As for the reason why the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fasted on the day of ‘Ashura’ and urged the people to do likewise, it is mentioned in the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (1865) from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Ashura’. He said, “What is this?” They said, “This is a good day, this is the day when Allaah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy and Moosa fasted on this day.” He said, “We are closer to Moosa than you.” So he fasted on this day and told the people to fast.

Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim are the two most revered Sunni books. The followers of these books claim that these are Sahih (all the traditions mentioned in these books are authentic and correct).
Let us see in short what these two books have mentioned regarding the conduct of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) with respect to mourning over the dead.
Let us first see the tradition from Sahih-e-Muslim:
Umme Salamah reported, “When Abu Salamah died I said, “I am a stranger in a strange land; I shall weep for him in a manner that would be talked of. I made preparation for weeping for him when a woman from the upper side of the city came there who intended to help me (in weeping). She happened to come across the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) who said, “Do you intend to bring the devil into a house from which Allah has twice driven him out? I (Umme Salamah), therefore, refrained from weeping and I did not weep. (Book #004, Hadith #2007)
In the above tradition the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) has prohibited weeping over the dead for it brings the devil into the house.
Now let us see what is mentioned in Bukhari.
Narrated Anas bin Malik, “We were (in the funeral procession) of one of the daughters of the Prophet and he was sitting by the side of the grave. I saw his eyes shedding tears.” (Book #23, Hadith #374)
From the above tradition we see that the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) wept for his daughter.
      Analysis
      1. Both books are claimed to be Sahih and authentic.
      2. There are contradictory traditions in each book.
      3. As per one tradition the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) is prohibiting from crying over the dead while as per the other he himself is crying over his dead daughter.
      4. So either one of the books is not Sahih or the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) is not practicing what he is preaching.
      5. If only one of the books is Sahih, then the authenticity of the other is in doubt.
      6. If both are Sahih, then the authenticity of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) is in doubt.

The Reason of Imam 's Revolution :
It was necessary that the nation should learn about the true Islamic conception of the Imamate; it's true role and its dimensions. The dangerous effects of undermining the Islamic conceptions which was played by the Ummayad rule was never emerging from the grass root level, but rather from the high levels of leadership that monopolized all means of guidance. Therefore, in accordance with the demands of the Islamic message, and the qualities that have to be available in a Muslim ruler, Imam Hussain (A.S.) had to explain these issues to the Muslim masses in every speech he made or any other opportunity he had: "O people you have to be pious believers, and know the right. That is better for you. We the members of the family of Muhammad (Ahl ul-Bait) are more entitled to be the rulers than those who claim what is not rightfully theirs; those oppressors and tyrants".

Imam Husayn's revolution set a lively example as to the duty of Muslims in such conditions. It had deeply penetrated peoples’ hearts and produced great pains within them for not doing their Islamic duty. This feeling which pained people all the time transformed into repentance and then to an open revolt against the Umayyad's regime. Thus, the revolution provided the stimulant to move their spirit and set it in a dynamic movement. Indeed, the Islamic movement was put to a new gear throughout the rest of the Islamic history.

It is a combination of many verses, muttawatir hadiths, and historical patterns that existed with previous prophets and common sense. When I connect the dots, I know who the 12 are and they come from the prophets (pbuh) his family. It is clear that the caliphate/immamte is an unbroken chain of people and if they are all from Quresh it is incompatible with the history of who the Caliphs are up until 1924 when the caliphate was abolished.

Brother adnan conveniently “FORGOT” to mention the ‘Raavis / narrators’ of the reports he based his whole video on claiming that Imam Hussain was actually trapped by koofis and so he was looking for a way out and thus he asked umer to take him to yazeed for baiyyah but ibn ziyad insisted that Imam Hussain must do baiyyah on his (ubaidullah ibn ziyad) hand first to which Imam Hussain said no and thus Karbala happened. So I respectfully want to ask some questions to brother adnan.
The ravis / narrators of the above mentioned report are ‘zakriya bin yahya’ and ‘khalid bin Abdullah al-kasri’. My question to brother adnan is that ‘what is the status of these Raavis / narrators? Isn’t zakriya bin yahya considered “maj-hool” which makes him a not to be trusted narrator according to ‘ilmurijal’? As for ‘khalid bin Abdullah al-kasri’, was he not the governor of Makkah and used to do ‘la’anah’ on Imam Ali from the pulpits of Makkah? Was he not an openly known “Nasibi”? Didn’t Imam zahbi mentioned him as a Nasibi? So should we be taking narrations from an open enemy of Imam Ali regarding the actions of Imam Hussain and why karbala happened? For those who don’t know, a nasibi is someone who has hatred for the Family of Rasulullah (P.B.U.H).
It’s hard for me to believe that a scholar like brother adnan did not know the authenticity of these baseless stories but I am still keeping the Husn-e-zann for him and I demand that he comes forward and corrects me if I am wrong and corrects himself if I am not. I am also attaching a link to the clip of a famous scholar from Pakistan Maulana Muhammad is-haq (late) in this regard. Although the clip is in urdu but given that many if not all of brother adnan’s followers understand urdu, I hope it helps in sha ALLAH. In my 2nd comment I’ll ask some more questions to brother adnan regarding Imam Hussain and the incident of Karbala in sha ALLAH as I don’t know if youtube allows such lengthy comments in a single go. “Wassalam”

