What’s sad about some of these is that acting at the end of the day is still a job, and if that’s your source of income you don’t have the option of always waiting for the perfect screenplay to come along. Losing your career due to being in a bad film is not the same as losing you’re career because you are a bad actor, and bad directors and screenwriters almost never seem to take hit to their careers as quickly or as severely as actors do. Also these stories are known only because these actors got big enough for people care; there are probably hundreds of similar stories we know nothing about. The main take away is that Hollywood generally is a pretty terrible place to work in.
In a lot of cases, the actor themselves put on a good performance but factors outside of their control end up impacting them. I think Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins both do a good job in John Carter - a personal favorite - and neither of them were the issue with the movie. In fact, the movie is a really good time. But because of how much money was put into it, and how it did, it cast a shadow over their career. Andrew Stanton, the director, was in purgatory for a while before Finding Dory made a billion, though he's mostly been doing creative work since then. I'd say directors do take a hit to their career if the movie loses a lot of money. Writers are the ones that seem to be mostly immune, though it might be because their job ends sooner than others. There are countless uncovered actors in this video. And even those are the lucky ones - there's probably an order of magnitude more that tried to get into the position of acting at all but were unable to.
I would say that with directors, if you've had one major hit you can ride that wave for quite a few flops. Take a film like The Sixth Sense, I doubt Samalyan would have gotten nearly the number of chances and the budgets he still had to work with if that film had not been as big as it was. Showgirls might have been a flop but Vorhoven is still working. Actors are treated as if they should be able to turn crap into gold.
The supply of talented actors, directors, writers, etc. will always exceed the available jobs, so it isn’t surprising that rising actors can wreck their careers. But it is surprising when actors with a solid track record of success can’t find work. But even going back to the 1930’s and 1940’s the saying was “You’re only as big as your last box office.” :"Box office jail” is just an update of “box office poison.” Katharine Hepburn is a famous example of a “box office poison” star who made a major comeback.
It's really unfair about Hayden Christianson. No one's ability to act should be measured by how convincing they were in a George Lucas film. Rather, how UNconvincing they were, because George Lucas cannot direct an actor to a believable performance to save his life. Nor can he write dialog.
It's pretty telling that about the only star that went on to have a phenomenal movie career from acting in a Star Wars film is Harrison Ford. Alec Guinness, Samuel L. Jackson, Natalie Portman, and a few others already had important roles prior to Star Wars while Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Hayden Christensen, and others didn't really go on to become movie stars.
George Lucas can write dialogue, is just not the dialogue that you wait from any other film, he has his own style, might not be the best, but it works within the Star Wars universe, considering all the terms and names (he helped in the latino/mexican dub, really good actually), any of them have become iconic (just look at the memes), some are even beautiful, take Yoda, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Dooku and Palpatine's lines, there are wise messages there, even Anakin's lines aren't that bad, I think Hayden acted better in Episode 3. George Lucas might not be the best director of actors, he's rather a more visual man who prefers action over words.
@@jesustovar2549 don't get me wrong,he's an excellent world builder. Not to mention that he more or less single handedly outlined what is possibly the most well known and beloved story of the past three generations and counting. I think that he's amazing when it comes to the broad strokes. I would love to have read a novel of his,had he ever written one. But I do think that the dialogue he writes for his characters is stilted and unnatural sounding, and that he would've done well to have someone make another pass at the scripts he's written. Just to punch up characters' lines a little bit. And while he can't get a good performance even out of actors who are proven to be great at their craft,it's okay cuz he doesn't HAVE to be a great director OR a great screenwriter. He clearly has no shortage of skill where it counts the most. I just would've liked to have seen a prequel trilogy with different directors for the second and third installments like the original trilogy had,as well as a script doctor to revise some of the dialog. After all...no man is an island,as they say.
I wish he was given another role in LOTR ,it's really sad that he train so hard for this role and fire right away must be shocking. Anyway Viggo was born to play Aragon but i wish something was done for Stuart Townsend in LOTR
I was lucky enough to see Brendan Fraser in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof in London in around 2001. He was magnificent in the role. I had no idea about the assault on him. He truly deserves to be cast in a lot more roles.
