@@FromBeneathTheHollywoodSign My mom use to sing with the Glenn Miller band back in the 40's. Her name was Marion Hutton. She acted in a few movies like "In Society" with Abbot & Costello and "Love Happy," with the Marx Brothers. She was the sister of Betty Hutton. Being a movie buff I would ask her about the people she met back then.
@@hemming57 That is so cool. I TOTALLY remember your mom. She was so beautiful and was a wonderful singer. She looked so much like her sister. I remember seeing hre in "Orchestra Wives" with the Glenn Miller Band. Thank you for sharing this. 🙂
You two just keep getting better and better. Would go for "Hangover Square" as much as "Screaming" and " Lodger," because he's masterful, and His Excellency in "Heaven Can Wait" is immaculate, yet, really in anything -- indelible talent. More, please, Steve and Nan, thank you. 💞👏🎥👏💞
THANK YOU both very much for a wonderfully interesting, intriguing & informative discussion of the late great Mr. Cregar. Kudos! Always liked him. One of Hollywood's worst tragedies was his early passing.
I remember seeing both Heaven can Wait and Black Swan. Loved Mr. Cregar in each of those films. It really is tragic that he died so young and with so few movies in his catalog. I did note that the gravestone y’all showed in the still had his birth date as 1914 and not the actual year of 1913. I wonder at the discrepancy. Thanks for sharing this story.
I adore Laird Cregar. When I saw him in The Lodger, I thought he was brilliant. I was so sad when I heard he died at such a young age and didn’t get to be in that many films.
The vivid storytelling of the 2 hosts transports one back in time and makes you see both the great talent and the personal struggles of Cregar. Another excellent episode!
I look forward to Sunday nights when I can listen to your podcasts. When I was very young, I saw "The Lodger" and "Hangover Square" on late-night television, and remember Mr. Cregar's performances very well. I now want to see his other movies. Raymond Burr and William Conrad, both heavies in the movies, became television stars. I'm sorry that it also didn't happen for Laird Cregar.
I empathize with the life of Laird Cregar. He was a fine actor. Like Cregar, I am an overweight gay man and I tried to crash diet. Looking at some of his roles, I find "Hangover Suare" heart-breaking.
Thank you for your nice message. He really was such a wondeful actor. I can't help but think about all the great films that he would have made had he lived longer. A true heartbreaking tragedy!
Once again, I just added a bunch of movies to my watch/rewatch list!! You guys make old movies come to life!! 😍😍😍 PS…..Steve, did you live across from Maplewood Cemetery???
Hi Donna! Thank you so much. I grew up across the street from Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Arp. We had so much fun running through that cemetery as kids! 🙂
Awwww ❤ Thank you all for the listener of the week mention! Between the deep dives you all do and the fun facts relayed by Lindsay on the Hollywood Tour Stops, I learn something new every episode and my watch and reading lists continue to grow exponentially. Thanks so much for the reading recommendations as well. Lots of love to y'all! ❤
When I was very sick one Christmas Eve, back in 1972, my brother decided to just open 1 present. And then another..and another. We normally opened gifts on Christmas eve. I was so sick, with a 104 fever. My mom placed warm wet towels around my calves to suck the fever out. We'll, I received this movie star book from my brother and nothing else mattered. In the book, one of the stars they talked about was Laird Cregar and he fascinated me. By the time the gifts were unwrapped, i had no more fever and continued to read my book. I was 8 yrs old and wanted to see so many movies. I was sad when I had read he died due to fast dieting, which still happens today. Since then, I have seen some of his films..love him as Satan. I still need to see him with Linda Darnell in the films you love. I wonder if his brothers were large? Did he inherit the gene where he has a hard timebto lose weight? He was a very sensitive soul which goes with his Walter Mitty thinking. The body shaming still goes on in the world but we're making progress.
My mother knew Laird Cregar in the 1940's. Said he was very nice.
Oh, wow! That is very cool. Did your Mom work in films?

Thank you so much for the nice note. Cregar was so talented. It really is a shame!

i remember hangover square goodness he had a beautiful voice🙂
He really did!
He did indeed !!
Vincent Price likely the one who sub'd for Laird in Dragonwyck. His competition !
As I do when I take off my hat, you make a good point !

That's such a great memory. I love that you discovered him at such a young age. You are so right, he was a sensitive soul. Such a loss!
I liked him as a pirate in the Black Swan, starring Tyrone Power
Yes! Such a good role for him!
You guys must be mind readers. I was going to suggest you do a segment on Laird !! Voila !! 😊
❤❤❤
Yay🎉🎉🎉🎉
Lard cregar😺
Vincent Price got the role.
