Aquí hay mucho tópicos,la siesta la duermen la gente mayor,los toros a la mayoría no le gustan nada sobre todo en el norte del país y donde soy yo,Galicia nada de nada y la comida hay mucha variedad depende de las regiones y los horarios de la comida claro que son diferentes la luz es distinta nada que ver con Noruega que a las 4pm es de noche,muchos topicos

En realidad, no dicen nada de dormir la siesta necesariamente. Llaman siesta al hecho de cerrar a medio día. Eso, donde yo vivo, es lo normal. Te vas de las zonas turísticas y cierran. A quién se le ocurre tener abierto en las horas más calurosas, cuando nadie va a entrar, y luego cerrar cuando la gente empieza a moverse? Lo mismo es decir que no lo hace nadie que decir que lo hace todo el mundo. Ni una cosa ni la otra
Bueno en Noruega ó en cualquier sitio que se acerque al círculo polar, tienen pocas horas de luz en invierno pero en verano al contrario, tienen muchas horas de luz, prácticamente no oscurece. Otra cosa es que el clima va a hacer que en verano llueva ó este nublado con más frecuencia.
ESPAÑA es uno de los pocos países que produce submarinos y satélites.
Líder mundial en producción de molinos para energía eólica.
Segundo país europeo productor de coches.
Líder europeo junto con Alemania en la producción de microscopios atómicas.
Segundo país con más patrimonio arquitectonico según la Unesco.
Y la huerta de Europa claramente.
Pero nos visitan unos 80 millones de turistas cada año que creen que vivimos de eso. Porque es lo único que ven.
Deberíamos plantearnos si merece la pena poner tan barata la estancia y que de verdad el que venga de deje un buen dinero. Como pasa en Noruega.
Y si dejan de venir en masa, mejor.

Olvidas aceite de aceitunas
Debería ponerse un impuesto importante al turismo, para ser mas selectivos y que solo llegase turismo de calidad. Con ese dinero se debería financiar el desarrollo de áreas de interés en los que España tienen potencial de tener proyección global y así reducir la dependencia del turismo, esa dependencia nos condena. Por esa dependencia, cuando Alemania se resfria España coge una pulmonía, porque si hay que cortar gastos, cortar en turismo es lo mas fácil.

I mean services is the biggest contributor to GDP in Spain representing 62% and 30% of that has to do with turism, one in five businesses are directly related to turism too. Almost 15% of real-state in Spain is owned by foreigners, from the remaining 85% another 10% is rented only for turism, throughout the year between 15 to 30% of the population are tourists, etc.
-Eating in "La Rambla" in Barcelona is.... a BIG NONONO! Most food is almost not edible (for us) and really expensive. One tip, if there's a menu in English/French, don't go there (if there's a big sign of Sangría and multiple pics of paella... the same). Ah, and always ask the price for the dishes 'recommended' without price... usually a scam everywhere.
-"bad service".. that guy is an American, where waiters depend on their service and kicking clients out once they've eaten.. it's not a problem here.. so waiters doesn't smile and serve you 'as your majesty deserves', it's a professional service, nothing more. And things are not speedy, because people takes their time to enjoy the meal and the people who you're eating with, and even once you've finished, you can stay there talking with your family/friends.. no problem.. (poor americans)
-"free tapas", in some parts of Spain.. don't expect them in Barcelona jeje
-Bull fighting... some regions (ie Catalonia) is forbidden, and in other Regions... if you wanna go to a Bull fighting... well... it's your choice...
-Spain is not as cold of Norway, obvious, but there are regions where in winter snows and most days they're under 0º.
-Siesta, for kids, old people and unenployed basically. It's true that in the past was common for workers due to people (farmers/..) woking up really early to work and in midday couldn't work because the sun. Nowadays the 3-4h break in big cities it's a headache for most workers due to not living near the working place, but for people who lives near the working place it's good to eat with the family and return to work later.
-Times.. with working stuff, people are on time. If you meet with 1 friend.. 5-10min tops, if there're more people, if possible someone arriving reeally late, but the group goes and the other will arrive... no one cares. (If you go to someone's home for a party/... no one expects you to arrive on time, probably the host could have a setback and need more time, so arriving a bit late is ok )

In Catalan Barcelona it’s pronounced similar to the English pronunciation so it’s ok. It came from the name Barcino, some historians say that came from the surname Barca from Anibal Barca or from Barca nona. It’s a very old name.
An American talking about the lack of Foreign language lol. Spain is an European country maybe there’re elders who don’t know English but instead they don’t French. In Spain the used to learn French. In Spain, in a lot of places we born bilingual. We know two languages. The majority of people of my age know 3 language (being English one of them).
This is not siesta time. It’s has nothing to do with siesta. Workers from little shops go dinner maybe go home and return to continue working. Sometimes the shop closes from 14h to 16-17. Because the shops close around 21h. I’m sorry but mañana is mañana we don’t use this here. We woke early in the morning a work for a lot of hours. We arrive late at night so people usually eat late. We also have one hour change to have the same time zone as in Germany this affects us.
Haha, I watch cold places in youtube in summer when it's warm. About siesta: we don't do siesta always. Most companies ( not only shops) are closed between 14:00 and 16:00 h so you can go home and eat lunch. I personally prefer not to stop and finish work at 5 o'clock.