After the success of her debut in 1976's King Kong, Emmy and Oscar winner Jessica Lange found a lot of success in television - after a string of box office bombs such as Frances, Far North, Blue Sky, Losing Isaiah and Hush, but she's still going strong and healthy every day!
A good example of a similar situation, but in the music industry, is what happened to Janet Jackson after nipple-gate. Her career was ruined by conservatives for an action perpetrated by Justin Timberlake, who’s career wasn’t affected. Only recently have people started realizing that he was an a-hole all along
While I don't think it's fair to give her 100% of the blame for that incident, it's ridiculous to pretend that she wasn't somewhat responsible. She knew what she was doing. And yes, Timberlake should have got more of the blame then he did too, but it's not like he was the only one responsible. And criticism came from just about everybody (except for people who just didn't care), not just one side of the political aisle.

Imagine the story of a down on his luck Indy, who's given up on life- hearing that Short Round is out there somewhere, kidnapped or looking for treasure or something! And the Indy goes out to save him and they have one final adventure together! God damn. Unforgivable.
There could be a part where Indiana called Short Round “kiddo” and he’s like “dude, I’m 40 now.” And Indiana looks at him like “seriously??? F*CK I’m old”
Nice content! However, when you speak, your delivery has an upward inflection (like you’re asking a question) , and pause after nearly every word. If you’re reading into a mic, you might want to try a more natural flow. It’s difficult to listen to and very unique. Anyone else hearing this??
I was taught, here in Australia, that you inflect upward with a comma and down with a full stop (period), which is what he is doing. Sounds good to me.
This is an example of productive criticism. You offered a positive, that you like the content, then explained, in a positive way, an improvement and how it could be attained. Excellent!!
I think for RDJ you forgot to mention the role that really put him back on the map. It was his TV role in Ally McBeal where he was really back on form and got critical praise to the point studios were clamoring to bring him back for roles. That where his comeback really began
I don't actually think an incredibly famous man with a lot of successful and rich friends who eventually got work again because someone else vouched for him proves that "anyone can recover".
I always wondered if John Carter should have been named ‘Princess of Mars’. As a kid I remember looking at the poster and title like ‘who does he think he is?’. Sounds funny now, but most kids wouldn’t know about the novels. ‘A Princess of Mars’ sounds amazing especially a kid. Unfortunately I’m one of the few people that loved Rebel Moon.
Yup - I think keeping it "A Princess of Mars" would've been a good idea. Or, at least, "John Carter of Mars", which was the original working title. The "Of Mars" also quickly sold the idea that this was a sci-fi.
Somebody claimed the Winona Ryder thing was also Weinstein. They claimed that normally the store would've just been OK for her to pay for the stuff she took.
Should've mentioned 1989's Wired, the John Belushi "biopic" (if you can even call it that). Got abismal reviews, and Chiklis got avoided by almost every major studio like the plague.
I loved the story he told about Burt Reynolds, I think Reynolds partied a couple of times with Belushi, and Chiklis met Reynolds at a party!not many of Belushis friends liked the movie at all!Reynolds would slap some stars at parties for being rude to friends of his!Chiklis thought Reynolds would do that and was ready to get into a fistfight wity Reynolds as he approached!instead Reynolds gave him a big smile and gave him a firm handshake!im pretty sure its on Party of Four here on yt, the fun series with actors and actresses talking about movies and such!
Good job. I read on the internet that John Carter has become something of a small cult film and gave it a go. It is in fact better than it appeared when it came out. It seems Disney really messed up the marketing (starting with a terrible title, John Carter of Mars, or Princess of Mars would probably been better). Anyway Taylor Kitch was not the problem. Poor guy has been treated too harshly for some reason. Especially after such good work in Friday Night Lights.
You're right on about the marketing - I they should've gone with the original "A Princess of Mars", because the novel was already so old and no one really had a connection to some dude named "John Carter". I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's a solid, fun action adventure movie and we don't really get many like it anymore. Kitsch and Collins both did an admirable job in it.
