LHT Performance B Series Intake Manifold Modifications for Supercharger
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 лип 2020
- I recently got my Honda B Series Jackson Racing Supercharger intake manifold back from LHT Performance. They added a heat exchanger to help keep intake temperatures down. A cooler intake charge means more power, more consistently. Personally I feel this is an excellent upgrade to any supercharged system.
Feel free to share your experiences with superchargers and LHT Performance in the comments.
I look forward to your responses.

That manifold is like a work of art.
LHT and ETCG. Beginnings of a beautiful relationship.
Yea don't K-swap that car , your going the right route and keeping it period correct 👌 LHT performance has really good knowledge.
It shows. That's a really nicely made piece.
I’m not a Honda fan , but I like the mods that Eric is doing to the Type R
What brand vehicle do you lean towards? I'm might need to buy something in the next year or so & I am kinda Honda'd out. I'm thinking either Toyota or Nissan? Maybe a truck. Either way I like to play & modify a little.
Excited to see this on the car! LHT is the blueprint of what every tuning shop should be. Great people, great products, and high standards all around!
LHT is awesome they have a really good youtube channel. Supercharged B series is the way to go!
You can hear the excitement in your voice and the passion you possess in this project is awesome. Thanks for letting us go along for the ride.
I love this car, and this build. Honestly, I never thought I'd get the chance. Thanks for the comment.
I have a Type R of the Civic Variety... but I love the ITR. If they were not so expensive I'd get one. I do miss the Honda VTEC engines of the 90's and early 2000's. I had a 99 prelude with the H series that when you hit VTEC you knew it. To me those original VTEC engines kicked in much harder than the IVTEC ones. Not to mention you have the one of the holy grails of Japanese cars. Keep the B series alive!
Can't wait to see the build and get to see that smile the first time you hit redline!
That intake looks reaaaally nice. Shows when a company knows what they're doing.
Its good to see you're staying with the B engine. Gives me the warm fuzzies for the car scene in my high school years.
Hell yeah!! Love the @lhtperformance guys they do awesome work!
Your Type R looks great. This upgrade will be a nice project to watch.
Making my own heat exchanger for mine, big fan bud!
The LHT kit will help for sure! The next step is sorting out your hosed roots unit. The RDX injectors are an easy and safe update. Looking forward to this.
I had my K24 supercharged with the CT Engineering kit. Was a well designed kit and gave me a bit extra with my daily. Wanted to keep it safe so I stuck with a 3.6" pulley but the car went years without a single issue. Haven't ever supercharged a B series but they are still some of the best out there. So simple yet make decent power, fairly bullet proof and parts a still around for em.
Nice, super excited to see the end product.
Thank you so much for the cake.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Bir.... wait.... is it really your birthday or do you just like cake?
High performance Eric!
That manifold defenitly a work of art
Love the video’s Eric. Long live the B series.
Great video and update Eric
this car is going to be awesome !
Its the day after my birthday! This was uploaded 1 day ago! Came here for the birthday wish! Thanks
Happy Birthday!
@@ETCG1 Thanks!
Looking to do the same for my GSR. Waiting for LHT to get caught up and schedule me for intercooler and install of the whole package!
The cake is a lie! Good work sir. May the mighty B series live on. VTech yo!
Ice bath heat exchanger?
Always and been a fan of Lht performance. Seems like many did
Yay it was my birthday on the 20th thank you
LHT🔥🔥 great vid ERIC
You always get the very best quality with an Eric The Car Guy video. Always a great day when he uploads. I've been a fan for years; he's still the best on UA-cam - no contest. Long live ETCG!
Thank you very much!
@@ETCG1 You're most welcome as always - I meant every word.
A very nicely made part.
Ha, it's my birthday, thanks Eric!
Also, I'm looking forward to the Type R videos!
Happy Birthday!
@@ETCG1 you're awesome, thanks man. Keep up your great work!
Thank you Eric I always enjoy your videos I am from South Africa
Hello again South Africa!
That fact of the matter is the cars that that had B engines were worlds better than the modern crappy models with K engines. Glad you are sticking with a B. Golden age of Honda was b and d. Forgot swaps !
This is awesome! I thought LHT Performance stopped doing heat exchangers on B-series years ago for some reason.
i finally get a birthday cake after all these years of watching LOL
LOL at that peice of tape with "Honda Bond" written on it!
i have the same jackson racing super Charger on my gsr motor & i had belt issues so i use the 1320 Performance pulleys so the the belt wont slide off.