Brother i would advise You to watch the video of Yasir Qadih on this topic. Although he failed to present Imam Hussain AS nobely yet the references he gave are authentic, and i Checked them, and he(Yasir Qadih) too says that the lion piece of the massacre does goes to Kufis, Ubaidullah bin ziyad and those who used the sword against Him AS. i can provide you some of the references , plz check for Yourself in the books and then believe.
I would prefer hardcopy rather than believing in Shaikhs and also one of the Hadees they(those who say Yazeed issued orders to kill) put forward is by someone name "Amr bin yahya bin said bin amr bin said" now if you search this name than now body is well known by it not even the Google recognizes it. And the false hadees they narrate is as follow.
For our purposes today, we shall dwell upon only those Traditions reported in Sahih Bukhari. As known by the majority of the people, to the Sunnis as well as the Wahabis, this book is regarded as the most authentic, surpassed only by the Holy Quran. To them, Traditions from this book are most reliable, beyond any doubt!
In Tradition Number 180 on page 147 of Volume Nine, it is stated that: “Amr bin Yahya bin Said bin Amr bin Said said: ‘My grandfather narrated to me thus: I was in the company of Abu Hurayra and Marwan in the mosque of the Prophet (S) in Madina. Abu Hurayra then said: I heard the truthful and trusted by Allah (i.e. the Prophet (S)) saying, “The destruction of my followers will be through the hands of young men from Quraish.” Marwan retorted: ‘May the curse of Allah be on these youths.’ Abu Hurayra said: If I could, I would have named these youths, and their parentage.’ Accompanied by my grandfather, I went to Syria to meet the progeny of Marwan at the time when they were the rulers there. Whenever my grandfather saw that these rulers were young men, he would tell us: Probably, these are among them (those young men mentioned by the Prophet (S)), and we used to reply, saying, You know better than us’.” this hadees if You search in Sahih Bukhari, You won't find it ! Don't believe Shaykh , read Your Sahih muslim and Sahih bukhari thoroughly, Jazak ALLAH Khair. The kufans fabricated such hadees only to transfer their crime to Yazeed. Yazeed on the other hand did opposed Imam Hussain AS but didn't issue for them to be killed ! He expressed neither joy nor sorrow yet he didn't held the killers accountable. He does has his share but not the lion's share ! Also he Respected the Prophets lineage that he allowed them to go back safe and sound. The kufans really fabricated just to put their sins on others.
A question I would ask You, why didn't Al Hussain AS gathered army to fight as soon as Yazeed was appointed ? It was the kufans who said that Yazeed didn't diserve the authority which was true as he wasn't pious. But if they agreed to fight, why did they back off. Someone who makes two non muslims fight is a culprit. So why aren't the kufans ?

Narrated Al-Hasan Al-Basri: By Allah, Al-Hasan bin `Ali led large battalions like mountains against Muawiya. `Amr bin Al-As said (to Muawiya), I surely see battalions which will not turn back before killing their opponents. Muawiya who was really the best of the two men said to him, O `Amr! If these killed those and those killed these, who would be left with me for the jobs of the public, who would be left with me for their women, who would be left with me for their children? Then Muawiya sent two Quraishi men from the tribe of `Abd-i-Shams called `Abdur Rahman bin Sumura and `Abdullah bin 'Amir bin Kuraiz to Al-Hasan saying to them, Go to this man (i.e. Al-Hasan) and negotiate peace with him and talk and appeal to him. So, they went to Al-Hasan and talked and appealed to him to accept peace. Al-Hasan said, We, the offspring of `Abdul Muttalib, have got wealth and people have indulged in killing and corruption (and money only will appease them). They said to Al-Hasan, Muawiya offers you so and so, and appeals to you and entreats you to accept peace. Al-Hasan said to them, But who will be responsible for what you have said? They said, We will be responsible for it. So, whatever Al- Hasan asked they said, We will be responsible for it for you. So, Al-Hasan concluded a peace treaty with Muawiya. Al-Hasan (Al-Basri) said: I heard Abu Bakr saying, I saw Allah's Apostle on the pulpit and Al-Hasan bin `Ali was by his side. The Prophet was looking once at the people and once at Al-Hasan bin `Ali saying, 'This son of mine is a Saiyid (i.e. a noble) and may Allah make peace between two big groups of Muslims through him.
Sahih bukhari hadees 2704. Read for Yourself and then believe, Jazakmullah Khair. Don't blindly believe the shaykhs.

