I equate 'Spread' to make (Chevrolet) and Air Raid to model (Corvette). You have various types of Spread offenses (Smashmouth, Pro Style, Read Option, etc...) and they all work when taught well. I love your summary coach and am all in on 'green grass reads' for our team.
I am totally blind and coaching my Qb’s to read grass makes it more simple for both of us. The grass doesn’t lie, its either open or closed. I like it because it shortens the conversation on what coverages they are showing and actually bring.
Coach Maddox refers to the “grass” as route side space. It is a good predictor of open. You’re really attacking open space and creating that space with route distributions. I think that combination of fixed routes and option routes is what makes 95 so deadly. You have the predetermined “grass” to look for, but the over route can snap it off to make he and the qb right.
The other reason Grass Reads are critical is the defense has more than one guy playing. If you only key one dude someone else might make the play. On shallow, the Outside backer might drop but the corner baits. On stick the the walk might have played the back but inside backer did a heck of a job and got out on the the stick, etc. Also by grass reading, we can run the plays against different defenses and not have to learn different keys or check out of the play.
The only play I've seen where grass reads are taught is "mesh". Never looked at Air Raid in a more different way before. Being an Air Raid rookie really have me excited about this offense. However, reading grass while using the entire field in the spread is even more exciting. I cringe seeing tight split Air Raid teams play. Open grass in space is very important.
Hello. I ordered Pat Taylor’s book through coach McKie but did not receive it. Do you know who I can contact about this? The email address does not work. Thank you and thank you for the video.
Air raid and spread are dif but can be the same at times ! If you running air raid you should be running all of it if you just use some of it and make it your own well that’s spread! If u use a system u gotta use the whole system to say hey i run the wing t but u don’t run all the plays that’s not wing t u cant say I’m doing calculus but you are only doing geometry and algebra that’s like saying u run air raid but u don’t run mesh or u change the name of everything that’s not air raid that’s your own version of spread that has some air raid in it but they all can work if taught well

Not necessarily. "or." Its like asking asking pro or air raid. It ca be both, both can be true

Sorry I don’t. Coach Taylor had his own stuff for awhile and Coach McKie isn’t actively coaching right now as far as I know
@@onebackfootball I got it sorted out. He took care of it. 👍
