    When I'm doing a complicated full coverage pattern, I highlight what I intend to do in yellow, then go back over them with blue after stitching them. That way anything green is done!

    Great tips, love the idea of the magnetic board to hold the pattern. Thanks for sharing.

    Wonderful tips for keeping track of where I am on the pattern, but I have just as much trouble finding myself on the project. I find myself counting over to the spot to stitch 3, 4 times just to make sure. Grids don’t help especially after the project is pretty far along. I joke with my friends that once I started counted cross stitching, it turns out I don’t know how to count. 😉

      Ahah, I know what you mean Beth - especially large full coverage is a struggle for me too. When I end a thread and look away, it's a struggle to find the spot again! 😁
      Happy stitching 🌸

      You can try to have a sewing pin with the decorative top to mark your spot. Take it out when you are going to start stitching again. It will stick to your magnet or you can just put it at the top of your piece.

    Thank you for the tip Marie. I am also Marie. We have beautiful names don't we? Tee Hee. I do the same "Count twice, stitch once" method as well and yes it's spot on!

    I've been watching several of your videos. I've cross stitched for years, and yet, I'm still learning! A couple of questions from watching the videos: 1. What is the method you have used to make a window to see your pattern? 2. What is "frogging"? Just love your videos -- your voice is easy to listen to and just fast enough for me. It's helpful to see what you're talking about, and you do an excellent job with this, too.

      Frogging is a term in knitting/crochet too... "rip it" sounds similar to ribbit 🐸 so when you undo a stitching mistake you rip it/frog it.

    Thanks so much again, Marie. Love the tip for putting a mark with a removable ink at a grid cross! I do the other checks that you recommend but it only takes one lapse of concentration to make a mistake 😅(Love your hair too, if that's allowed as a comment 😉) 💚

    Love the friction pen idea. I've never gridded before but this seems to be a good easy fix. I actually bought a set of light coloured fine tipped highlighters on the weekend!! Thanks for the app tips ... I've never used an app yet but have recently bought some big patterns which might need an app
    I might have to try using the app in my iPad with my apple pencil
    Thanks for this video!

    Hi, I'm new to cross stitch and I love the idea of the magnetic board with the ruler and tabs. I looked for it on Amazon but I can't find any with a magnetic ruler (Or a magnetic ruler on it's own), can you remember what yours was described as??? ty.

    Thank you so much, Marie. I love the tip for putting a mark with a removable ink pen instead of gridding the entire project! I do the first three tips, as well. I love the app information! I use a laptop when stitching. What program do you recommend using for a laptop that I can mark as I go?

    • @StitchesAndDiamonds
      @StitchesAndDiamonds 2 роки тому

      Hi Janice, I'm so glad you found the tip useful! 😊 I'm afraid I don't really know of any good app for a laptop.. laptop apps are usually for designing, not marking.. I saw someone marking their progress in Acrobat PDF reader using the highlighter function but not sure if that wouldn't take too much time.
      Sorry I couldn't help more..
      Happy stitching 🌸

    I just subscribed to your channel! Great tips! I love the content of your channel! Do you know if there is a protective spray I can use on cross stitch fabric? I am making cannister covers and want to protect them from anything that could come in contact with the fabric. Thank you! Kathy

    Hi Marie, thanks for the informative video. What app do you use on iPad for your charts? You stated it was native to iPad? I’d like to try it out. Thanks so much, Lea

    • @StitchesAndDiamonds
      @StitchesAndDiamonds 2 роки тому

      Hi Lea, thank you so much for watching 😊 I'm mostly using just the default PDF iPad app with an Apple pencil - any PDF will automatically open in it. I then choose the option to mark it up with my apple pencil and use it as I would a highlighter on paper pattern 😊
      If you don't have an Apple Pencil, you can draw with your finger as well.
      Hope this helps - Happy stitching 🌸

      It’s a great app, although it does have limitations (like keeping pages separate unlike Pattern Keeper) 😊 I hope you enjoy working with it ☺️

  • @flowerlass

    I use an erasable yellow pencil instead of a highlighter. I can erase on the pattern if I do make a mistake, and there is no danger of getting highlighter ink on my fabric.

    Hi Marie, thanks for your tips and lovely video. Do you know why Caterpillar cross stitch patterns are not compatible with Pattern Keeper? Their pdf is an image. Very disappointing because I love using Pattern Keeper for all of my projects. Looking forward to your next video. Michelle

    • @StitchesAndDiamonds
      @StitchesAndDiamonds 2 роки тому

      Hi Michelle, I know that Sally has requested it with the Pattern Keeper developer but I guess we're on a waiting list together with many other designers interested in being compatible with PK. Sorry I don't have better news!

    Little warning for the friction pens - yes, they will dissappear with heat (which means don't leave your project in the sun!).
    But if the project gets cold, the pen will reappear. This might not be an issue for you, but it is good to know.

    Use a colored pencil, not a highlighter...that way you don't run the risk of having the highligther "blow up" in your project bag and ruining everything!

  • @virpir2453

    Frixion pen markings come back. You shouldn't use it at least if the place you use it in isn't covered with stitches.

    Personal opinion... I would NEVER highlight my patterns. I may want to use it again someday..