      Praise be to Allaah.
His name was Yazeed ibn Mu’aawiyah ibn Abi Sufyaan ibn Harb ibn Umayaah al-Umawi al-Dimashqi.
Al-Dhahabi said: he was the commander of that army during the campaign against Constantinople, among which were people such as Abu Ayyoob al-Ansaari. Yazeed was appointed by his father as his heir, so he took power after his father died in Rajab 60 AH at the age of thirty-three, but his reign lasted for less than four years.
Yazeed is one of those whom we neither curse nor love. There are others like him among the khaleefahs of the two states (Umawi/Umayyad and ‘Abbaasi/Abbasid) and the governors of various regions, indeed there were some among them who were worse than him. But the issue in the case of Yazeed is that he was came to power forty-nine years after the death of the Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him); it was still close to the time of the Prophet and some of the Sahaabah were still alive such as Ibn ‘Umar who was more entitled to the position than him or his father or his grandfather.
His reign began with the killing of the martyr al-Husayn and it ended with the battle of al-Harrah, so the people hated him and he was not blessed with a long life. There were many revolts against him after al-Husayn, such as the people of Madeenah who revolted for the sake of Allaah, and Ibn al-Zubayr.
      (Siyar A’laam al-Nubalaa’, part 4, p. 38)
Shaykh al-Islam described people’s attitudes towards Yazeed ibn Mu’aawiyah, and said:
The people differed concerning Yazeed ibn Mu’aawiyah ibn Abi Sufyaan, splitting into three groups, two extreme and one moderate.
One of the two extremes said that he was a kaafir and a munaafiq, that he strove to kill the grandson of the Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to spite the Messenger of Allaah and to take revenge on him, and to avenge his grandfather ‘Utbah, his grandfather’s brother Shaybah and his maternal uncle al-Waleed ibn ‘Utbah and others who were killed by the companions of the Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), by ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib and others on the day of Badr and in other battles - and things of that nature. To have such a view is easy for the Raafidis who regard Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthmaan as kaafirs, so it is much easier for them to regard Yazeed as a kaafir.
The second extreme group think that he was a righteous man and a just leader, that he was one of the Sahaabah who were born during the time of the Prophet and were carried and blessed by him. Some of them give him a higher status than Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, and some of them regard him as a prophet. Both views are obviously false to one who has the least common sense and who has any knowledge of the lives and times of the earliest Muslims. This view is not attributable to any of the scholars who are known for following the Sunnah or to any intelligent person who has reason and experience.
The third view is that he was one of the kings of the Muslims, who did good deeds and bad deeds. He was not born until the caliphate of ‘Uthmaan. He was not a kaafir but it was because of him that the killing of al-Husayn happened, and he did what he did to the people of al-Harrah. He was not a Sahaabi, nor was he one of the righteous friends of Allaah. This is the view of most of the people of reason and knowledge and of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah.
Then they divided into three groups, one which cursed him, one which loved him and one which neither cursed him nor loved him. This is what was reported from Imaam Ahmad, and this is the view of the fair-minded among his companions and others among the Muslims. Saalih ibn Ahmad said: I said to my father, some people say that they love Yazeed. He said, O my son, does anyone love Yazeed who believes in Allaah and the Last Day? I said, O my father, why do you not curse him? He said, O my son, when did you ever see your father curse anybody?
Abu Muhammad al-Maqdisi said, when he was asked about Yazeed: according to what I have heard he is neither to be cursed nor to be loved. He said, I also heard that our grandfather Abu ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Taymiyah was asked about Yazeed and he said: we do not deny his good qualities or exaggerate about them. This is the fairest opinion.

