I live in Oregon and personally I feel a lot better knowing the type of environment that I would be in, if god forbid something did happen to me and I had to do some prison time . I like to hear that its not all just stabbings and drug and rape in prison that their is some positivity and rehabilitation that happens for these people .love your content keep it rolling man.

Yo death first off I just wanna say that you are a real inspiration to us, and I'm glad you're not just one of those GLORIFYING GANGSTERS THAT DOESNT TRY TO MAKE CHANGE. you've took your experiences and turned them into positivity and that's what the youth needs, and even some of the old heads that just keep doing the same old thing and think you'll get different results. I'd love to do an interview with you on my experience in the Connecticut DOC institutions that I've done my time at. Hit me up and lemme know what you think. Much love from CONNECTICUT God BLESS you and keep paving the way. You deserve nothing but good things to you and your family...

Honestly, at first I was thinking this was the most humdrum interview yet, but in reality this guy was keeping it real and just seems fortunate to have had a pretty smooth stint. I'm not sure how often that really happens, but that's all any of us could hope for if we get locked up. This is actually encouraging to know that not ALL prisons are a daily fight for your life and that not all CO's are there to F you over.

Ha! I think this guy quoted me directly. As a former C/O there, my common saying was, "I don't get too worked up unless there is fighting, fu*king, or dying." Obviously I was required to enforce the other basic rules, but approaching someone with, "Hey, can you please not do...." or, "Hey man, yard has ended, can you please wrap up your phone call and head in?" was rarely met with hostility. Respect was a two way street. I got what I needed out of people 95% of the time simply by talking to them how I wanted them to talk to me. We're all people. People have a general expectation of how they should be spoken to. When I trained new C/O's, I frequently told them that if you talk to these guys like they are garbage, they will generally respond like garbage. If you talk to them like adults, they will generally respond like adults. It's all in how you talk to people. You attract more bees with honey than vinegar. Please and thank you goes a long way with most people.

Rifht haha there is Portland and Eugene and Salem are the biggest city but those are small compared to other states. My dad was a CO in Oregon at Oregon State correctional institution. Oregon State penitentry. Mill Creek. He worked 30 years and he told me some crazy stories bout prison but he said it's not that crazy in Oregon. But yeah I'm from oregon and moving to Florida is a trip. Florida is so much more crazy. The cities are so much more populated here. In Oregon there's alot of Mexicans. Id say Mexicans and white are the majority. Then not to many blacks and Asians. And yes that tar herion out there is strong man. That and meth is the big drugs.

You know I've done a lot of time in Florida jails but never been to the actual prison but something I think I should point out is that I definitely heard lots of horror stories about jit camp however lots of people that I met who went to the regular adult prisons and work camps stories are pretty similar to this guys. Just goes to show you that it's not just different from state to state but different from prison to prison and block to block and when you were locked up. U might have just experienced good luck and when you were there Things we're calmer.

Oregon is pretty bad now. Turning into Cali. I moved up there for a year in 2001 to grants pass was really nice. And was like death said everything was sweet, no gangs, nothing like that. 5 years later visited and was not the same. You got everybody and their mom pretending to be gangster, doing tweek all kinds of craziness. Went up again another 5 years later and was way more ghetto. And grants pass was a real small nice town. A lot of people from Cali moved up there.

My husband is doing time in OSP (Oregon State Penitentiary). He is interstate from east coast. Yes, everyone starts out at Coffee Creek to get classified, however EOCI is lower level. When you get to OSP, it is nothing like that. A lot of segregation, riots, fights. You can't do movements like play cards in chow hall, I've never heard of that. They see you outside your cell when its not your yard or work time, and you go to seg. Mine is a Legal Coordinator so he is a good guy but he's been in Seg for long periods of time just for minor things. Example is he was on the phone with me and a fight broke out, so all 80 guys on the yard went to the hole. 180 days. That's a regular thing. He stays off the yard mainly because fights over phones turn deadly fast. It is better than some states but its still the broken US prison system. Depends where you are at.
I am originally from Canada and I have been working in prison systems in both countries for years.
