The negativity is oddly endearing though. Maybe because Levy is a tough love kind of guy.
That's true, every other chess commentator sounds like they are pretending it is interesting and faking excitement, while Levy is actually hyped. His energy makes it way better.
There are others that do it too, although Levy is definitely among this first new wave of high energy chess commentating. 🎉

Something interesting about the engine eval: when a position, to a human, looks enticing and advantageous, the computer says "meh". But when a position looks locked, and progress is ambiguous, the eval can swing pretty heavy. When magnus moved his king over, I believe there was a way forward for white. If I were a super GM, knowing magnus and fabi to be the final bosses, I would start analyzing eval swings and try to identify the reasons. Then one can maybe start playing by instinct in those situations. And honestly, not be afraid to lose. If Magnus actively needs a win, he punishes indecisive play.
So Lei Tingjie offered a draw while tied for first, and proceeded to get 3rd😭😭

You make some great chess content but sometimes you kill the suspense right from the get. Like you always suggest "keep the tension!" It's so much more fun when you keep us guessing until the end.

I love the recaps, thanks for all the effort that goes in. I also think screw the positive and negative comments focus on the people you know and value. I would also say the thing that defines you is not chess. GM doesn't change your worth so pursue it knowing that it's super stressful and hard but also that your no less to those you love and there opinions matter most. Not the unknown majority.

Here in Norway it is a traditoion to watch chess inbetween christmas and New year I can remember me and my parents were watcing and they forgot to feed my little brother dinner because we were so focused on watching chess and Magnus (he won).