Many of the reports which have been narrated about tribulations that occurred among the Muslims were narrated via single narrators (as opposed to a large number of narrators at each stage of the chain of transmission) who were either dubious, liars or unknown. It is not permissible for anyone to rely upon any of the reports narrated by such people, because they do not meet the standards of good character (that are required of narrators). Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe! If a rebellious evil person comes to you with a news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done” [al-Hujuraat 49:6].
Among these false reports is that which was narrated by at-Tabari in his Tareekh (5/461) and Ibn ‘Asaakir in Tareekh Dimashq (69/176), via Abu Makhnaf, from al-Haarith ibn Ka‘b, from Faatimah bint ‘Ali, who said:
When we were brought before Yazeed ibn Mu‘aawiyah, he felt sorry for us, issued instructions that something (food) be brought to us, and spoke gently to us. Then a ruddy-faced man from Syria stood up and said to Yazeed: O Ameer al-Mu’mineen, give me this one - meaning me, for I was a pretty young girl. I got scared, because I thought that they would not refrain from such a thing, and I held onto the garment of my sister Zaynab. My sister Zaynab was older and wiser than me, and she knew that that would not happen, so she said (to that man):
You are lying by Allah, you vile man! That is not for you or him. Yazeed got angry and said (to her): You are lying, by Allah! I may do that, and if I want to do it, I will do it. She said: No, by Allah. Allah has forbidden that for you, unless you leave our religion and follow some religion other than ours. Yazeed got angry and lost his temper, and he said: Are you speaking to me like that? Rather it is your father and your brother who have left the religion!
Zaynab said: Rather you, your father and your grandfather were guided by virtue of the religion of Allah, the religion of my father, the religion of my brother, the religion of my grandfather. He said: You are lying, O enemy of Allah! She said: You are a tyrant, who slanders people wrongfully and suppress them. By Allah, it was as if he felt ashamed, so he fell silent. Then the Syrian said again: O Ameer al-Mu’mineen, give me this girl. He said: Get out; may Allah strike you dead!
This was also narrated by Ibn Katheer in al-Bidaayah wa’n-Nihaayah (11/562) via Abu Makhnaf.
Abu Makhnaf’s full name is Loot ibn Yahya. Adh-Dhahabi said: He is a worthless narrator of stories; he is not to be trusted; he was ignored by Abu Haatim and others. Ad-Daaraqutni said: He is weak. Ibn Ma‘een said: He is not trustworthy. And he said, on one occasion: He is nothing. Ibn ‘Adiyy said: He is a fanatical Shi‘i, a narrator of their reports.
      Mizaan al-I‘tidaal.
So this report is a lie and is not sound.
The same applies to what they say about Yazeed ibn Mu‘aawiyah poking the teeth of al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) with a stick [after he had been killed and beheaded].
      Zaynab said to him:
Do you think, O Yazeed, after you have gained control over us and we have ended up being driven as slave women are driven, that we are insignificant to Allah and that you are honoured by Him, and that this was because you are of high status before Him, so you began to behave in an insolent manner and began to look at yourself with jubilant self-admiration? Is it fair, O son of the freed ones [people of Quraysh who were let off by the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) when they surrendered following the conquest of Makkah, despite their years of enmity towards him], to keep your womenfolk and slave women out of sight and to drive the daughters of the Messenger of Allah like prisoners of war, after you have torn their veils and forced them to show their faces, and their enemies drive them from one land to another?
This is something for which there is no basis in the books of the scholars; rather it is something that was narrated only by the Raafidis who are known for lying.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
What is proven in Saheeh al-Bukhaari is that the head of al-Husayn was brought and placed in front of ‘Ubaydullah ibn Ziyaad, who started poking at the teeth with a stick in the presence of Anas ibn Maalik.
In al-Musnad it says that this happened in the presence of Abu Barzah al-Aslami.
But some people narrated with an interrupted isnaad that this poking of the teeth happened in the presence of Yazeed ibn Mu‘aawiyah. This is false. End quote.
      Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (27/469)
      He also said:
Yazeed ibn Mu‘aawiyah was in Syria, and was not in Iraq at the time of the killing of al-Husayn. Whoever narrated that he poked his teeth with a stick in the presence of Anas and Abu Barzah, in front of Yazeed, is definitely lying, and his lie is well known on the basis of mutawaatir reports. End quote.
      Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (27/4 70)
      Secondly:
The well-known view is that Yazeed ibn Mu‘aawiyah did not issue orders for the killing of al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) and did not approve of it. He cursed Ibn Ziyaad for killing him, and he honoured the family of al-Husayn who had been with him during that march of his, and during their march back to Madinah. He did not detain them and keep them with him. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
Yazeed ibn Mu‘aawiyah was born during the caliphate of ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan (may Allah be pleased with him) and was not one of those who were well-known for religious commitment and righteousness. He was one of the Muslim youth, and he became caliph after his father’s death despite the objections of some of the Muslims and with the approval of others. He was courageous and generous, and he did not openly commit shameful deeds as his opponents said concerning him. During his reign several significant events occurred, one of which was the killing of al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him).
He did not issue orders that al-Husayn be killed, and he did not express joy at his killing, and he did not poke the teeth of al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) with a stick or carry the head of al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) to Syria. But he did issue orders that al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) be resisted and his efforts to become caliph were to be hindered, even if that meant fighting him.
His deputies went too far in following his commands, and ash-Shamar ibn Dhi’l-Jawshan incited ‘Ubaydullah ibn Ziyaad to kill him, so ‘Ubaydullah ibn Ziyaad attacked him. Al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) asked them to let him come to Yazeed, or go and guard the Muslim border, or to go back to Makkah.
But they did not allow him (may Allah be pleased with him) to do any of these things, and the only choice they gave him was to surrender to them, and Ziyaad ordered ‘Umar ibn Sa‘d to fight him, and they killed him unlawfully, him and a number of his family members (may Allah be pleased with them).
The killing of al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was a great calamity, for the killing of al-Husayn and of ‘Uthmaan before him were two of the greatest causes of tribulation in this ummah. They were killed by the worst of people before Allah.
When his family (may Allah be pleased with them) came to Yazeed ibn Mu‘aawiyah, he honoured them and let them go to Madinah. It was narrated that he cursed Ibn Ziyaad for killing him and said: I would have been content with the obedience of the people of Iraq, without the killing of al-Husayn. Yet despite that, he did not take any action to show disapproval of his killing or to avenge him, when he should have done that. So the Muslims criticised him for not doing what he should have done, in addition to other things.
As for his opponents, they added other lies and fabrications about him. End quote.
      Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (3/410)