In 2012, Taylor Kitsch's career was affected by 3 failures at the box office: John Carter, Battleship and Savages. If any of them were a success, maybe he'd get another chance to greatness. Curiously, in the same year and seasons Channing Tatum had 3 major hits: The Vow, 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike.
So many good things to say about all these actors honestly. Acting really seems like a tough gig in my opinion. Like nobody stays on top forever, everyone has some sort of bad movie that caused them to question why they do this. (except Taylor Lautner) I really don't enjoy him in anything except the smashing classic The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl. Where he displays an amazing martial arts display at such a young age.
Yeah, it's honestly really wild. I'm surprised that pretty much none of them have been breakout hits except Pedro Pascal - but he's been in the business for a long time. But Natalie Dormer, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, etc. just seemed to be relegated.
I agree with a lot what you are saying, but as far as actors go, i don't agree with that a big named actor can always get anyway with a bad movie. An unknown actor, gets away with a lot more if the movie is a flop, because no one has ever heard of them. He can make multiple flops, and than one day get that bit hit movie that's an instant success. A well known actor however, there are certain expectations that the audience already has for them. The fans of those actors know there acting capabilities and expect them to act just as well, if not better, in the next movie. If anything, it hits much harder when a movie flops for a big named actor, just because those expectations were so high. And yes....some of those movies that big named actors have stared in, bombed so badly, that it ruined there entire career.
Glad you like them. Yup, Hollywood history (any kind of history, really) is a particular favorite of mine. It's interesting to see parallels between the past and modern day.
Kudos for calling key hu quan's case AS "racism." It was clearly anti asian racism towards asian/american men. Most reports gloss this over or sugarcoat it.
I'm glad you think the same way. Yeah, I always thought of it as a very clear cut case of racism. Roles for Asian American actors were severely limited and it's really been over the last 5-10 years that things have really begun to change. Still a ways to go but movies & shows like EEAAO, Monkey Man, Beef, and others give me hope.
Blaming racism is cheap. The list of child actors who don’t continue to get roles is long. But, it must be racism. Jfc. BD Wong has been working consistently since the early 90s. Ken Leung for the last 30. Randall Park the last 20. Rex Lee the past 20. Masi Oka since the early aughts. Jason Scott Lee since the late 80s. Brandon Lee was a rising action star. Aaron Yoo since the early aughts. John Cho since the late 90s. Kenneth Choi since late 80s.
It's funny how people try to ignore "African Americans" who speak on Racism/White Supremacy yet think they can immigrate to this country and play victim when they were warned decades ago.
And Racism is Anti-"Black"-ness (White Supremacy) nothing more. You obviously like ignoring the Melanated Asians that are discriminated against by the Key Hu Quans of Asia. Keep trying, we aren't in the same side.
Terrance howard was also integral in getting RDJ that role in iron man. Thats why he got so mad when he didnt get more money, and got dropped for iron man 2.
I recently read that (sacrificing a million + RDJ not picking up the phone). It's unfortunate, as I like Terrance Howard. That said, Don Cheadle never turns in a bad performance.
RDJ said in an interview or two, that by turning to occult practices, he secured his own role in Iron Man. Never mentioned Terrance Howard. I wonder which story is true.
I was in love with mira sorvino as a youth. Thanks Harvey, for derpiving me from her presence. Not that i understood anything about acting as a kid, but now that i do I can say she is actually really good actress
Taylor Kitsch was in Only The Brave in 2017, which I don't remember if it was a hit, but was a solid movie. It was the perfect "dad movie," the kind that'll be in heavy rotation on CMT till the end of time.
There was once a rising young actor named Tom Hanks, whose star was growing brighter by the day. Then, he did a film called "Bachelor Party" and that apparently destroyed his career, given that he basically disappeared from Hollywood after that. 😥
Yeah, before that, he got his early roles in a small-time horror flick and then an occult themed TV special. Soon after, he did his club-required "ritual humiliation" in drag, in the Bosom Buddies sitcom. Plus, he's a Jeffrey Epstein sanctioned _pre - dator of traf - ficked younglings._ Something his Bosom costar, Peter Scolari, wasn't willing to become. Scolari remained a small screen TV sitcom prisoner, with a slightly lighter stained soul, to his death. But your sarcasm aside, we all know the _Silver Screen Hollywood Legend_ known as Tom Hanks. We just don't know _everything_ he did to become that.