yo dormía la siesta de pequeña pero una vez que eres adulta ya no cuadra en el día entre trabajo y tareas diarias. Envidio la suerte de los que pueden.
Este hombre habla sobre todo de Cataluña y me parece que de las demas comunidades autonomas tiene poca idea solo lo que ha oido o le han contado, eso creo, casi nadie duerme la siesta solo hay que relajarse un poco en las horas de más calor, lo de los toros son unos animales preciosos y creo y deseo que las corridas de toros desaparezcan aunque seguramente lo mas probable que con ellas se restinga la raza del toro bravo, es complicado, aquí se come de lujo en cualquier sitio es como todo en cualquier país hay que tener vista para saber si te estan dando basura o cosa buena, el paladar te lo dice. Lo de la impuntualidad va en cada persona no hay que generalizar .Un saludo.

Spain is very regional. You will hear people say "oh no that is not how Spain is, people don't do that in Spain they do blah blah blah" but in fact what they mean is that people in one particular region does do this or that. Stuff like siesta, food, street culture, language, relations to foreigners etc are all very regional. You can't extrapolate Spanish culture from Mallorca onto Navarra for instance.

Yes you will need your full winter gear in some parts of Spain. There is snow in Andalucia in May. In January-February it is often -25 to -35C in Aragon. Every couple of years there is some stupid tourist that freeze to death in Sierra Nevada who walks up the mountain in summer clothes.
Soy de Zaragoza y nunca hemos estado a -25 y menos a -35° grado y eso que aquí hace un frio de cojones pero esto es Zaragoza no el polo Norte😂😂 que exagerado.
Lo máximo que yo recuerdo es como mucho -10 grados y eso algún invierno muy raro.

The majority of us (spanish people) dislike bull's culture. To be honest I don't even know why that's still legal. We have some important people interested on it and it's used as a tourist atraction but apart from that it's not an important piece of our culture anymore. We have great artists, we are good at grafic arts, music, cooking, technologies, cience... but young people migrate outside for better oportunitties. I would love to see how my country would change if all that evolved people stayed and we didn't atract that many drunk tourists that we allow to destroy our peace and public places without consequences.
Nice reaction and sense of humor! It’s always interesting to know other pov of our own “normal”. Regarding the siesta and time nowadays it’s not really like that he recreates too much the stereotype. The break in the middle of the day it’s sometimes because we take our time to lunch and in most parts of Spain in the summer it’s not very wise to keep working with 38°C and +. Also it implies that we finish really late our work schedule, if you are lucky at 18h but it’s not unusual to start at 9am but finish at 19h (and in specific sectors like lawyers, etc. the good time of the year you get out at 21h) kids get out of school at 5pm for example. The bull fighting I think it’s just a matter of time that it will disappear, it’s rare for the minus 40 to appreciate it or support it. Concerning the weather compared to yours our winter could be your spring I guess but in central Spain you get sometimes -5/-10 in places where in the summer you get 40º. Sorry for the long comment. No restaurant gives the price per grams it's always per kilo. You can find in shops price per 100 gramos, but is not usual in Barcelona or restaurants.
The hours in the middle of the day are mostly for lunch, which is the biggest meal of the day. If possible the family will get together for it everyday. I would come from school, have lunch with my parents, help tidy and have a short 20 minutes nap, actually that is what we call siesta. On the other hand shops stay open till about 9pm whereas in Europe the close at 6. And I don't know what is a fully Norwegian winter gear but in my town can be -10 easily and colder than that so bring something more than a sweatshirt 😀

Most of us are probably aware of regional differences, but assume that it is warmer than here anyway and would only bring shorts and slippers.
Maybe you won't need full winter gear in spanish winter, but do not come to Sevilla or Córdoba in the summer...
LAURA L D. Is absolutely right. Here, from North of Spain, Galicia, "siesta" is like obsolete word or a southern Spain thing. Shops are opened from 10 to 14:00. They are closed at 14:00 because children, familias, workers have Lunch at 14:00 or 15:00 depending on schools exit or high schools exit. Nobody is going to go shopping at Lunch time so mainly the reason for closing is economical.

Hablando español puedes recorrer el mundo, siempre habrá un hispanohablante en cualquier lugar.

Irónicamente, pese a que España está en Europa, el español es un idioma muchísimo más valorado y usado en América que en Europa.
En Europa y la UE está muy infravalorado, por eso pienso que España ya debería salirse de la UE.