@@HASA1107 absolutely, even though we don't believe in imamat we should def learn about the Prophets decendentants and how many were killed by Abbassids. I had to dig so deep to learn about all their lives and I'm still learning more about them and am ashamed that all the scholars and speakers I listen to have never even mentioned their names let alone talk about their lives. May Allah forgive them. I plan to make a Channel and putting out detail biographys on their lives as well Islamic history which is never taught because of how brutal it was. But people must know the truth about the past, it changes perspectives, and u learn the narratives of other sects as well and come to understand their opinions. Allah says in the Quran we should come to common grounds with Jews and Christians to worship allah alone putting aside differences, if that's for non Muslims, shouldn't we come to common terms with the Shia? Even sunni scholars say that if most of today's sunnis were alive during Alis time we would have def been shiat Ali, for he was right and Muwaiyah was wrong. This is my 2nd comment, here are a few more questions for brother adnan:
I am sure brother adnan knows about the Sahih Hadith in “Musnad Ahmad” where the Messenger of ALLAH (PBUH) told Imam Ali about the death of Imam Hussain and I am not surprised that brother adnan didn’t consider mentioning this hadith as doing so would have debunked the whole “Husain was trapped and was looking for a way out” narrative, I am posting this hadith in Arabic as well as in English with proper reference:
Syedna Abdullah bin Nujayy, the son of Abdullah narrates from his father who would carry the vessel of wudoo of Syedna Ali bin Abi Talib (during travel) that he was travelling with Syedna Ali bin Talib when he reached (the place of) Neenawa on his way to Siffin, he called out: O Abu Abdullah! (It was the surname of Syedna Husain bin Ali) Be patient on the banks of the Euphrates, O Abu Abdullah! Be patient on the banks of Euphrates." I said: "What happened, O Chief of the Believers!?" Syedna Ali bin Abi Talib said: "i entered upon the Prophet one day and (I saw) his eyes were flowing with tears. I said (anxiously): "Has someone upset you? why are your eyes flowing with tears?" The Messenger of Allah said: "No! But Jibreel left me a while ago and he gave me this news (from ALLAH) that Husain would be killed on the banks of Euphrates. Then he asked: "Would you like to see the dust of the place where Husain will fall? I said: Yes, show me! He gave a handful of dust, and i could not help but weep."
[Musnad Ahmad: 648 (Vol. 1), Sheikh Albani and Shekh Zubai Ali Zai said its chain is authentic]
My question to brother adnan is: Was Imam Hussain unaware of this prophecy of Rasulullah about his martyrdom? Of course him being not aware is out of question, so when he knew the whole time that he’ll be martyred in karbala why did he think that he was trapped and why was he trying to get away from the situation safely?
    “Wassalam”

    Hey Adnan,
at 15:00 you mention that they were fighting because they thought they were on the right, but I heard that they had agreed to peace when they met (the army of Ali and the army of Talha and Zubair), and announced that they were going to kill the killers of Uthman (RA on all of them)
Tragically, the killers of Uthman had a devious plan to escape punishment, as they started killing the people in their own camp at night which created mass confusion and started the battle between the two armies because each thought the others had attacked.
May Allah be pleased with the sahaba.