John Carter was so unfairly treated by Disney. You watch any of the trailers, and you can tell that none of the marketing team cared about this film. Disney could have had a multi-billion dollar franchise that could be releasing annually to this day, similar to Harry Potter for Warner Brothers. Instead, they blew it on Disney+ Star Wars instead. Either way, both Kitsch and Collins are incredibly talented, and I'm glad they're still acting in some form or another to this day.
Careers ebb & flow - both most of these examples are actors who starred in either big franchises or tv shows - it takes a while for an audience to see them as another leading character & allow themselves to be emersed in a new production they're starring in. That said Taylor Lautner was the Rupert Grint of Twilight.
That's fair though, I think, there is a turning point - ill-defined, to be sure, but perhaps perceptible - where one can say that a career is on a downturn and not in the middle of change. Ridley Scott is a good example - he has a few hits, a few flops, a few more hits, a few more flops, but always manages to turn it around within years. Some are unable to turn it around to that degree.
I would agree, though the prevailing sentiment seems to be that doing both - theatrical followed by streaming - is the best of both worlds. You get to recoup most of the costs + word of mouth helps boost it on streaming.
Megan fox knew Bay wouldn't mind her comment cause they used to role play, Spielberg got upset cause he thought he was the only one who played that role with her 😂 😂
I’ve always like Cara Delvigne, I think she’s an incredibly interesting person and has more skill acting that she gets credit for. I also have a soft spot for Valerian and the City of 1000 planets, my ex and I really loved it and that’s one of the last positive memories I have of our relationship. It’s such a fun movie and RHIANNA PLAYS A SHAPE SHIFTING ALIEN. It’s going to be a cult classic, I bet it’ll be compared to The Fifth Element in another decade or so.
I'm glad to find someone who also liked Valerian. I saw it in theaters and had a blast, and it's one of those movies I return to every so often. I wish the movie had done better, and I hope that she - and Dane DeHaan - are able to get more roles going forward. She has promise as an actress, but needs the right role. I'm happy to hear that it's a positive memory for you. It's one of the wonderful aspects about movies: specific movies at specific times - whatever those times are - can linger with us our whole lives.
I love this video enough to comment that the text on screen that is fast and rapid is distracting from your words. I can’t pay attention to both, and before you’ve even set the video up I am looking and seeing talking points in these texts showing up, then I’m rewinding, then rewinding, then reading, then rewinding. Very uncomfortable for the first minuet of the video, I’m only at 1:08 and excited to see more, but I might have to just stop watching the actual video component to hear what YOU’RE saying. Structure in a video like this is super important
Thanks for the constructive criticism. This is something I need to get better at. I read a lot so all I often need to do is scan a text and I usually get it. But someone else brought it up and I think it's gotten better on the last couple of videos or so - but still plenty of room for improvement.
I'm betting that one opinionated girl from Snowwhite's gonna get blacklisted. She throws her opinions around everywhere when no one's asking and it's a massive risk or outright damaging to studios.
John Carter wasn’t bad at all. It was enjoyable. The problem was it wasn’t marketed well at all. No one really knew what it was about. That was its failing
Does Rust (the infamous Alec Baldwin film) get a mention? It has yet to find a distributor plus despite being acquitted, AB’s career is over as he has yet to be cast in a film since
He's been around. Apparently, he's been doing video game and movie voice over work up to as recently as 2023. Not a strong candidate for any of this video's topics. Never in "movie jail," as far as I know. Definitely never blacklisted by the Weinstein Machine.
Gibson is directing his next film, Flight Risk, which should be coming out next year. But what I want him to get started on is the next Lethal Weapon movie. There were rumors he'd direct it and that Danny Glover would be back. It's still the best buddy cop movie ever made.
