This movie always brings the touch of a soldier's feelings for one another. Especially that soldier that will cut off his cast in order to rescue his friends.
In real life, he did cut off his cast with a pair of shears. All the cooks and support staff piled onto vehicles too and went out. Most of the vehicles were unarmored, and some of the humvees had no roof or doors. ua-cam.com/video/gFoefxX3rb8/v-deo.html Here is the Jeff Struecker talking about the moment in the movie.
People judge this movie for being “American propaganda” or whatver. They seem to believe they are glamorizing war. But no. There’s a difference between glamorizing war. And showing heroism
It takes courage going into battle. And even more courage to go RIGHT BACK into it after you’re safe and know exactly the hell that awaits you as you’re contemplating your choices. Powerful scene.

I suppose it was meant to do that. I never once in my time in the military knew anyone that used an inhaler. Especially in a unit like Ranger Regiment.
@@Potnoodle1978 That surprises me. I joined the Army about 8 months before Somolia and any condition that necessitated an inhaler was a bar to enlistment. If you developed a condition that required one you would be chaptered out as far as I remember.

The soldier with the cast is man I want on my team. An amazing scene,,but men of such nobility wait all their lives for the moment when they can rise to just such an occasion to help their brothers in such times.
Having read Captain Struecker' book, Thomas was in reality much older and just had a child. He still went to Jeff for comfort and told him his reservations but went in again anyway.
This is how we, as a collected society, overcome the destructive plague that is known as Nihilism. That is, we must be willing to consistently summon up the courage in discovering meaning in our everyday task and responsibilities under the bedrock of our ultimate aspirational ideal: to continuously try (the attempt and effort gathered by our will alone) to improve the human condition both for ourselves and future generations whom have yet to arrive. Great scene, indeed. Cheers!

0:41 just watched an interview this scene is based of with the real major struecker, they both were the only ones with wife and kids from their ranger squad and they both knew if they would go out there again, they would 100% die.
According to the real Sgt. Struecker, this really happened in real life. Guy was too scared to go back out, but then as he was going he saw in his rearview mirror, the guy jumped into the last humvee and went.

I'm curious why they couldn't just order him to go out. Don't units get deployed as a whole? Would refusing to go out with your unit be considered AWOL, disobedience, or what?
in real life his ass would've got reamed and he would have been ordered to go out. refusing to would result in an njp or a court martial. if he is in fact combat ineffective they would figure it out under fire.
Stuecker had those thoughts but didn´t show it to his men. Stuecker also talked that shoked ranger to come along (he was aware that every other ranger observed him when he was making that talk)
Struecker said everyone was feeling that way but Thomas was the only one to speak up which is probably what caused Struecker to react this way and in turn, convince himself and everyone to go back out.
Honest question, can you actually deny to go back into a war zone? Like if you just came back and you're traumatized. Can you say you don't want to go back out there?
You would be heavily ostracized and you would most likely be thrown out of the military but if you would be unable to function they would most likely not take you along.
