    I appreciate the effort, but the execution is cringeworthy. Also, you devalue your results from the firehose when you dont immediately show the jacket being removed. Whats the point of doing a "clinical test" if you just cut away and say "Yep, it worked, trust us".

      @@MrVolodusIt seems like this video was made for children... The worst part was after a few minutes of these shenanigans, I realized this was created by GORE-Tex.
      Just incase someone from the firm reads this... Anyone watching a GTX video on UA-cam is a geek, we want to see scientists or engineers do tests, give a presentation; impress us like a professor would at a university.

    I dont know what everyones talking about when they say that their gore tex jacket is not working. You have either not taken care of it, product defect, or you have been scammed. My fathers gore tex jacket is 22 years old and it still works to this day. Not sure what people are on about...

    Ummm the water may have been at 150 psi when it was in the hose but the instant it left the nozzle it was below atmospheric pressure. (Bernoulli’s principle) they lost a lot of credibility by not using correct terminology. But I still like my Gore Tex jacket!

    I spent a weeks wages in 1992 to buy a berghous jacket made from gore-tex, 25 years later it just sits in the closet because after 10 years it leaked like a sieve. Marketing is great when products match expectations, sadly my jacket fell well short of advertising promises. Do your homework before handing over a huge amount of cash.

    Lovetobeach247, would love you to explain how you make these pores all the same size, and 700 times bigger than "a" vapor molecule. A volley ball is more or less only 30 times a marble, certainly not 700 times.If you imagine the volleyball made from water (like a raindrop...) and than you rub and than you push it on the fence, it breaks in smaller parts, not being a drop (ball) anymore. You still rub it through the fence as you easily break up the drop in smaller drops. Maybe we should not rub the Goretex-fabric when it is raining.because than the water will go inside the fabric and get stuck in the pores? And when stuck in the pores, it likely will not breathe anymore?

  • @GORETEXBrand

    The yellow + grey jacket? It's from Berghaus

  • @love2beach247
    @love2beach247 11 років тому +2

    A water molecule is much larger than a vapor molecule. You could compare a water molecule to a volleyball trying to get through a chain link fence. You can compare your body vapor to a marble trying to get through the fence.The fabric that is used in GORE-TEX products has over 9 billion pores per square inch. The pores are 700 times larger than a vapor molecule allow it to escape. The membrane is also 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, which means water droplets can’t pass through.

      Yes, in theory does sound very nice. BUT! BUT! BUT! in reality that would work, maybe, if you would have some space between your body and the goretex garment. Which, in most cases, and in areas we most sweat (underarms, on the back or on the belly) the garment is in close contact with the skin. So the vapours do not pass through the fabric, but get to be droplets of sweat and you get to be...yes, WET!

    it really is a 20 year old jacket. An (nowadays) old man has used it on various expeditions already. GORE-TEX® products are not only built to last, they're easy to take care of too. Routine care and maintenance will ensure the highest performance from them and extend their useful lifespan.

    • @macoveitinel732
      @macoveitinel732 6 років тому +1

      Could you ellaborate on "routine care and maintenance", please?
      Some say that a goretex garment does not need reproofing. But you still need special detergent. Spending like 200euros on a jacket and then another about 3euros everytime you wash it (without reproofing!) does not seem such a "easy way to take care of".

    So Gore-Tex is showing up on some of Merrell's new running shoes now. Running shoes that are barefoot and market themselves as thoroughly breathable with plenty of airflow for your feet thanks to their mesh whatever...
    That shoe claims to be both breathable enough to feel the air on your feet when you run and 100% waterproof up to the collar. How is water 100% not allowed in but it retains this airflow claim?

      When you perspirate the molecules are smaller than water molecules which are larger thus they cannot enter but sweat can leave.

    Gore-Tex when it first came out was awesome stuff. It still is but the truth of the matter is there are now better less expensive alternatives on the market today. GoreTex just has the market cornered because its been around so long and everyone knows the name.

    i doubt this is waterproof, but its best water resistance for sure. if there is hole it will soak in matter of time its submerged in water. wish there is submerge test for gore-tex for how long it can submerge in water until it get soaked because i do not want to buy this "waterproof" boots for works need to stay in water for long time and blame its soaked. its too fancy to be true.

      Hi Xiaowei, every original GORE-TEX product comes with our Guaranteed to Keep You Dry promise because we can guarantee its waterproofness. The GORE-TEX membrane, which is incorporated into the fabric of our products, has pores that are ca. 20,000x smaller than a drop of water, which is why no water can pass through, even after standing in a lake for several hours for example. Additionally, its pores are 700x bigger than a water vapor molecule, which makes our products highly breathable as well. Goretex is supposed to have *zero* breathability to keep the heat inside, keep the moisture outside (your sweat) and prevent water from outside coming in. Dry and warm = Gore Tex. Dry and Cool = raincoats.

    • @geraldhenrickson7472
      @geraldhenrickson7472 8 років тому +1

      Wait...I think you are saying its designed to NOT breathe? Surely I misunderstand...that would make it a $20 slicker from Walmart. I must have had a long day and am misunderstanding your comment...as you are paying for breathability...and paying dearly.

    • @canmetan670
      @canmetan670 8 років тому +1

      G Henrickson There is nothing besides gore tex that keep moisture out and warm air in. Think of gore tex skiing pants, you want the sweat to evaporate while you ski but still keep warm in the freezing winter. So it's the opposite of wool.
      If you can find such a thing for $20 from Walmart, tell me please :)