John Carter was a pretty solid film. The backstory is well known the studio had shenanigans in not wanting it to succeed too much and was poorly marketed. And spending so much money on a film about books made 100 years ago had way more to do with its failure than anything on screen. I really have not seen much in audience reaction saying the leads were terrible. How the leads to this movie got the brunt of the fallout really was not fair to them at all. They had nothing to do with the budget or marketing and were relative newcomers. It smacks of Hollywood wanting a scapegoat that was "not them"
Idk if i see Taylor Lautner from this perpective. I see him as a small role smart comedy actor who was in one series of drama films(twilight) and then went right back to small but smart comedy. As a fan, Cuckoo was his best role, way better than Jacob Black(and i saw this as a twilight fan too)
You were way too kind to M. Night and Patty Jenkins in this video. They are both just not good at all especially M. Night and yet you spent a significant portion of the video buttering them up for no reason. Dislike.
Whenever I look at the actor Samuel Jackson, the man doesn't seem to have a big ego compare from other actors. Maybe it's only me, correct me If I am wrong, also he is not into too much drama or controversy.
His career is really one-note, but it's a strong note. He plays Samuel Jackson in every movie, bad or good, his role is the same and people get what they expect.
Hollywood, you keep screwing these people, and we won't be shelling out big bucks for your latest content... most of which sucks more than ever, anyway!!! And for the record, I ALSO enjoyed John Carter... immensely!
Joan Crawford is another example, I believe " Mildred Pierce" was her comeback. Bette Davis, until "All About Eve"...
Can you think of any guys? Curious.
This is absolutely amazing keep up the great work can’t wait to see more 🔥!
I appreciate it!
People call your delivery too flat, but honestly I see a certain charm to it. Reminds me of Defunctland.
That's probably one of the highest honors I could get 👊
Really interesting! Thanks for ending on the comebacks :)
Glad you liked that! Always nice to finish on an up note. One hopes that most actors, in the future, end up in the comeback side.
amazing and surprisingly positive video. great work as always
Glad you enjoyed it!
I blame the studio for John Carter. That budget was ridiculous for a movie based on a character lot of young people didn’t know.
Yup. Should've been way cheaper.
It's really unfair about Hayden Christianson. No one's ability to act should be measured by how convincing they were in a George Lucas film. Rather, how UNconvincing they were, because George Lucas cannot direct an actor to a believable performance to save his life. Nor can he write dialog.
I agree! I always loved Hayden and thought he was a great actor. one of my favorite movies with him was Factory Girl.
I guess you haven’t seen American Graffiti.
Rising star Stuart Townsend being replaced by Vigo Mortensen for the role of Aragorn is a big one. He pretty much vanished after that.
After the success of her debut in 1976's King Kong, Emmy and Oscar winner Jessica Lange found a lot of success in television - after a string of box office bombs such as Frances, Far North,
Blue Sky, Losing Isaiah and Hush, but she's still going strong and healthy every day!
@@troodon1096 well yeah, they were both responsible/complicit, but it doesn’t justify the complete obliteration of her career for a damn exposed breast when there are/were much worse people doing much worse things, like Epstein, Weinstein, Trump, Polansky, Woody Allen, Steven Tyler
Sho blaming Janet Jackson again,it was an accident. She didn't deserve the backlash. People were just jealous of her that time and that's it.@@troodon1096
Thank you for this well done video essay.
You know we're living in the worst timeline when you realise the Indiana Jones 5 that we got, and the Indiana Jones 5 that we could have had...with Short Round (Ke Huy Quan), instead of that beanpole. Imagine the story of a down on his luck Indy, who's given up on life- hearing that Short Round is out there somewhere, kidnapped or looking for treasure or something! And the Indy goes out to save him and they have one final adventure together! God damn. Unforgivable.
There could be a part where Indiana called Short Round “kiddo” and he’s like “dude, I’m 40 now.”
And Indiana looks at him like “seriously??? F*CK I’m old”
They go looking for with the rest pf the goons and they do away with Shia laBeauf in the worst and most embarrassing manner. the End.