      Yazid’s forces were not Shias
To conclude the matter, it’s best to refer to the faith of the killers of Imam Husain (a.s.) both those directly and indirectly involved. If they were followers of the Ahle Bait (a.s.) then they were the Shias, else they were Muslims claiming to follow the Sunnah.
      1. Yazid ibn Muawiyah
Without doubt, the biggest contributor to the shedding of Imam Husain’s (a.s.) blood and its main proponent was Yazid b. Muawiyah. And there can be no two ways of his animosity and the animosity of his clansmen - the Bani Umayyah for the Bani Hashim. Under the circumstances, he was not a Shia of the Ahle Bait (a.s.) nor would he have liked to be referred to as such.
      2. Ubaydillah b. Ziyaad
Not having the courage to take on Imam Husain (a.s.) himself, Yazid got Ubaydillah to do the task for him just like his father Muawiyah got Ubaydillah’s father - Ziyaad to take on Imam Hasan (a.s.).
The progeny of Ziyaad harboured extreme animosity against the Ahle Bait (a.s.), so there is no question of them being the Shias of Ahle Bait (a.s.).
      3. Umar b. Saad
Since Ubaydillah also lacked the courage to confront Imam Husain (a.s.) he appointed Umar b. Saad for the task. Umar b. Saad also cannot be called a Shia given his father Saad b. Abi Waqqaas’s ambivalence towards Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) Ali b. Abi Talib and his refraining from giving him allegiance at a time when the entire Muslim nation with a few exceptions had given Ali (a.s.) their allegiance. Umar b. Saad was a cousin of Imam Husain (a.s.) but then so was Yazid. It is widely reported that Umar b. Saad undertook the crime of killing Imam Husain (a.s.) for the governorship of Ray (Suburb of Teheran, Iran). So there is no question of Umar b. Saad being a Shia of the Ahle Bait (a.s.).
After naming the three biggest names responsible for killing Imam Husain (a.s.) and establishing their religious credentials as so-called Muslims who practiced the Sunnah, we now turn to their henchmen who were involved in the battle of Karbala. For brevity we have highlighted only a few and interested readers can refer Tarikh-e-Tabair for more examples.
      4. Ka’b b. Jaabir
Ka’b b. Jaabir was a warrior in Umar b. Saad’s army in Karbala. He was the killer of Burair b. Khozair, one of Imam Husain’s (a.s.) respected companions.
He recited several couplets after Karbala to the effect that he had submitted his faith to the children of Abu Sufyan and wished to claim his reward from Ibne Ziyaad.
      4) Muzaahim b. Haaris
While battling Naafe b. Hilaal Jamali, a companion of Imam Husain (a.s.), in Karbala he declared:
      I am on Usman’s religion.
      (Taarikh-e-Tabari vol 6, p 229)
      5) Amr b. Hajjaaj
Amr b. Hajjaaj from Umar b. Saad’s army urged his soldiers to remain firm against those who abandoned religion i.e. Imam Husain’s (a.s.) army. Imam Husain (a.s.) rebuked him for his audacity.
      (Taarikh-e-Tabari vol. 6, p. 249)
      6) Shimr b. Ziljawshan
It is widely documented that it was Shimr who eventually killed Imam Husain (a.s.) when none dared to commit the heinous crime. Long before that, he was commanded explicitly by Ibne Ziyaad to take over the reins of the army if Umar b. Saad showed weakness in executing the plan to kill Imam Husain (a.s.).
Shimr was always a part of Ibne Ziyaad’s coterie in Kufa and there is no question of his being a Shia given his animosity for the Ahle Bait (a.s.), although he did fight on the side of Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) against Muawiyah in Siffeen. He was among the majority of the Muslims who took Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) as the fourth caliph and did not have any particular inclination towards Ali’s (a.s.) Mastership - the hallmark of a Shia.
      Who killed Imam Husain (a.s.)
We revisit this question to end the matter conclusively. It is clear from the evidences advanced that the responsibility of killing Imam Husain (a.s.) lies entirely on Yazid’s shoulders. For those who go by consensus (ijmaa), this is indeed the verdict of the ijmaa. Blaming Shias for the crimes of Yazid and Ubaydillah b. Ziyaad is not the verdict of the ijmaa, it is the verdict of a niche group of Muslims, who find themselves in a corner and have no place to look out of the sheer embarrassment of Imam Husain’s (a.s.) killing. The motley group of so-called Shias they hold responsible for the crime can hardly be described as such as we have proved.

Muawiya (ra) never rebelled against Ali (ra).
He was the cousin of the murdered Khalifa Uthman(ra) as well as the most powerful ruler of Islam at that time & was fully justified in demanding Justice against the killers of Uthman.
He never claimed the Khilafa for himself & waited 2 years for Ali (ra) to do something against the killers.
It was Ali (ra) who went out to fight against Muawiyah (ra) NOT the other way round.

    • @SanjeetGupta235
      @SanjeetGupta235 4 роки тому +2

Mi Khan Oh so he was not a rebel!? What about “Amaar bin Yaser being killed by the group of rebels” in Sahih Bukhari. And it is a well known fact he was killed in the battle of Siffin. And NO he is NOT justified to go to war with the Caliph. According to Sunni Hadith, he who rejects the caliph of his time dies a death of ignorance. You know what’s more stupid, Ayesha already fought a war before Muawiya. And she repented. Now you think a war on a larger scale should be fought for the exact same Reason? Also his army was the one that killed Amaar BIn Yaser ra 🤦‍♂️ The prophet is calling Muawiya the rebel. And he was inviting towards hellfire