Eric them are some nice upgrade's you got going on and agree to wait on installing them . Man I tell ya you make me miss my 1991 accord that was swapped to the F22a with cam / head and upgrade pistons . She wasn't a power house but them up grades with a good tune on poa-p51 ECU pushing 302hp. Miss that car 🚗 😭.
Your not doing 300hp on a h22 with only head and piston lol
@@legros731 didn't say shit about a h22 . A F22a comes stock at 160 HP to crank . A 142 HP gain is possible if tuned right .
@@UncleTriangle didn't say shit about whp either and no the F22a is the jdm version of the a6 with a different ECU .
That intake manifold looks sexy, just like the car.
I had a Jackson supercharger on my integra type R swapped Integra and the power was amazing. The draw back was wheel spin on take offs and because it FWD the tires would heat up and lose traction.
Some R888's or similar should be able to handle the power.
Def going the right route with that car.never supercharged but i got a turbo charged b series .def not as reliable at the moment haha
I wish i could find a complete JRSC kit for my GSR. That would really be all the more power I would want for what I use my car for. Can't wait to see the R completed with this!
They are hard to find but still around. Good luck.
I need to do that mod to my Jackson charger for my 01 crv.
Can’t go wrong with LHT products
Love my supercharger. It’s not a b series its a j series but the instant power is amazing.
i think this is the earliest ive watched these videos
Wicked!
I inquired for this service hope you guys have some time for my manifold. Needs a little repair.
It's finally my birthday on a monday!
Happy Birthday!
Nice intake. Those tubes seem a little large and obstructive? Its good to see the project coming along. It would be great if we didn't have to wait too long to see it finished.
Pfi has a video with an integra with jackson supercharger and lht stuff earlier this year might answer some questions
It would be cool if you got a tune from LHT as well
Pick up a new OEM oil cooler O ring and some generic coolant lines. You're required to rotate the OEM oil cooler like 90 degrees or so to clear the blower.
Just ditch it it more a oil heater than a oil cooler
LHT for the win!!!!!
Nice! Video 😉
🔥🔥🔥
The K series is by far the better engine but the B series is still great, who cares what anyone else thinks, build the car and engine for you Eric, this is your dream car.
Not true the fastest honda run b serie and h serie
@@legros731 We're not talking about the car, we're talking about the engine, and actually the B-Series is my favourite but I've owned a B16A, B18C, H22A and K20A and i can tell you from experience the K series is superior, there is a reason a K series swap is so popular...
Hi Eric,
Great Video :) Which kind of radiator do you use for the cooling? BR,Michael
You should talk with brent from pfi speed
Glad youre keeping the the type r b series if you wanna try k series def put it in the gsr or the ls teggys type r should stay b series with the rarity of them
My GSR is a low mileage 1 owner car. Going to keep it pretty much stock. Find me another stock GSR. They're almost as hard to find as Type R's. That said, there are plenty of Civics out there to K swap. Perhaps I'll pick one up sometime. Thanks for the comment.
@@ETCG1 more projects is always a good idea lmao 💪😂 good idea keep the teggys b series
Not a big Honda guy, but that intake is sexy
Well that's cool
Make sure to get a comman injector. They can be hard to get correct in the tune, hondata has some presets for the common ones.
I've owned 6 vehicles in my 25 years of driving, never an Acura though.
Ford, Toyota, Dodge, Chevy, Ford, Dodge (truck)
Slap that bad boy in Bro!!!!!!! I wanna see your Integra supercharged!
It'll be a min. I'm still waiting to get the supercharger back from the High Speed Lab. They also aren't answering calls.
For sure. I'm gonna be installing my Jackson racing kit on my Ford focus Zx3 this week.
Hopefully they get back to your soon cause I wanna see what difference the new heat exchanger will make
I'd wanna polish the rest of the manifold and supercharger.
Why are prople K-swapping a usdm type R? Just grab a LS model and k-swap that. Usdm type Rs are so rare now
Yes save the type R
Cool air is way more dense which works better for combustion alot better then hot air
Can you mount a different blower then the JRSC?
