Man the banter between these two brings such a smile to my face, if any of us make it to that age and still have a friendship like that consider yourself blessed. RIP
I have 8 tattoos by devita. some were good and some not so good. he would tell me I had tuff. skin. I remember when he lived on 8st bet ave c&d. then he moved to 4th st. bet c&d. l remember him showing me the dragon on his back done by huck Spalding. It was a beautiful piece. he told me it cost him $350.00. that piece by today's standards would cost thousands of dollars. my work was underground at the time. I also met his friend freddy a few times. it seems he was always their. RIP thom.
I always love seeing older people's tattoos, there's some really cool history and stories behind some of it, especially when tattoos were still not as socially accepted.
Most of you should realize that this guy played a huge role in getting tattooing to where it is today. Without this guy and the many other artists who tattooed back then there wouldn't be this explosion of tattooing there is today! At least pay some homage to this man!
I remember thom telling me that his dream was to tattoo the whole lower Eastside. then he would laugh about it with that divita laugh of his. R.I.P. old friend.
i like how thom and nick bicker and snap at each oter like they're still in there 20's to 30's and they get on each others back like best friends are true friends right there
it's just you. you have to understand, tattoos weren't so mainstream 40, 50, 60 years ago, back when devita was in his prime. he's underrated because he was never recognized for pioneering and instilling a form of art that wasn't by the book like it is nowadays. if you actually watch the documentary, he adds life to images that are otherwise artistically bland or redundant.
I see his genius, he's able to make it "just work" synchronize it it's brilliant really if you have a good sense of how tattooing has evolved he's what I would call an "original" without this guy there wouldn't be that influence today these hotshots had put out through the years
Let';s all be robots and conform to your idea of what art is. Please tell us how to think. Please, before it's too late. I cannot wait. It is very exciting, awaiting your decree.
jakesweet1000 Vice has been going for a very long time. they were originally a magazine but have expanded over the years. The Vice empire consists of a record label, magazine, media, film production.
That would be due to their not existing yet. Pretty sure they only put up one a week. Sometimes they'll upload a few at once, but generally not for their popular episodes like this here.
of course nowadays his work is worn, but do you know someone from his generation who can do such art, besides sailor jerry etc? you dont like his art? well... neither do i but think about what would be your comment on his work if you were living in 1960s or 70s :))
It's called taste. People are different! Ta daa! Of course it's not 'overrated'. What a bizarre concept. And what's with the "lets move on"? What the fuck is "lets"? We ain't on a road trip with you as the merry conductor for goodness sake. You move on. Those of us who appreciate his work, will.
well, i guess during his time it was innovative. overrated he might be, but you can't question that the guy is an artist, and he's happy just doing what he does. and it's all that matters imo.
"You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together." Leviticus 19:19 So i hope you dont wear polyester or anything like that!
i still watch all parts every year Thom was a true genius .

I always love seeing older people's tattoos, there's some really cool history and stories behind some of it, especially when tattoos were still not as socially accepted.
