0% motor speed.
The Idea of the video is just to explain how the washing machine motor work clockwise and anti clockwise, I didn't discuss the indepth logics of electronics used in circuit.
@debelix, 100% true. Also regarding Pressostats, I've seen models where there is a membrane that gets pushed by means of pressure, it moves a coil along with it, and the circuit is built around a 4060 IC which results in a change of frequency. Some older models have the 4060 chip on the washing machine's main board, rather than inside of the Pressostats themselves. And you are also right about the triac thingie, you described the triac functioning correctly, while the author of the video repeatedly treated it as a BJT instead! If the main focus of the video is just to show how we change the direction of the rotation, then they should have only mentioned that the triac serves to change the motor's speed...
The funny thing is that the guy was apparently connecting the multineter to something else while pretending to be measuring the voltage from the tacho 😂 the rotor was clearly at rest!
Magical or animations still antedating me though , good to learn deeper knowledge with oscilloscopes demonstrations ! I thought there was micro controller program as well , direct drive would be more complicated as there was 3 phase AC motor that need power inverter . Compare able to electric car and e bike control module!

Thank you very much for your work and sharing. I build up a 555 flip flop to make my washing machine motor work with the circuit you explained here. It works both directions but when we come to use it in the machine; since it doesn't wait the clockwise turn before starting the counterclockwise turn, the motor heats up in a very short period of time. Do you have any proposal to make it wait the turning stops before it changes the rotation ? Thank you for your time and interest. Best wishes.
In the USA, most modern washing machines with microprocessor control use 3 phase motors with variable frequency motors. And they also have a feedback system for the "taco" or tachometer
I have watched so many videos on this field so far but I hadn't seen a video that explains this matter as accurate as you did. That was exceptionally practical and useful! I just can't thank you enough!
Thank you sir, but my problem is that my washing machine motherboard is faulty can you help me show me how to make the motor work in forward and reverse direction with the help of relay. 😊
My friend in Kolkata Port opened a container of waste electricals from the UK and Chopper jumped out, he was brandishing a claw bar, he jumped up on the container roof and started hunting other containers to bust out other stowaways.
In some modules in addition to relays and triac, we have a bridge diode and the motor uses dc voltage. Also the relays are parallel and both turn on and off together. Could you explain about them?
As so often, two answered questions open three new ones: why is the Motorspeed changed by different triac positions ("fire angles"). I thought if the voltage supply is 50Hz (1200rpm), the triac does not change that, it only deforms the sinusoidal voltage form.
This is a universal motor with Multiple taps that control speed . Relays are used for forward and reverse control - clockwise and anticlockwise motion. On 3 phase induction motors - frequency control is used and controlled by an inverter
If the motor is driven by the "AC" current sine wave through the Triac , the control board monitors the frequency of AC current coming back from the of Taco sensor and controls the current going to the triac "Gate" by regulating the current feed sent to the triac's gate it can control the Triac's switching point , as the AC sine wave coming into the triac varys from zero volts ramping up to full line voltage then back to zero again. if the Triac cuts of the current half way up the sine wave of say 100 volts AC you would be feeding the motor only 50 volts ,, so the motor would run at only half of its full power level,, the control board can constantly reference the Taco frequency to control the motors "desired" rotation speed..the motor has two sets of field windings , one is wound to drive the motor "clockwise" the second set , is configured so that the motor will run counter clockwise, (Desired rotation direction) As said the relays select which of the field winding are selected (rotate CW or CCW) , The Triac then controls how much power the motor is given to control its "desired" speed.. for the actions the washing machine is carrying out out the time.. The washers control circuts that drive the Triac send a pulse to the gate of the triac to turn it on. "But" that circuit can send the pulse so that it turns on after the sine wave has dropped to half its voltage . once the voltage in the AC sine wave drops to zero the Triac will automatically turn off the power flow. waiting for the next pulse to turn it on again ,, timing the turn on pulse at different points gets you more or less power.ua-cam.com/video/9He-d-IdRQY/v-deo.html
This motor is called “universal” motor because in fact is a DC motor that can be driven from AC voltages. They don’t have CCW and CW coils, just the stator winding and the rotor (field) winding. This kind of motor can be easily controlled by changing the voltage (that is what the phase cutting triac is doing). From the schematics he has drawn the rotor coil is in series with the stator, that gives a high starting torque and high speed
When are you producers going to realize that using computer generated narration ruins an otherwise good video. AI, as it is erroneously called, is brutal and often makes no sense and cannot be followed. This is the case here.
Its a Triac NOT a Transistor learn how they work. Be a good idea to check on the RPM sensor too, the V is incidental proportional to RPM but its the FREQUENCY thats used and important to generate pulses to drive the triac.
Dear remaining two points are for 12 dc volts coil to energize the relay to connect disconnect the point i had showed in the video soon we will release video on relay topic in english but if you are intersted visit to my hindi channel video and you find answer of your question ua-cam.com/video/QCJcUB7Zlsc/v-deo.html

Thank you for responding. Please that this as constructive criticism. I do realize that any interaction (even comments) improves the YT algorithm for you. So perhaps the interaction helps you build your channel. But, a computer generated voice is no better than reading a web page since the computer voice lacks vocal queues that can show uncertainty or confidence in the points being conveyed that are not evident in the mere text. So the way I see it, without a real person telling me what they think and why, with appropriate inflection, my time is better spent reading authoritative technical manuals.
Well, it varies person to person. Some one would watch the video till the end just to get the knowledge, I got the point. These Ai voices don't have the depth and feel the real person could give. But the thing is who is seeking for knowledge he would neglect the voice and get the knowledge instead. I love your criticism, I know the manuals could be better then watching a computer generated video. But even I didn't find the things which I needed in the manuals. I learn it through experiencing it. And that's what I am trying to share, Have a good luck for the rest of the day, Regards