    • @mikhan5191
      @mikhan5191 4 роки тому

@@SanjeetGupta235 - your hatred of Islam has blinded you!
Muawiyah (ra) DID NOT GO TO WAR against Ali (ra) as you claim! Nor has ANYBODY EVER justified this!
He was absolutely justified in demanding Justice against the murderers of the Khalifa Uthman (ra) because the Qur’an gave him that right as he was the Cousin of Uthman as well as being the Legal Authority to carry out the Retribution.
Do you know what the word "REBEL" / baghi means and WHO it refers to?
The Rebels are those who INVADED Madinah.
The Rebels are those that killed the Khalifa Uthman (ra).
The Rebels forced Ali (ra) to become the new Khalifa.
The Rebels are those that forced the remaining few Sahabis in Madina to give allegiance to Ali (ra).
The Rebels in Ali's army started the battle of Jamal /Camel against our Mother Aisha (ra) & the other Sahabas who were not in Madina.
The Rebels killed some of the greatest Companions such as Talhah & Zubayr & Ammar (raa) - NEITHER Ali NOR Muawiyah (raa) were responsible for these killings.
Neither Ali nor Muawiyah were calling ppl to Hell - it was the Rebels who were doing that.
The Rebels (now known as Khawarij) started causing problems throughout the lands & so Ali (ra) fought them & killed thousands of them.
These Rebels plotted to kill both Muawiyah & Ali (raa) and succeeded in killing Ali (ra).
Muawiyahs (ra) Authority as the Ruler of Shaam (Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan) was legitimised by 2 Khalifas - Umar & Uthman (raa). He NEVER claimed to be the Khalifa nor did he give allegiance or recognise Ali (ra) as the new Khalifa until Justice was done.
Muawiyahs authority was even recognised by Ali's own son Hassan (raa) when he became the 5th Khalifa of Islam & then abdicated in favour of Muawiyah (ra) who became the 6th Khalifa.
This fulfilled another Prophecy of rasulullah salallahu alayhiwasallam when he said that Hassan will bring peace between 2 groups of MUSLIMS!

I am Sunni, I love and respect all sahaba, bt I find it very hard to have husn zann about someone who was having Hazrat Ali cursed on the mimbars. What possible reason did Muawiyah have to do that?

    • @nazqureshi1675

The caliph Usman had been brutally murdered by someone and as far as I know, I might be wrong muawiyah thought caliph Ali was behind it(in reality he wasn’t). He had been brainwashed by his people. The reason why he thought that was muawiyah was putting pressure on Ali to execute the murderers of caliph Usman but caliph Ali was interested in establishing a strong and stable caliphate before, as after the death of caliph Usman things had gone downhill a lot . He wanted to first solve the matters of the statemand then afterwards execute the murderes of Usman but again muawiyah took it negatively and thought caliph Ali was doing it to become the caliph, so he fought him....however no Sunni as far as I know will say that muawiyah did a good thing coz he didn’t but he wasn’t a bad person either as he was a sahabi of the prophet and just wanted the best for the muslim nation, he thought he was right but in reality he wasn’t, he made a mistake that’s it..

Several hundreds of companions despite being alive at the time kept aloof from the battle at Karbala to save the nation from entanglement and bloodshed. Had it been an encounter between good and evil, the companions who throughout their lives had not shirked jihad would have definitely thrown all their weight behind Imam Husain (a.s.).’
So the companions stayed away from Karbala citing confusion between truth and falsehood and not wanting to create bloodshed.
If the companions and taabe’een were indeed confused, then it is despite the fact that the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) had often declared that Imam Husain (a.s.) is the Lamp of Guidance and the Ark of Salvation. And that Imam Husain (a.s.) and his brother Imam Hasan (a.s.) were the Chiefs of the Youths of Paradise. And that both of them were his sons according to the Verse of Mubahelah in Surah Aale Imran (3): 61 when they along with the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and their parents Ali (a.s.) and Fatima (s.a.) confronted the Christians of Najraan for malediction and drove them into submission.