@@tezzag818it's more prevalent in Australia than in the US
Sounds great to me
get used to it
This is an example of productive criticism. You offered a positive, that you like the content, then explained, in a positive way, an improvement and how it could be attained. Excellent!!
Feel sorry for Jude and Sorvino and the other actresses. How sad to have your career destroyed.
Especially by a scumbag like Weinstein.
underrated channel! love your content
I think for RDJ you forgot to mention the role that really put him back on the map. It was his TV role in Ally McBeal where he was really back on form and got critical praise to the point studios were clamoring to bring him back for roles. That where his comeback really began
If I recall correctly, though, his Ally McBeal character had to get written off - I think that's when his drug issues really caught up to him.
Great video! I’d love a part 2!
Great vid!
It’s a great movie, agreed. I think the high-powered director (Pixar guy) refused to give it a different title - and it definitely hurt.
Soul Man derailed C. Thomas Howell's career for close to 2 decades.
He was awesome in Gettysburg though
I liked Jumpers. Always thought it was just the critics that hated that movie.
Game of thrones, House of the dragon. You wont see this cast anyware
@@Syntopikon Besides Kit Harrington all those names mentioned are not good actors,
@@Sakura_Matou Even Harrington is a bit on the debatable side there. Most the rest of the cast just had looks and half-decent writing to carry them.
Just dicovered your Channel - Great work , keep going !
Thanks, and will do! 😎
love your videos, you know hollywood history
But I thought that Hollywood was woke. Huh.
Imagine going home seeing Robert Downey JR on your bed! Lol!
Pretty much a Goldilocks and the Three Bears incident lol
Terrance howard was also integral in getting RDJ that role in iron man. Thats why he got so mad when he didnt get more money, and got dropped for iron man 2.
I recently read that (sacrificing a million + RDJ not picking up the phone). It's unfortunate, as I like Terrance Howard. That said, Don Cheadle never turns in a bad performance.
RDJ said in an interview or two, that by turning to occult practices, he secured his own role in Iron Man. Never mentioned Terrance Howard. I wonder which story is true.
The live action Resident Evil movies pretty much crippled Milla Jovovichs career.
Elizabeth Berkeley is a great actress and is underrated.
I was in love with mira sorvino as a youth. Thanks Harvey, for derpiving me from her presence. Not that i understood anything about acting as a kid, but now that i do I can say she is actually really good actress
Poor Brendan Frazer :(
There’s quite a few actors who aren’t terrible that get blamed for their movies flopping. It’s more of the director/writers faults.
Battleship and John carter are some of my favorite movies. Battleship was the first pg13 movie I watched and I’ve always loved John carter
Saw both in theaters and had a blast with both. Love to put on Battleship from time to time and just have fun.
Tom Hanks? Never heard of the guy.
Can we trade JLo in to let someone out?
John Carter was so unfairly treated by Disney. You watch any of the trailers, and you can tell that none of the marketing team cared about this film. Disney could have had a multi-billion dollar franchise that could be releasing annually to this day, similar to Harry Potter for Warner Brothers. Instead, they blew it on Disney+ Star Wars instead. Either way, both Kitsch and Collins are incredibly talented, and I'm glad they're still acting in some form or another to this day.
It’s weird I always wondered what happened to certain actors I liked from the 80’s. Michael Pare, Jenny Wright, kid from Weird Science
i honestly feel bad for the guys when this happens would love to see them in more stuff
Good channel!
Glad you like it!
Some are unable to turn it around to that degree.
streaming is argueably bigger than theatres (bare a few blockbusters) these days.
I would agree, though the prevailing sentiment seems to be that doing both - theatrical followed by streaming - is the best of both worlds. You get to recoup most of the costs + word of mouth helps boost it on streaming.
I remember seeing a "Free Winona Ryder" t-shirt...
DO A PART 2!!
