    Very nice! I really like how you took your time to explain. It's obvious that you could have went a lot faster to show off your knowledge/talent (as a lot of UA-cam experts do), but that defeats the purpose of doing a tutorial. I look forward to seeing more from you. God bless...

    I visited your channel after watching a different Illustrator tutorial of yours. Saw this on the front page and watched the entire thing though I'm not sure I even have a use for it. But what a fabulous home page video - and that's coming from someone who has more than one channel under different accounts. Interesting content and excellent style. I subbed and will definitely keep your channel in mind for my future Illustrator tutorial needs. Huge thumbs up.

      @@CaryHawkins Question: At 7:30, you somehow highlight half the cup and delete it. Mine deletes the entire object every time. How are you getting it to only delete the lower half? I’ve watched over and over and can’t figure out what you’re doing differently than I am. Then again, mine didn’t make straight lines to start. It was all those curves I had to mess with. Does it have something to do with that? I couldn’t figure out how to make plain straight lines without that annoying curve thing coming up though. I couldn’t easily just lower the path either. Things always look so easy on the tutorials. Then you try it and nothing works right. LoL.Thanks for any help you can give.

    • @CaryHawkins
      @CaryHawkins  3 роки тому +1

      I just use the direct selection tool to delete. You might be using the selection tool instead? For straight lines, hold shift.

      @@CaryHawkins Thanks so much for your response. Unfortunately, Illustrator got upset with me for having it open along with Premiere, Photoshop, another video application, three Excel documents, two Word documents, and three web browsers all at once with multiple video & creative projects going. It said I didn't have enough RAM. Go figure. I'm sure you're as shocked as I am.
      But I may try this from scratch sometime again just for fun, especially since it's so quick and I just found it so neat. I might still be too green with Illustrator though. Nonetheless, still a very cool tutorial regardless.

    • @CaryHawkins
      @CaryHawkins  5 років тому

      @@moonbeam0124 gradients and 3D objects don't mix well in Illustrator. You could make the 3D object, expand it, then paste a copy of the parts you want to the front, add a gradient that, and then play around with transparency settings. Multiply or hard light would probably be good places to start. You might try swapping which object is in front too. It could look like this, ordered front to back: gradient layer set to multiply, original 3D layer, OR original 3D layer set to multiply, gradient layer. Play with the percentage of transparency to get it to look how you want. Let me know if that gets you the desired effect.

What I do is I use the lasso tool and carefully follow the contours of the car body while depressing the mouse button and slowly moving it around the forms and then sometimes having to come up to the top of the selection to keep the selection consistent until I've encircled the whole body... maybe, you don't see what I described anyway to the point! The 3D programs have a way to rotate your part or assembly... What have you found? Also, I thought it would be great if Adobe would develop a full 3D program (For the Apple)...

      What do you mean by rounded path?

    • @hanifahadinda568
      @hanifahadinda568 4 роки тому +1

      the way you rounded the side of the lid sir, by using direct selection tool, there's a point next to anchor point that you can drag to make it round. In my illustrator there's no point next to anchor point.
      is it because the different version of software? Im using illustrator ver. 17

    • @CaryHawkins
      @CaryHawkins  4 роки тому

      Sometimes that rounding cursor doesn't appear. You might try messing with your object. If there are actually too many points, maybe right next to each other, then you might not be able to see it. Try recreating the shape and see if it appears. You might also try removing any curve between points. Under the pen tool area of your toolbar, there is an upside down looking V. Use that tool to straighten the curve of the point you want to round. Hopefully something in here does the trick.

    I'm not able to add the "Cup wrap" ... I tried the Symbol, map art steps... Is it possible that it's sending the Art INSIDE the object and thats why I cant see it?

    • @CaryHawkins
      @CaryHawkins  4 роки тому

      Duck tape would be easy enough. A cow in Illustrator is a little beyond its capability. You need a true 3D program for stuff like that. Simple shapes and easy mockups are best for Illustrator.

    • @CaryHawkins

      It should still be selectable. Adding mapping should not affect this. You might see if you have locked the object or the layer it is in.

      @@CaryHawkins I don't know what I did, many child objects got created in that 3d object. I created a new 3D object and as you said it is selectable.

      Cary Hawkins hi
      I followed your video to draw the 3D coffee mug and every step
      I couldn’t figure out how you split the kit and cup.

    • @CaryHawkins
      @CaryHawkins  6 років тому +1

      Karin Yiu I watched it again, and I seem to cover every part of that section thoroughly. At what point are you confused? Once I make the full coffee cup/lid shape, I make a copy of it. On one copy, I delete the section that is the cup part. On the other copy, I delete the lid section. Then I bring the lid forward - arrange > bring to front. Let me know if you're still hung up.