The 05-07 cobalt ss uses the same style of intercooling and if you go to zzperformance.com they have the bosh intercooler pump and a heat exchanger you can probably use for this application
Funny you mention that, an Eaton M62 roots supercharger has an air to liquid intercooler that goes on his manifold. This is very similar setup to the Ecotec LSJ motor in the Cobalt SS and Ion Redline.
Being the owner of a B-series EM1 my self, I'm Team B all the way now. I fell in love with the B18C1 because of my friends 95' GSR.
In reality however- the K-series engines are really just a much more modern design and make more power easily. Remember that the Type R started with B18 and still made all that power per liter after all.
Eric there will be lots off room between firewall and intake you be surprised how much
I'm not sure if you already got the hondata ECU but look into Neptune RTP demon v2. I've tuned with both and honestly the Neptune RTP demon v2 has more options including some cool ones like real ignition cut at full throttle shift, rpms can be held while shifting gears at the given input rpm you want. Real antilag launch control, can be set in many ways to trigger it, speed, rpm, percentage of throttle position etc. Another cool one is the antitheft feature that allows you to set a code with gas pedal and brake pedal to set a sequence before you turn on the car. For example, 3 pumps gas 2 pumps brake and if you don't meet that sequence correctly the ECU will not allow the car to turn on. The list goes on but it's turning into a long message haha. I'm very familiar with hondata and Neptune, have used both and prefer Neptune. If you'd like to talk more about it let me know and I can answer any question you might have about either ECU tunning system. I currently still have the netune RTP demon v2 with Bluetooth module and coil on plug settup on my car. Made 213whp on a built 1.8 91 octane, could make more power more aggressive cams and better intake and fuel but I wanted it to be reliable and street able, so far no complains. Love it, k series power in a 🐝
Thanks for the info. I'll look into it.
What do you mean, sick of looking at you? With that glorious beard? Never.
What is the power goal with the supercharger?
*POWER POWER POWER*
If it was just a GSR I'd say K swap, but since it's a real type-r supercharging makes sense. That said, a mild turbo'd K will trounce it.
It's only gonna be super cool if you put an ice tank in the system
Just send the ITR to LHT no questions hands down they'll solve all your problems! 😎.
@LHTPerformance
That is a thing of beauty, very nicely modified. So once all the supporting mods and charger is installed, are you going to get it tuned professionally on a dino? If you are have you considered a collaboration with another you-tuber, Brent @ PFI Speed has a channel and has been around the Honda world for a long time, that's a video I would really be interested in seeing, guess it depends on how far from Colorado you are, I have no idea I'm the other side of the Atlantic
I do plan to get a tune, I just don't know where yet. I'm in OH BTW.
@@ETCG1 Thanks for the reply, I'm looking forward to this series, I had a Type R back in 1999, I regret selling that car. I just had a look on the map to see where OH is and it looks a long way to Colorado but then I live in the UK and to us a 300 mile drive is a long way!
Another pointer- my Jaguar XKR runs the intercooler pump 100% of the time which is really stupid. In reality, the air drawn in under vacuum into the manifold is cooler than ambient air, so the fin tubes and coolant are already primed for boost. Circulating water full time actually makes the “intercooler” a “preheater” when not under boost.
I bought a pressure switch that opens around 0.5 - 1psi to kick the pump on. It saves the pump from useless running. They’re not cheap nor fun to replace. They also draw significant current- talk about a parasitic loss!
An important point you didn’t mention is raising the air temp under boost pressure increases the threat of pinging drastically. Intercoolers not only increase performance, they preserve engines.
I'm an engineer and always stay dirty!
Thanks for that info! I'll look into that. As for the dangers of boosting engines, I've actually covered that in previous videos about my turbo Fairmont, and also had some compression issues with my truck. I've learned some hard lessons there. Thanks for your comment.
are there cooling fins on the coolant tubes inside the intake manifold? because it looks like it's tiny like screw threads or something
Yes, those 'threads' you're referring to are the cooling fins.
Hey Eric can i still be able to get one of these from LHT without sending he blower in?
You don't send the blower in, just the intake.
Shame you don’t live in the NYC area 😫
Next Monday is my birthday.....i like chocolate.
Can’t K swap a type R if the motor is fine. Leave the B18C5 in there l.
