Thank you ❤️ this site has a map with a key that can tell you which zone you're in. For example, if you're in Los Angeles, you'd be in zone 10B 😊 garden.org/nga/zipzone/2012/
Absolutely love these flowers. They are usually so reasonably priced in the store for large bunches. The mass of single color arrangements (my preferred way with these flowers) in a vase is just something else. I have a yellow flowered bunch and a pink flowered bunch currently and they make me smile when I look at them. They really do last a long time. I tend to snip off the stamen tips so the pollen dust and the little seed heads (?) don't end up falling off later and making a mess. Keeps them tidier and, anecdotally, keeps the blooms longer since there is no energy spent by the flowers to get the pollen out and seeds to drop. You are lucky to be able to grow these beauties!! xx
If they already bloomed, the leaves turn brown which you need to pluck off. It’s a normal thing that happens, just make sure you’re giving it enough water
Hi there, The wife and I have recently fallen love with these plants. I just planted some out today. I like the idea of adding some mulch as I imagine that will make it easier for the tubers to form in the loose soil. Here in Adelaide (Australia) we have clay soils, so we add lots of organic matter and gypsum to help loosen the soil particles up. Our temperatures range from 2deg in winter to 45 degrees Celsius in summer. Wondering what temperatures you get where you are?
Lovely 😊 I’d imagine you’d have to! Very smart to add organic matter plus the layer of mulch. We are in sunny California, so no harsh weather here… we are blessed to have temps in the 70’s (Fahrenheit) even in the Fall :)
Hello and thanks for the great video. What do yo do with the leftover tuber/fleshy bits? Can you plant these to grow more plants? Do you have a video on this? Thanks
Hi! How long after flowering did they look like that? After Alstroemeria is done blooming, the leaves start wilting/turn yellow and then brown. This is normal, and once the leaves are brown you pluck them off :) did your leaves turn brown or have bite marks?
It could be snails.. if there is an iridescent slime trail you have your answer. I’m not sure which bug is eating your plants, but try keeping the leaves dry and not damp, as that invites them. Make sure your plants have proper drainage, and gently pluck off any snails when you see them. I hope this helps! Wish I could help more but without seeing it’s tough
I live in zone 7 and believe we had a pretty mild winter. I had them for another year. Then the following winter I lost them to Frost. So do as she suggested possibly put in smaller containers and bring them indoors. If I ever find them again, that's my plan. Good luck!
Thank u for your video! I am confused though, I live in zone 6, MI. I bought three astrimerias from a local nursery, and they were labeled perennial. Can u clarify? Thank u!
Hi Pat! Alstroemerias are perennials in general. If you live in a zone that doesn’t get frost you should be good to keep them outside. If however you get frost, I would bring them inside in the winter
We just bought 2 5 gallon Alstromerias. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful! we are zone 10A in southern California, I'm going to try to find a place that has morning sun / afternoon shade and plant them today. I can't wait to propogate them. Any idea how often they should be watered and how many galloons of water to give at a time, until they are established? and how long to get established? how do know you've given a plant an "inch" of water? thanks so much, love the videos! We also just planted a blood leaf.
That’s great! I’m glad it helped. Depending on how much sun they’re getting, you would base your water consumption on that. For example, more sun~ more water in the mornings. I would just eye ball it- it doesn’t have to be exact. Just water them every few days until they get established (you don’t need to water them too much). You’ll know they’re established when they start spreading/ after a month or so they should be good!
Wow its so beautiful flower. Imma big fans of Lily and this Peruvian Lily has different leaves. If I want to plant it in the pot, should I place it full sun or half shade because I live on equator country?
Hello, I just found your site looking for this exact plant that I fell in Love with a few years ago but it didn't come up the next year. I was devastated! I'm going to continue to search for this particular one of the Alstroemeria. The Peruvian Lilly. My question to you is if I bring it in the house in the winter is there any way to get rid of the little bugs that seem to be crawling in the pot, soil, and around the plane base? Possibly anything in the plant itself? Second, do you know anywhere in the USA (I live in New Mexico) where I can purchase or order this plant? Thank you so much! First time here and will be a lifetime follower!
That makes me so happy! Personally I haven’t had to bring my plants in during the winter (no frost where I live), so I’ll have to look into the bug problem you’re having. I would suggest looking up something natural online (DIY non chemical). A lot of local nurseries carry alstroemeria (starting in the spring). Have you had any luck there?
Hi, I'm from Poland/Europe zone 6-7 At extreme we have in the summer up to +35°C (could be for a few days) average 20-25°C and in the winter extreme is -30°C (for a few days) avarage between +5°C and -5°C. My alstromeria is in the pot, for a winter will be hidden in a garage with a window, temperature inside will be around 8°C. Is my princess going to survive it? Should I remove/pluck out all foliage for the winter and leave roots in the soil and water it from time to time? I was removing foliage during summer vegetataion to encurage growth of roots and new stemps and it was working. What should I do for the winter? Regards!
Hello! Wow love that you’re watching all the way from Poland :) you’re doing great by bringing it inside in the winter- you’re on the right track. Definitely keep watering it while it’s inside and plant it back in the ground when the last frost is over. Keep me updated. Hope that was helpful, but you seem to know what you’re doing.
Was so looking forward to seeing the purple one ❤. Maybe a future video with an arrangement of all the colors you have ? Currently I have 4 colors that create a gorgeous arrangement (except purple 😢)
Aren’t they so beautiful?? 4 colors! Let’s swap 😆 i will for sure put another video up, on how to grow them from seed and I will show you all of the colors I have :) I just purchased a red one! Thanks for watching
I have an Astromeria in a large pot. Some tubers have come to the surface. Does that mean it is too crowded? If I cut off a tuber will it sprout? I live in California
Hello fellow Californian :) If you can, dig it up, and wiggle it to separate it. I haven’t had success when I cut a tuber, they can be sensitive like that. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the great info! I am in 10b too :) it’s not necessary to pull them out is it to protect them from cold is it? Also, what size container if I don’t put them In the ground (minimum container size)!