Award winning UK Muslim author, Shelina Janmohammad’s post on ASHURA today-
“Today is an important but not very widely known occasion in the Islamic calendar called Ashura. Literally it means 'tenth' because it is the tenth day of the first month of the Islamic year.
It's marked by all Muslims to a lesser or greater extent, with different views on why the day is important. Some say it was the day Moses parted the Red Sea and saved the Jewish people. Others recount that it was the day that the ark of Noah finally came to shore. The most visibly noticeable and the one I want to focus on is the story of Husain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
Here's the story, very very briefly. Within barely fifty years of the death of the Prophet, a new Caliph called Yazid took power over the already vast and growing Muslim lands. It's no secret he was a nasty, corrupt, womanising, drunk tyrant that killed indiscriminately. Husain - a key opposition figure publicly fighting this corruption of power in such a short period after the 'golden' era of his grandfather - opposed his brutality. Yazid demanded Husain publicly announce his support for Yazid, which of course Husain could not do.
Long story short, this led to a massacre of Husain, his immediate family and close companions including some children so that Yazid could be seen to be crushing his enemies. That took place in Karbala in today's Iraq, on Ashura. The women and children remained after the battle, and were forced to walk in chains all the way to Damascus where Yazid held court, while crowds jeered and humiliated them, and many children died on the way. That's the story as it is recounted today. Check historians and more detailed accounts if you want to know more, or unpack the details.
It happened a long time ago, that's true. And for those who mark this important occasion for Ashura it's also hugely emotional. That's why you will see large crowds dressed in black, often wailing loudly, and perhaps the scenes that can look so unfamiliar to our eyes of people beating their chests. This is visceral emotion, and what the participants would call, an expression of love and heartbreak. Participants point to a strong love Prophet Muhammad had for his grandson Husain and that he had repeatedly stated he was a leader of the Muslim ummah.
There are some Muslims who disagree with marking the occasion, especially the emotional aspects of it. But this post is not about their views, but standing in the shoes of those who do mark Ashura this way, listening to their voices. And mostly, what I take away from the occasion.
    1. Connecting emotionally to things is powerful
The power of stories, especially ones that connect to our core human emotions of right and wrong, of love, of kindness, humanity and suffering drive us to change ourselves and our societies in ways that dry facts simply can't. As a storyteller I completely understand why the story of Husain told in these deeply emotional ways is so motivating to people and why when asked about this method, people are so passionate. Emotion makes a difference.
In fact, the softness of a human being's heart is a sign of their closeness to the Divine. In the Qur'an it describes the believers as those who "fall on their faces, weeping." And perhaps one of my favourite Qur'an references which talks about those who don't believe as being harder in their hearts than rocks, because even rocks fall and water gushes forth from them.
So people, cry, weep, let it out. Injustice should trigger these strong feelings. If it doesn't make you cry, that's when you start to worry.
    2. Small things can make big differences, supposed defeat can mean change
A lot of discussion about Ashura says that Husain's "army" (less than 100 people) meant it was pointless to fight and a suicide mission, and a political solution might have been better. Maybe, maybe not. What I take from it is that to 'lose' or take a seemingly crazy decision when you truly believe and your principles mean you just can't do anything else (he couldn't concede Yazid was a worthy ruler) can have long term consequences. So 14 centuries later people are still talking about what you need to do to stand up to power. That's impact. And in the short term it triggered a change in power too.
    3. Making a change needs a partnership between men and women, and women's roles are vital
Ashura's story is about Husain and his murder. But it's also the story of his sister Zainab, and how she is his partner, his rock, and leads the entire resistance against the Caliph after Husain's death.
The reason that the story of Ashura is recounted is because of Zainab and the other women. She told everyone, she stood up to Yazid in his palace. She held her head high. There is no Ashura occasion without women. Salute to the sisters!
    4. Stand up to bad power / being Muslim is no guarantee that you're on the right side.
There's something that gives heart when you need to stand up to bad power - Husain did it, I can do it too. There's far too much discussion about giving in to 'Muslim' leaders no matter how bad they are because it might cause 'fitna' (disturbance, corruption). Worse, everyone in this entire event is Muslim on both sides. And this is within living memory of the Prophet Muhammad. So check yourself - you could be on the wrong side.
    5. Find the story that motivates you
As I've got to know about the events of Ashura, one thing I've loved is how those who commemorate the events tell the stories of each person on that day, their background and motivations. They are the instances that bring to life our daily struggles. There's something for everyone. My favourite is the story of Hur, the commander of Yazid's army and Husain's opposing number on the battlefield. He's the reason the battle happens in Karbala. Yet the night before he has an epiphany that he's about to massacre some people at the behest of a brutal tyrant. Too late? you might say. What I take from it is that it's never too late. And one simple decision can totally change your life and take you from the wrong side onto the right one.
    6. The past matters
It was a long time ago, right? Our stories matter. Whether it's a hundred years ago (anniversary of the great war coming up, the holocaust), or more than a thousand years ago (ashura) what we know and remember of the past shapes our present and how we relate to it. Bad rulers have always existed. Making difficult choices in the face of massive oppression,or even the micro-oppressions in our own lives will always exist for human beings. Past events give us context, options, inspirations and the emotions to motivate us to change. Never look at a historic event and say it's not worth remembering it. Instead, ask how can it help me solve the problems I have today.
    7. Systemic injustice must be challenged at all costs
To the backdrop of the murder of George Floyd and the protests against racism and injustice, and the Black Lives Matter protests, Ashura is a potent example of how a mass of people can uphold systemic injustice, by protecting the status quo and those in power. Those were the people on the side of Yazid. It is Husain that stands against the systemic abuse of power, and challenges the entrenched biases. He's all in because when it comes to fighting oppression, you can't be in the middle. It's a lifelong mission.
Peace and blessings and condolences to all those marking Ashura today. In respect I quote the words of Prophet Muhammad "Hassan and Husain are the leaders of the youths of paradise" and "Husain is from me and I am from Husain."
And perhaps my most favourite interaction from Ashura which is a brief conversation between Husain and his son. The son asks before he knows he will be killed "Are we on the side of truth?" Husain replies "Yes, we are fighting for justice". His son says "Then I'm ready."
I feel like in the crazy world we live in now, we need motivations and stories about fighting for justice more than ever. And we need clear paradigms that can bring us together. Who's ready?

I totally agree with you, you have articulated your point very well. For academic purposes and to gain an accurate depiction of any event, it is important to have reliable sources and information to understand the truth, otherwise a valuable lesson can be misguiding. Taking a historical view the matter is better and then can benifit fully from the points you mentioned.