What he says about the "siesta" being real is not actually real. I mean, there are many people who do take a nap but normally it is half an hour or an hour and the reason may be due to the weather. But closing from 2 to 5 has nothing to do with siesta and in the rest of the world they call us lazy for sleeping 3 hours at noon when it is not true. If the establishments close at that time it is for several reasons, but the main ones are because in Spain we do not usually eat quickly, we tend to spend a good time at the table chatting, the famous "sobremesa" and they are not usually very active hours for business because there are usually no clients. And another reason, and the most important one to understand why we close 3 hours in the middle of the day, is that in Spain the days are longer and we do not have a strong economy so the most humble businesses can't afford to have so many workers, but then they open until 8 or even 10 pm, and that is not very common in other countries. We live with very different schedules, also because we have many hours of sun, in summer at 10pm there is still sunlight. Greetings from Barcelona (and the way you say it in English is well said because in Catalan the C is pronounced the same). :)
PS: Bullfighting is one of the things that embarrasses me most about Spain, I think the majority of citizens are against it, fortunately in Catalonia where I live they are prohibited.

Guys, visit Bask Country (North of Spain) and try to do a "siesta". Or not arrive on time for an appointment. The way of life is totally different in South of Spain or North of Spain. In my opinion one of the best things that this country has

The daily menú (you will see it as "Menú del día") is awesome... you can eat normall 2 courses, desert and/or coffe and drink starting in some places from 9€, though in the big city center normally will be more 12 to 15€ .. even so, it's really worth it and normally is not tourist stuff... so the quality is good.
Ammm siesta is not the lunch break of the midday, does he know this? Siesta is sleeping.
Shops just have different opening times in Spain. In the summer it's crazy hot in the early afternoon, and it's dangerous to work outdoors. This is why we have a split schedule. In the 14-17h fork most people in Spain are having lunch or commuting and business is slow anyway. The streets are empty. It makes sense for shops to close. From our perspective, it is crazy to find everything closed at 17h as it happens in many European cities. When do you get your shopping done if you work? And none of this is connected to the siesta. Siesta is just Spanish for nap. This idea that we stop working to sleep for two hours because we are lazy is plain xenophobic and I'm sick and tired of hearing different versions of it. Go to Andalusia in the summer and do some construction work from 14 to 17h, see how long you can take it.

I'm meeting friends tonight for dinner at 10 p.m. The usual time. Tapas are free in the region I'm from, the North. Most shops are closed between 2 and 5, but not for siesta, it's for lunch. Lunch is a family thing. I wish I could have a siesta every day, but that's something I can only enjoy when I'm on holiday. Btw,I hate bullfighting. The guy on the video forgot to mention a real Spanish tradition, 'sobremesa' which is common everywhere throuout Spain.There's no word in English for sobremesa. But roughly speaking is the time we sit at the table after a meal, just speaking and enjoying the company and the conversation. I enjoyed your reaction quite a lot.

Hello, in Catalonia most people under 60 years old speak English (at least to maintain a basic conversation), but although Spanish is a co-official language, our mother tongue is actually Catalan, a totally different language from Spanish.
Furthermore, in Spanish “mañana” means tomorrow (demà in Catalan), it would never ever mean later, that would be “despúes”, “later” or “más tarde”.
One more thing, in Catalonia, we never take a nap unless we are under 4 years old, or very rarely on vacation, on a calm and hot day at home.
Mas de la mitad de los catalanes tienen el español como lengua materna.
La gente que conozco que hace la siesta son niños o ancianos, o gente que tiene trabajos con turnos particulares.

I was laughing whatching your reaction and comments about the cold in Spain...Haha its normal you are from Norway, how he can explaine how it is cold to the kingdom of cold from where you come from!! ;)....Im not agree with everything he explaines in that video but always its curious to know what people from other countries think about us.

Nice video. But it is a huge mistake, at 9:40 says that every restaurant HAS TO BE a cheap lunch menu of 2 plates, and this is completely wrong. I work in a restaurant and we just work by cart. No daily menus. Lots of restaurants have daily menus plus cart. Usually the daily menus uses low quality products.
if you like "tapas" you have to come to basque country ( pintxos, and arent free but delicious) or to Granada, free and delicious too
To try a really good paella, you have to go to Valencia, which is where it comes from
Saying BarCelona while speaking English sounds wrong in my opinion. We usually pronounce it with an S when we speak English. 👍🏼
En cuántos idiomas pueden hablar en EEUU? Y en Reino Unido? Por qué en España tenemos que hablar en inglés? Aunque en España hay más gente políglota que en los países anglosajones se crítica eso de España... Es acojonante....

Yo pienso que en realidad lo del turno partido (almenos en tiendas y restaurantes) es porque así se cubre todo el horario con menos personal. Y he trabajado muchos años en sitios así donde solo hay 1 empleado o 2 con suerte