Megan fox knew Bay wouldn't mind her comment cause they used to role play, Spielberg got upset cause he thought he was the only one who played that role with her 😂 😂
Lynn Collins played the role of Leah in The Walking Dead season 11A and 11B
Nick Cage will always get me to watch Con-Air😂😂😂
Why do we see samuel jackson costar with so many of these actors
Lol the guy's ridiculously prolific.
lol Samuel L.Jackson have been in so many movie.
Lautner shoulda went for more comedy. Ridiculous six is obv shit, but he was funny in cuckoo
Probably doesnt help that Megan Fox has almost proudly stated a number of times that she's a misandrist
I liked the Spirit, but I also thought it was a schlock, but good schlock...
*Elizabeth Berkley has always been a terrible actress. She is lucky to have gotten as far as she did with so little talent.*
It's really just bad timing for Winona Ryder and Mel Gibson. Shoplifting and hating jews is really trendy now
C Thomas Howell wins this.
Ruined for a role he defends to this day
it’s funny that samuel l jackson is in a lot of this movies
@@Syntopikon I will be sure to check them out! I liked the video a lot and subscribed!
Honestly was so confused by the thumbnail 😅
Whats funny Elizabeth Berkeley is just so beautiful she married Ralph Lauren son so im sure she ok in life lol i always had a crush on her
That king Arthur movie was good
I'm betting that one opinionated girl from Snowwhite's gonna get blacklisted. She throws her opinions around everywhere when no one's asking and it's a massive risk or outright damaging to studios.
John Carter wasn’t bad at all. It was enjoyable. The problem was it wasn’t marketed well at all. No one really knew what it was about. That was its failing
Yup. Marketing was terrible. It also came out the same time as The Hunger Games, I think. Terrible timing.
Does Rust (the infamous Alec Baldwin film) get a mention? It has yet to find a distributor plus despite being acquitted, AB’s career is over as he has yet to be cast in a film since
Where's Haley Joel-Osment?
He's been around. Apparently, he's been doing video game and movie voice over work up to as recently as 2023. Not a strong candidate for any of this video's topics. Never in "movie jail," as far as I know. Definitely never blacklisted by the Weinstein Machine.
Dang, Mel Gibson must be a real great guy for helping RDJ like that. I wonder what hes up too
Gibson is directing his next film, Flight Risk, which should be coming out next year.
Dislike.
So we me and my estranged dad went and saw savages for some reason. wtf!
It sucks but Miranda Otto was Eowyn.
I see Samuel L. Jackson in at least 2 of these movies. Why didn't they kill his career?
Sam Jackson is in so many movies, some of them extremely iconic, that he's just an institution at this point.
Lol. No great re-evaluation of John Carter has happened. The star was one of the reasons it tanked. That movie is a mess.
how about michael fassbender?
I think in Fassbender's case, it's because he wanted to focus more on racing. I think he's trying to get back into the swing of acting now.
Hollywood, you keep screwing these people, and we won't be shelling out big bucks for your latest content... most of which sucks more than ever, anyway!!!
And for the record, I ALSO enjoyed John Carter... immensely! Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins did NOT deserve what happened to their careers because of this one movie failing to find a big enough audience, especially after the hard earnest effort they put into this!!!
Thankfully, a lot of people seem to be coming around to John Carter being a solid movie that was let down by marketing + a massive budget more than anything else.
The lesson here seems to be, stop pouring hundreds of millions into producing and marketing these bloated films
John carter is 6/10
Help...rebel moon is bad,sorry...
If a straight white actor can't resurrect their careers, what hope is there for non-white actors?
Please explain Natalie Portman..every movie..EVERY MOVIE..has done poorly and yet she’s cast over and over again..even Black Swan didn’t do particularly well..maybe her movies are supposed to fail..? Money laundering?
She is an amazing actress?
Dude dont listen to anyone about your voice. 70% of the reason I've devoured all your content is to try and figure out if its annoying, or if I'm listening to figure out if its annoying...
Jk, it's unique, i fuckin die laughing sometimes when you say, "moviejill" (movie jail). Its just such a funny idea...movie JAIL..your delivery is so nonchalant about it...."movie jail. Yawn."
