Amazing, Mac, thanks for sharing ! So many Japanese brands now....and so many experiences including distillery visits (& tasting their new make too) which helps you now put their first years' releases in perspective, which must be fascinating for you....One thing I hate though, is these thimble like plastic glasses which I guess ruin part of the experience imho (nosing to start with), but I guess it is the price to pay for big events tastings....If you come to Whisky Live Paris though, you will have a proper tasting glass to follow you in the stands (sure entry price is double) & then you have "next level" rooms they call it "VIP' rooms pass (higher entry price), and finally a special section called "Collectors' where it is a pay per dram & security guards some years to make sure you're allowed to get in....Kanpaï ! (& looking forward to see which bottles you'll pick to review in your channel this year ! )
I could (should?) have brought my own Glencairn and strap to the event, but yes, you are right - why not bundle it into the price as a souvenir and save on a lot of plastic too?!? I would love to come to Whisky Live Paris one year. I will add it to the bucket list!

I would be so jealous right now... if we hadn't had the first Croydon Whisky Festival this year! (Much smaller scale, of course, but my first 'in person event' for over 2 years.) I just wish more of the Japanese whiskies could make it over here without immediately going on auction sites for many times the retail price.

I go to whisky festival in Nagoya every year. Unfortunately, it's been cancelled for a few years now because of COVID-19. I will go there again next year! It's a good place to find good whiskies!
I’ve been super busy the last couple days and finally gotten around to watching this! Excellent video as always Mac!! I don’t think I’d have even made it half way through the sampling before needing to find somewhere to nap 😂 It’s always funny to see when master blenders/managers etc get asked about what to expect for next year - you know they’re always going to be VERY secretive. I would love to see is Suntory bring out another age statement whisky (aside from the usual Yama/Hakushu 12). One can dream, right? I gotta say the Kanosuke whiskies always look delicious! Yet to try one though. Do they have colouring added? Fingers crossed for the borders opening next year - I have no doubt I’m going to book a tour with you! Kanpai 🥃
The caginess was strong with this one! It was interesting hearing their responses though - that gave me some insight into their thinking. No added colour at Kanosuke. They are doing things the right way. Looking forward to touring with you already! Kanpai!

Mac, a word of caution about Dictador. They're known to use fake age statements and sweeten their rum. The 12 year is more of a "12 year". Most rum from Spanish speaking countries tend to use the oldest age of the rum as the age statement.

You looked like you had a lot of fun, Mac! For JPY3,000 I would totally try that Brora! Probably the only time I'll ever get to taste it. Come to think of it, the price for a whole bottle wasn't so bad, cheaper by about JPY100,000 compared to the prices here in the Philippines. Here's to hoping the newer distilleries will drive the prices down of Japanese whisky. Kanpai!