Yes keep the type R its hand ported and built by hand dont dont a generic crv engine swap
With 440cc injectors I'll assume you're going to run 93 pump gas. You're going to be fighting knock with the stock compression ratio. I'd recommend you install a 0.040" Cometic headgasket to lower compression a touch while keeping the quench area tight. You can install head studs if you want to but they aren't necessary under 300whp in my opinion. I'll also reccomend you to use NGK 2668 (BKR8EIX) plugs and close their gap down to 0.028". You will need a 1:1 boost referenced fuel pressure regulator as well, along with a 255lph fuel pump.
The cooler and a good tune should negate the need for decreasing compression ratio. This info comes directly from LHT who I'm consulting with on the installation. They have done extensive testing and are very knowledgeable about supercharging a B series. Thanks for your comment.
LHT Performance would not send you a custom piece whose inlet/outlet pointed at the wrong angle.
The 1st few weeks after the SC is working, you'll want more power.
Look into a killer chiller u can make one yourself also
Impressive! Sucks LHT didn't give you the option for AN fittings on the coolang lines.
They used to when I had mine done.
They said they would switch them over if I wanted. They used to do AN fittings but customers kept screwing up the threads so they switched.
Eric are you planning on upgrading the fuel pump wiring? Independent relay and power?
@@excaliburO2 I don't see a need for that and it was never mentioned by anyone that I'm consulting with, including LHT.
2:00 The name's Bond. Honda Bond 🤣
I'd sell the kit and go with Kraftwerks it's far superior. For the money you spent on just the intake manifold you could have purchased and built a high compression 2.0 crv block , keep your type r block as back up, and have a way more reliable car. With more aggressive cams and a built block 230whp is easily achievable on pump gas. That's the really cool thing about tuning Honda's is the options we have, I'm excited to see where this goes.
I wanted a JRS on the B series from the start. I'm modeling this car after one I used to take care of a few years back. ua-cam.com/video/UHKztH0so_M/v-deo.html
Did they weld in the hose barbs? That doesn't leave you many options. 🤨
They said they would switch them over if I wanted.
nice 👍
The coolant tubes inside the intake look like they would interfere with the air flow.
Well, to properly cool the air, it has to be "in the way" and introduce a small pressure-drop. I am actually concerned that the tubes dont cover a larger area than what they do but I guess it is good enough as is.
To some degree, but it's negligible. The cooling effects will far outweigh any restrictions it might cause. Thanks for the comment.
Any intercooler will have some amount of airflow impedance. But the benefits of an intercooler outweigh that. Like the saying goes, you don't get something for nothing.
@@michaelblacktree Thanks for clearing that up. Gotta ask questions to learn.
No AN fittings.... Sounds like a good reason to get a TIG and learn how to use it.
I have a TIG, I just need gas. ua-cam.com/video/tAJUszNNudc/v-deo.html
An fittings are a waste when you are just dealing with low temp non critical coolant. They are crazy over priced.
Hose clamps ftw.
An only really needed for high pressure like power steering or maybe oil.
But..... folks, regular fittings get the job done just the same.
ChrisFix style of video. No face reveal.
And no adderal.
Not enough threadlocker/common hand tools though.
I K swapped my EK and will never go back to B series. The K being backwards makes way more sense, theres more room and everything is easy to get to.
On an EK sure, but on a limited production ITR with a perfectly good B series I don't think it's appropriate. ua-cam.com/video/jPAnCnDnKEE/v-deo.html
Ks are so overrated now everyone does it cool once upon a time now a dime a dozen
@@Th3Fly1ngCow newer tech , gota keep up
Depends on chassis. Of course latest greatest is usually better but also heavier and balance in these cars ED, EK etc chassis is important to some.
I had to replace a k series because the owner got a small coolant leak and tried to drive 10 miles home.
Warped the head blew the head gasket.
Eric please consider some type of catch can so those cooler fins won't lose efficiency within time due to carbon/sludge buildup. What makes me think is if the catch can will need some sort of check valve as it will see vacuum and boost at some times
ua-cam.com/video/UHKztH0so_M/v-deo.html
So it's basically a water-based intercooler built into the throttle body.
Intake manifold. Most throttle bodies already have coolant passages in them to prevent icing.
@@ETCG1 Indeed, my bad. I am not always spot on with my English words, since this isn't my native language. Most interestingly, the German word for "intercooler" is "Ladeluftkühler", which literally translates into "charge air cooler". Although "intercooler" has a great sound to it. Like, something amazing :-)
@@Seegalgalguntijak No worries. Perhaps I was just being too particular. Thanks for your comments and German lesson.
