I won't forget it either. I know that we shouldn't cheer players bad shots but when Scott Hoch missed that little putt in the play off me and my brother went crazy with joy. We so wanted Faldo to win. Then he sank that 25 footer at the next hole to win the title. Happy memories.

My golf life began in 1985 watching Sir Nick and the Ryder Cup. My golf heroes are still Faldo, Langer, Clarke and Ballesteros. Took up the game at first oppertunity about 7 years later and here we are +30 odd years later. Me completely obsessed about golf and watching every video on the tube.

The 97 Ryder cup was my first time watching Nick Faldo , I loved his swing and ball flight, definitely inspired me , and he had the bottle
I waited for him at 10th fairway in his singles match 1997. Then a golf buggy came by while i was talking to Ken Brown. In the buggy was Michael Jordan, Micheal Douglas, George Bush Snr, Tom Kite. They spoke to me asking who is my Favourite player. That was easy, Nick Faldo of course. They maybe expected me to say a yank. Lol.
My 1st autograph was in the 1991 British open at Birkdale as a 14yo.
Everything about Sir Nicks game, style, approach, fashion was enough for me to a huge fan.

He's been an inspiration to all, for many years. I was born in 1956, so we're a similar age and I've watched him through most of his career. The bonus now he's now got his own channel that I've subscribed to so I can still watch his stories. Given the demise of BBC coverage of golf, that's good enough for me. All the best Sir Nick.
I've always liked Sir Nick. 1st time I watched was 1987 in Muirfield....great golfer and likeable too with very intelligent golf conversation. Sorry to see you retire but glad your building a house and going trout fishing......my own passions in Blairgowrie. Good luck and tight lines! All the best Norman

Took up golf because of faldo, great player. His drive to win was outstanding, it's a shame the UK press are the pits, they love to big up our sports stars and luck them down.....list is endless, and unfortunately, faldo was treated shamefully by the UK media. But boy he's had the last laugh

The 2-iron he hit into 13 on Sunday in 1996 did more to foster my love of golf than any other shot. Pavin's 4-wood at Shinnecock is a close second. It was stunning to learn he had such an affable, cheeky sense of humor. The guy was a MACHINE on the golf course. I hope he enjoys retirement in Montana.

Around 1989-1990 people were genuinely talking of Nick Faldo as coming close to Ben Hogan in terms of ball-striking precision. People are inclined to forget that he was only a fraction of an inch away from getting into the play-off for the 1990 US Open alongside Hale Irwin and Mike Donald; his putt on 18 went right across the face of the hole and just stayed out. Had it gone in, he might have had the Masters, US Open and British Open that year to match the Hogan Slam of 1953.
I'll never forget the 3-iron he hit to that back left pin on 11 in the Masters play-off against Scott Hoch in 1989. Yes, a 3-iron, not a 9-iron or wedge like nowadays. On TV Ken Venturi said to Jim Nantz, "Wait up, Jimmy...look at this...what a shot...he just took it right at it and didn't even fool with it!" It was as pure a strike as I've ever seen. Little did I imagine one day Nick himself would be sitting in Kenny's seat in the tower, and what a job he did.
I spent the week at the 1990 Open in St. Andrews when he was in his absolute prime and followed himself and Ian Baker-Finch all the way round on that final Sunday. I even saw him having a long conversation with Doug Sanders beside the putting green shortly before teeing off the 1st. I was thinking to myself that Doug Sanders would be the last person I'd be talking to if I were leading the Open in St. Andrews but Nick was like a machine that week.
Overall, his record speaks for itself and I feel privileged to have seen him in his prime. Enjoy your retirement, Sir Nick.
What I admired was his determination to not only rebuild a swing but hit thousands of golf balls whilst doing it. He has admitted he wasn't the easiest guy to be around. But unlike Torrance, Clarke, and James he would practice rather than socialise. He won 6 majors. They won nothing.