Left it outside for a few years now, during winter even with frost, and it doesnt die.. Every year it's stronger
That’s amazing! I’m so happy to hear that :)
Thank you so much. All the great and beatuful flowers. Thank you Peruvian produceres.
Happy gardening! Thanks for watching :)
Hi , Super video 👍
Do these Peruvian lilly plants grow in tropical climates varying 20°c to 30°c ?
Any ideas 💡
Yes they do! They love that type of climate

Hello and thanks for the great video. What do yo do with the leftover tuber/fleshy bits? Can you plant these to grow more plants? Do you have a video on this? Thanks
Hi Debra! I usually just plant them if they’re not cut up, and hope for the best:)
Thanks so much for the reply. I am new to gardening since retirement. I will plant and cross my fingers.
Happy to hear that. I hope you enjoy 😉
Is possIble to propagate it from a cutting flower? Thank you in advance for your answer.
Hi! Unfortunately no. With these flowers, you have to get them by the roots, or from seed. Good luck ❤️
hi Great video. In UK it's the start of growing season, can I still propagate my alstroemeria now without it sulking for a year ?
You can always give it a try… no guarantees. Lmk how it goes!! Wish I could help more on this, thanks for watching 😊
Great info, can i grow them in wood sawdust and compost mixture...Will that work for them?
I’ve never tried a wood sawdust mixture.. so can’t say. If you end up using it please lmk how it works out!
Grew alstroemeria this year for first time after flowering the leaves looked as they were eaten away any advice please
Hi! How long after flowering did they look like that? After Alstroemeria is done blooming, the leaves start wilting/turn yellow and then brown. This is normal, and once the leaves are brown you pluck them off :) did your leaves turn brown or have bite marks?
@BirdofParadise they just looked eaten, not wilted

I'm in zone 7. this is the first time growing this plant. i love it. will need guidance in the fall. Help!
You can do it!

May I know when is the best time to transplate , I am in Vancouver , they are now too crowd!
Transplant them in the fall and bring them in before the first frost
Can you take cuttings from these or is the dig up and split the best option?
Cuttings aren’t possible with Peruvian lily.. it’s either seeds or uprooting. Happy gardening :)
When is a good time to propagate seeds? What should the looks?
I really need to do a video on this. It’s long needed. I’m going to work on sending one out.. short and sweet ❣️
Is it ok if I pull out a few to propagate?
yes of course

what mix of soil do you recommend, compos+perlite+cactus soil? I'm planning to plant in a container.
Yes that’s fine. Any potting soil will do and adding a bit of compost is great!
Wow its so beautiful flower. Imma big fans of Lily and this Peruvian Lily has different leaves. If I want to plant it in the pot, should I place it full sun or half shade because I live on equator country?
Although it likes full sun, it’s best to put it in a spot that gets morning sun and afternoon shade. :) happy gardening!
@@BirdofParadise Alright understand. Thank you so much for your answer. Happy gardening for you too ^^
what fertilizer do you use for your lilys?
I will add compost to them or just some miracle grow :)