At Troon in ‘88 i think, the year Calcavechia won i bought an auctioned signed book by Nick, lost it a few years later and still gutted to this day!
89 Calc won in a 3 way playoff. 4 hole I believe.

The sad part is that Nick is probably appreciated more internationally than in his home country. The British have a great knack for dishing on their own, you only have to look at some of the great stars like Sebastian Coe to see that. Terrible things were written about them in the press back in the day. It’s no wonder they start to mistrust people in general. I wish Nick all the happiness in his retirement, he deserves it.
I think the British press were solely to blame for that. In those days in particular they seemed to want to knock anybody who was remotely successful, as if they were trying to bring them down a peg or two, absolutely shameful and disgusting so called "journalism".
Faldo has risen above it all though and i agree, he thoroughly deserves his retirement.

Amazing that Sir Nick never won a US Open or a PGA to add to his 3 Opens and 3 Masters. His game seemed to be perfectly suited to those 2 Majors.
With his salad bowl haircut as a teenager, I thought Nick was on the spectrum.
Won't forget the '96 Masters. This is before Tiger and before I fell in love with the game. I watched the entire telecast. I felt for Norman because you can see him choking. If you play sports, it happens. You knew Faldo was going to win coming down the stretch.
Does anyone know how to access a program that was released in America I think called the famous five about Nick Seve and the others? Sounds really interesting I was a big fan of all those guys when I was a young golfer. In the UK seems hard to find this program.

We all know social media is replacing what was once a human will, and Nick has always lived up to the PC community standards. However the tour is moving toward dedicated bio-augmentation (After all, what if you lose your cell phone? OMG! No paper tickets anymore!) Nick has decided this is a step too far and flew off the MT to fish the drought stricken rivers. Perhaps a new show will debut entitled -Nick's farm similar to Jeremy Clarkson’s show.
Well, u made the choice i expected. Hmm. Norman isn't popular.

Mr. Mizuno, I dont know why that sticks in my mind...new to golf in late '95 and for whatever reason I was a Greg Norman fan already but there was this guy, a determined ball striking machine with shiny Mizuno blades who beat Norman in the Masters in '96, yeah Nick Faldo....mr. Mizuno. Dumb comment but I'll never forget that Masters.
I think Faldo was at his very best at the 1990 Open, and watching highlights of that championship on UA-cam never gets old for me.

In 1990 I was a 16 year old kid on holiday in Jersey with my mum and dad. I remember watching Sir Nick win the Open at St. Andrew's on the TV in my hotel bedroom. It was the icing on the cake and made that holiday extra special for me.
Sir Nick is a legend! Sir Nick should have a major role in all Ryder Cups. Nick has spoke up loudly about the Saudi backed league and he was right on! He's a straight shooter and calls a spade a spade.
A true champion in ever sense of the meaning. For me the shot on the 13th at Augusta in 1996 was the moment I understood that I was watching someone who will go down as one of history's great golfers. I mean to have the mental capacity to change your choice of club just as you were about to swing is just incredible. I don't think people realise just how mentally strong you have to be to do something like that and then to go on an make a great shot as well. It was that moment I knew Faldo was going to win.

Since the days of Nicklaus and Watson, only Tiger has won more Majors than Faldo - some record !
His instructional book, “A swing for Life” changed my game completely. I can literally not play for 6 months, go to a range or course and within a few minutes be striking the back crisply again. ❤️

The best part of Sir Nick's successful broadcasting career. Besides his unique insights... Was fans got to know the real Nick Faldo. And he got his redemption, from the media villifying him during his playing days. As we all grew to love the person he is!
Nick Faldo has/had one of the most beautiful swings and on the course he's a pro trying to win and he can be himself on broadcasting. It's the determination that makes a person a champion.
Sir Nick made me want to play golf. Simple as that. Still an inspiration. I’m so glad he’s made the channel and can hear his thoughts about the game.
Golf will never be the same without you on the broadcast. I really hope that you are heading over to LIV golf. Please Nick! Your presence in golf is still greatly needed.
